1. I'd rather play toilets and have people tell me they think my music is great than play other people's music for money, personally. I play bass ( and other instruments) as a means of creating my own music. It may not be the most original music ( there's only so many notes and it's fair to say they've all been used before) but it's mine.
2. Surely good music or bad music all comes down to personal preference?
3.
There are only 2 types of music. Good music and bad music. Ditto bands.
Not necessarily,a band don't have to be musically competent to be exciting. I doubt any of Crass (for example) would describe themselves as musos, however they were one of the most exciting bands I've ever seen. Crass tribute band, anyone................?
4. I suspect I may have answered my own question there....Chances are I wouldn't want to see the original band, let alone a tribute..
5.
Tribute bands are ideal for tight budgets. I'd rather go and see the counterfeit stones for £15 than the Rolling Stones for £150. Imagine the ticket prices if The Beatles had ever got together . . . Makes the bootleg Beatles a total bargain.
I'd rather go and see GBH for a fiver......
6.
It is possible to do both
Not on my budget....... .
7.
I played in a Free tribute band for a few years, absolutely loved playing those bass lines.
Wouldn't you rather play your own though?
8.
Because of excellent songs, excellently played in an excellent performance ... and so an excellent night out. I think that's usually why.
Each to their own. I'd rather go and see an original band I haven't heard before.
9. TribHaters.....nice.Indeed , each to their own,but I just don't get tribute bands, why anyone would want to be in one or why anyone would want to see one.
10. But which is the best power cable for Metal?
11. First is a 1962 Burns Sonic, second is a Tokai Thunderbird, third is a Tokai Hard Puncher. My 78 Fender Precisions are on the first page.I'm a little bit younger in the second pic....

15. Precision with a Jazz profile neck and a PJ pickup. Best of both worlds.
16. Nice. Mine used to be that colour a few decades ago..DR strings?
17. I've got one of the ones that would result in a certain American manufacturer sending lawsuits if I were to mention what it looks like..Very impressed although the electrics were not particularly well executed. And it's one of the few ( 8 in total) left handed ones.
18. Volume (and tone) on the bass up full, and change volume as required on the amp. Mainly because the knobs on the bass don't have graduation marks on like the amp does.
19. My priorities are very simple. Is it a black left handed Precision with a jazz profile neck that I can afford?
20. First bass was a Kay Gibson copy, flipped over and restrung. As it was such poor quality wood it was fairly easy to move the controls and jack socket out of the way. It was such a terrible instrument I'm surprised I bothered carrying on.
21. I'd be interested if I didn't already have one. Nice instrument at a good price.
22.
Hi. I use Laney Richter 4x10 8ohms 400 watt cab( red Truvox 1018 speakers) with an Ashdown Mag 410 4x10 8ohm 450 watt cab(8 ohm 150 watt Ashdown speakers) with a Hartke Ha3500 bass head (240w at 8ohm,350w at 4ohm). My prob is the Ashdown cab is much quieter than the Laney cab (at least half the volume). All speakers are working.I don't understand why the difference in output. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
As Dad3353 has already pointed out, it's likely that the speakers in the Ashdown are simply less efficient. When you say the Ashdown is quieter, is that with both cabs running at the same time, or have you done a comparison running one at a time?
