1. I don't think I've been to a gig without some form of mistake,my favourite being Siouxsie and the Banshee's Steve Severin falling flat on his arse halfway through a number and the Damned's drummer Rat Scabies ballsing up so badly he had a strop and kicked his drumkit over. I think the difference between the famous people and us mortals making mistakes is they usually deal with them more professionally. Usually....
2.
I was just about to start this very thread myself! Im after a short scale leftie - theres four bassists in our band and I want a short scale with ultra thin strings for a more toppy end. Do Fender do a left handed jaguar does anyone know? I cant seem to find one. I notice Timmo that your link doesn't post to the UK, any UK stockists that you lot know of?
4 bassists? Envy.Problem with your plan is that short scales tend to have less treble.
3. Just curious, but why more than 2 octaves for a bass synth? I use a Basstation rack with a midi keyboard, if that's any help.
4. Mighty Mite necks are indeed very nice high end aftermarket products and approved by Fender.
5. As long as it stays in tune and sounds ok I don't care how much it costs.I've gigged with a (comparitively) cheap Squier plenty of times recently
6. Another vote for Peavey. Indestructable and value for money.
7. I also have a black one and I've seen several dark red ones.
8. The 78 in my profile pic started life as Olympic White, although it's a bit darker now.
9.
I'm currently on the process of re-refinishing my S8 P in Capri Orange. mmmmmmmmm
Putting a vinyl roof on it?
10. I've got a Harley Benton 6 string Traveller guitar ( tiny scale) and there's nothing wrong with the build quality. That Ibanez looks nice though.
11. I already have one.I don't like it.
12. For the price of those Harley Benton ones, you can't really go wrong though.
13. Indeed, there aren't many short scale left handed basses around, I've got a 1962 Burns Sonic, can't say I've seen many of those for sale recently though...
14. In terms of "made it" as in world tours and number 1 hit singles, guitarist in several of my early bands was a chap by the name of Ian Dench, later of EMF and now songwriter to the likes of Beyonce.
15. I realised I was crap years ago. Hasn't stopped me though.
16. I 've got one of the really old black painted GP7 4 x 10 combos. Yes, it's loud.Bloody heavy though.
17. Supported 2 Sick Monkeys a wile a go. Awesomeness personified.
18. Agreed, there's nothing intrinsically wrong with the bridge, I only upgraded the bridge on mine to one with grooves for the grub screws to limit sideways motion as I do tend to bash the crap out of the strings. The pickups are the only real area where cost cutting has an effect, and Fender Originals would get my vote.I put EMG Select passives on mine largely for the aesthetics...
19. I would be highly dubious of ANY speaker that has a claimed SPL of 118db.
20. I actually use my Squier (which has been upgraded a bit, new pickups and electrics) in preference to my Fenders.
21.
Thanks guys - I've had a PM from the seller, and he's actually OK with posting it. Trouble is - and no offence intended towards the guy - I'm not comfortable sending a sizeable sum of money to somebody with no posting history and no feedback. I'm sure that, given time, something could be worked out, but I'm going abroad this weekend and won't have time to chase around before I go. So I'm going to reluctantly forget about this for now. If it's still available when I get back, then I'll try to sort something out. Just unfortunate timing, but there you go cheers,
Use Paypal and go for the "funds deducted from your account after the item has been delivered" option.
22.
What about a Milli Vanilli tribute act, or Boney M? Would it be wrong to mime to songs that were mimed by the original acts that were supposed to have performed them , but in fact didn't? You would in fact be being more authentic by performing to a backing track created by someone else.
You are my new Hero.
23. I usually have a back up bass. Playing left handed means it's unlikely I'll be able to use someone else's should I need to scrounge a spare instrument at short notice. And I've broken quite few strings (although not since I stopped using Rotosounds...) and the one time it was on stage - no back up bass.
