1.
It's Saturday night, I'm bored and saw this thread then I realised how many names you could have for a Yes cover band, not taking the p*ss but yeah, probably a pointless post, my apology's.
Cheers Wayne
2.
If I had a Yes tribute band I'd call it one of the following names: Yeah Why Not? Maybe NO!!!! HMMM OK Affirmative Sure Yep Ah Ha (you might have problems with this one) Could do Alright Indeed
Can't tell if you're taking the p!ss or not but I just put it up for those that would be interested. Can't see the point in your reply!
3. Yours is no disgrace Yes Songs from the Wood Tull Both poles apart but sublime. And thinking of the above post on keyboards how about Army of Me Bjork.
4. Went to see Fragile, a Yes tribute band last night at the Globe in Cardiff. Saw them a few years ago at the Point with Steve Howe. I thought they were good then but last night they simply blew me away. They had a new bass player last night who was just amazing, Chris Hook. He nailed the Squire sound with a Ric 4001. A 3 hour set for £12 has get to be great value. All the Yes classics and some great segues from old to newer tracks. I know that Yes aren't everyone's taste but Fragile are really are worth checking out. Even if just for Chris Hooks bass playing. Currently they have dates all over the UK. Check their site for details. http://www.yestribute.com/ They even came out for a beer after the gig and were quite happy chatting away to anyone in the audience. Quite refreshing I think. This is what Steve Howe thinks of them. "Playing with you guys reminds me of an early, earthy, more British Yes" - STEVE HOWE ".....Fragile, I must say, pretty much knocked my socks off.....they had it down. The guys were great, Steve and all the lads were really good" - STEVE HOWE on Planet Rock Radio
5. I just plant my thumb into the space right next to the pick up (cover removed)
6.
Wow. One of my bands is cover band. Do you use your effects to achieve a sound as close as possible to the original bass sound or is it to change the sound of your basses regardless of song?
Mostly I use effects to try and sound like the song. Sometimes just because I feel like it. Here's the pedals. Before the TC chorus was put in. I also use these to great EFFECT
7.
I hope no wimmin see this. They're just gonna nark on about all that multitasking nonsense....
If women are so good at multitasking how come a headache stops them doing anything else?
8. I give Rotosound top marks for customer service. I had a problem getting a few sets from a local store. Waited over two weeks for them to fail to get them. Contacted Roto direct who confirmed that they had never received the order. To make up for it they not only sent me my order direct but doubled the quantities. That worked out at 5 sets free.
9. OK here goes. I have quite a few pedals that I use. TC electronics stereo chorus, Boss chorus, Flanger. EQ, Limiter /enhancer, Jay Lomenzo Hyperdrive, Delay,Fuzz. These are all connected through a Carl Martin combinator. Which gives me 18 combinations of the above with one press of a switch. Mostly I will use a touch of the TC chorus but it's great to be able to use a variety of sounds easily. Play covers of a variety of genres from 60's to now. Basses Ric's. T Bird. Tobias. Explorer. Rig GK Fusion 550 head, 210 and 410 cabs.
10. I once went into a music shop that I noticed while stuck in traffic. Found a Tokai T Bird and asked to try it. After a bit of faffing about young sales guy plugged it in and eventually let me play it, telling me to be gentle with it!. I liked it enough to do the deal there and then. Went to pay while youngster was supposed to be packing it. He carried on slapping and popping, keeping me waiting. I pointed out that he told me to be gentle and that now it was mine he should show more respect. he replied that this is what basses are for. Me gets angry. Calls for manger and tells him I no longer want the bass because of kids attitude. After heated discussion I keep bass but get a significant reduction on the price/refunded. Tokai T Bird for £129 in the end but I won't go there again. That's crap retail for you.
11. For what it's worth IMHO you could look for a second hand Gallien Krueger combo. RB400 MK111 m(1X15) RB 700 (2X10) etc. If you need to move more air add an extension cab. I used the RB400 1X15 for a few years and was fine till I got the gas for bigger GK kit.
