1.
All more than welcome in my eyes, bonus points for wearing the spandex silvers too!
The silver spandex has been put away for good at the request of my family. Was fun while it lasted though.
2. I've never played it right But then in my audiences I would be surprised if anyone knew.
3. I can bring, Gallien Krueger Fusion 550 Head GK Glx 410 and BLX210 cabs Ric 4003 Ric Chris Squire LTD edition Toby Pro 4 Mazetti 8 string The twin neck in my avatar? May persuade a friend to let me bring one of his Wal's Also as it's low frequency I might bring my Moog Taurus 3 foot pedals if no one objects.
4.
Nope. Poncey stereo stuff generally uses 3A fuses... in fact I can't think of anything in the normal household 'AV' setup that actually would need a 13A fuse...
My poncey power amplifiers in my poncey stereo draw 11amps on switch on. My poncey stereo can produce higher sound pressure levels than my bass rig. A Gallien Krueger fusion 550 into a 4x10 and a 2x10 linked to an Ashdown 1000w bass magnifier power amp a 4x12 and 1x15. Measured at 3metres. I don't subscribe to expensive cables and Russ Andrews kit is over priced and he is a self opinionated twit. (I work in the Hi Fi industry and have met him on various occasions). However I have found benefits in buying "decent" cables for both my bass rig and my Hi Fi. Russ Andrews has also been warned by the ASA not to make unmeasurable claims for the ability of his mains cables. I realise that some Hi Fi junkies will spend anything in their search for the Holy Grail in audio reproduction, but it's their money to do with as they wish if they believe it's what they want. Personally I tend to advise against this type of purchase and suggest they spend their money on a load more music to try out. Rant over Sorry.
5.
Wicked!! I just love Twin Necks! What is it? Cheers.
It's one I made earlier. The shape is a copy of the Mouradian CS74. I got carried away when designing it and it grew a bit. Lower neck fretted with Rickenbacker pickups. Upper fretless with Bartolini active pickups.
6. Might be worth checking out the Ashdown Jay Lomenzo Hyper-drive. It preserves the low end clean and lets you put all the drive and dirt into the higher frequencies.
7.
Chris Squire, one of the most revered bassists in rock music history. He has very little knowledge of music theory and as far as I know doesn't read music notation. My question is, would his bass lines have been any more interesting, thrilling, suitable for the songs, or more accomplished, if he had been able to read music and had a good grasp of music theory? This is prompted by the age old rebuttal "Yes, but look how good you COULD have been, if you had learned to ... ".
Why would being able to read notation make a difference when you are creating the basslines. It matters not to me that Chris may or may not read or have knowledge of musical theory. Where do you get your information from? I have had great pleasure for many years listening to YES music, recorded and live. In particular Chris's playing. Even before I took up playing. He may have been my inspiration. Theory and musical knowledge are all very well but feeling has a lot to do with it as well. I'll stop now and get off my soapbox. Long live YES.
8.
afaik there's about 5 dealers in the UK. Soundslive in Newcastle. Electro Music in Doncaster GAK in Brighton and a couple of smallish shops in Wales. There might be more but they're the ones I know of.
The shops in Wales may be listed as GK dealers but they either have no stock or only limited stock. I live in Wales but buy direct from Polar audio the importers.
9.
I think there's a groundswell of feeling that you should use the bottom 4 strings from a 5 string set - all you need to do is file the nut a touch and give it a setup, and you'll be away. I use a 4 string strung BEAD on occasion and it works a bloody treat.
I have done this just a few days ago as an experiment. Totally love it. Did it on an old Westone. Now thinking which of my main basses to do it on.
10.
the guy in the London area with the raspberry red one! Are you on here, if so I must meet up with you and play your bass as I want one!!! If anyone else owns one, I would be very interested in meeting up to try yours! Muchos appreciated! Nicko xxx
If I find him I'll offer more than anyone to buy it.
11. Fortunately I have control over the mix. When we use a key board player I Knock out the the keys lower frequencies. This seems to work for all the others. Key player doesn't know. Strangely enough I can't get the guitarist to play loud enough!!!!! Maybe bass players listen to the overall sound because we are unselfish and want the song to speak for itself?
12. If it's any help I did my first on the fly so to speak. I started off with the idea of building my own (copy) Mouradian but as you can see from this pic I got a bit carried away. I suggest you get an off the shelf neck or s/h and experiment from there.

14. There's a shop on Ebay called "pennfab" I have bought a few cab bits from him. Might be worth a look. http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/pennfab/
15.
My twins
Great to see two together. Almost as bad as me having two sets of Moog Taurus bass pedals. My CS is shown earlier in the thread. I wonder how many there are on basschat?
16. Going back to the OP you may notice in the video that Rick is shown at the start playing a huge Cathedral organ and is not in the studio. If I remember correctly the sound from the organ was sent down the Swiss telephone system to the studio. The organ was in Vevey and it was done in real time. There's a thread about it on the yesfans form. http://www.yesfans.com/showthread.php?t=1767
17. Hi just as Moog claimed the Taurus 3's copy of the original T1 sound engine is indistinguishable from the original. The Taurus 3 offers a huge amount more than the 1. 52 presets available 48 of which are user programmable. Midi control of external devices and the reverse. Arpeggiator. Still learning how to use them properly. The T1's will undergo a refurbishment with a new contact board which has the old(iffy) contacts replaced with switches, and a general tidy up. I may eventually sell them? but it would take a BIG offer to persaude me to part with them
18. Could blame Wetherspoons a bit on this one.
19. Nice post. I haven't seen this one before. I am a complete Yes fan. Play a couple of Rics. Here's a pic of my Cs ltd edition Ric and my latest aquisition a set of the new Taurus 3 bass pedals to compliment my Taurus 1's.
20. Here's mine. Almost finished it just a few tweaks and it's up and running.
21. My latest purchase is a set of the new Moog Taurus 3 bass pedals. Awesome piece of kit and they still retain the Taurus sound from the original Taurus 1 pedals.
22. When I want to be "heard" I use GK Fusion 550 into GK 2x10 and 4x10 linked to an Ashdown 1000w bass magnifier into a trace 1x15 and 4x10. This gives plenty of headroom and the ability to swamp the gtrs if they over do it.
23. If you used paypal to pay for the bass and have NOT yet left feedback, then paypal won't release the money to him until you do. Look to paypal to help you out. Even though they are owned/part of ebay.
