Bottle Posted September 21, 2010 Share Posted September 21, 2010 Squier Precision Special should tick all the boxes, and is considerably under 400 quid (less than 200 quid new at the mo) I've had mine for nearly a year - good all-round bass, and can do a wide range of tones, especially played over the bridge Jazz pup. Dood Posted September 21, 2010 Share Posted September 21, 2010 Forgive me if I am incorrect - but I believe the 'A' profile neck on a Fender is a slim one? - I have a 70's CIJ American Vintage (non-export) P-Bass and the neck on it is nearly as slim as my'89 Power Jazz Bass Special which has a '62 Jazz neck profile. I believe my P bass has such an 'A' style neck. Would I be correct in assuming that Fenders around the late 60's and early 70's were made with 'A' profiles more than say 'C's? Cheers![/quote] Ya know, I typed all that and totally missed the obvious! ha! - You might be able to pick up a Fender Jazz Bass Special or the active option, Power Jazz Bass Special off ebay for not a lot of money. BRILLIANT basses and I expect lots of pics of 'em on this thread. As used by Duff McKagan, the fellow from Simple Minds (err sorry - was it Derek Forbes??) and Mike Inez in Ozzy Ozbourne's 'No More Tears' video. iconic Posted September 22, 2010 Share Posted September 22, 2010 (edited) Just to muddy the waters....Yamaha BB414/424's have quite sporty necks and these passive versions have super hot pups....and there is a bonus J screwed on the end to stop you getting bored;) I simply love mine and a real keeper but you really need to play one to see why owners like them so much OTPJ has a 424 for sale I think? Ive found to get a passive P with a nice jazz neck you have to pay a bit more. My suggestion to the OP is if he has a P he likes just buy a Jazz neck. Much cheaper than a new bass. I had one (tho was the BB1100s with actives) in the 80s, in the days before I even considered backup basses, and must have done at least 500 plus gigs with it, no problems at all. Yes, that would certainly ring true for my Jazz Bass Special - all intensive purposes a P bass with a Jazz neck - and were out in the mid to late 80's. [/quote] Im sure ive seen one or two around here for about £400 but you have to be quick as they dont hang around. Its a shame you cant afford the Duck Dunn.