12. I tried a few Gibson birds and didn't like any of them. Popped into a music shop on my travels and saw two Tokai Birds on was awful the other was great, so I bought it.
13. Quite a few years ago but it makes me feel better OK this is me now
14. If you can hunt down a wiring diagram I might be able to persuade my audio engineer to make one for you. He's done this for me on a few occasions. Won't be as cheap as Maplins though.
15.
Not sure I'd go that far but I'd certainly bathe in the golden glow that surely radiates from her bottom end.
One in Kate Bush is worth two in the hand.
16.
If you're going down (no pun intended) the '70s 'porn' route, then why not consider ridiculously oversized fake moustaches and / or over-the-top chest wigs (or 'merkins' as they are known in the trade)? There - I've used the word 'Merkin' in context. someone owes me £10.
In Hollywood film-making, merkins are used in films where they are worn by actors and actresses to prevent inadvertent exposure of the genitalia during nude or semi-nude scenes. If a merkin was not worn, it would be necessary to restrict the shot to exclude the genital area; with the merkin in place brief flashes of the crotch can be used if necessary. The presence of the merkin protects the actor from inadvertently performing 'full-frontal' nudity

18. Guitarist friend of mine asked me quite a while ago if I wanted to go to a Fairport Convention gig. Without thinking I said yeah OK. Got to the gig and thought to myself "I've heard about them for years but haven't got a clue about the songs they play. (My ignorance) I knew they were folk / rock. After a couple of songs I found myself really enjoying it. What really grabbed me was that they were all superb musicians and were obviously enjoying playing live. Even though they have been doing it for forty years. Dave Pegg's bass was quite big in the mix which was fine by me. Why am I posting this? Basically to remind us all that playing music should be a fun and pleasurable experience and to be open minded to all genre's. If any one can get to see this tour I recommend you make the effort to go.
19. Came across this photo I took many years ago. JPJ collecting the triple from Mansons. Why was I there? I used to build custom flight cases and had just delivered one for the triple.
20.
If you can find it, Jonas Hellborg's 'Elegant Punk'.
+1 Very hard to find. Maybe only on vinyl. I have a copy on disc that a friend did a transfer from his album. PM me if you like and if I can find it will do you a copy.
21. Does anyone on BC have one of these. If so would you be prepared to trace the outline of the body for me as I would like to make my own for my next project. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
22. Here's my two Rics on stage ready to rock. And a little family I made earlier.
23. I struggled to get on with 5 so I restrung a bass B E A D to get the low end.
24. Rock Retreat Cardiff Firstly this is not in competition with the planned Cardiff Bass Bash. Rock Retreat is a recurring event organised at my Church by me and a few musician friends every couple of months. There have been two so far. The second was a lot more successful than the first because word got around. Anyway I’m putting this up here to invite any young bass players in the Cardiff area along to the next one which is likely to be March or April. The venue is Park End Church, Rhydapenau Crossroads, Roath, Cardiff. It is open to Bass players, guitarists, drummers and keyboards from the ages of 11 to 16 ish. We set up various rooms with Guitar amps, bass amps and drum kits. The day runs from 2pm to 6pm. The main idea of the day is to let youngsters play somewhat louder than they can at home and get to try out some decent kit As well as getting together with others of their own age and jamming in a band situation rather than being stuck in the bedroom or garage on their own. They are invited to bring their own basses, guitars etc. The kit we supply is variously . Gallien Kreuger, Marshall, Engl, Fender, Vox amps. Rickenbacker, Toby Pro, Tokai T Bird, Epi Eplorer. Gibson Lp 1960, SG Epi twin neck amongst others. I don’t know much about the drum kits but they are all decent. We have had plenty of drummers and guitarists but hardly any bass players so if you fancy coming to the next one PM me with your email and when the next date is set I can let you know about it. There is no charge for the day and there are free refreshments. All adults that help out are CRB checked. If you like the idea you could think of setting up something similar in your own area? Here's the poster for RT 2
