1.
ah the old pick versus fingers debate again eh, I play with a pick because, 1. My favourite bass players use a pick, JJ Burnell, Paul Simonon even Macca 2. It gives you more attack and definition. 3. It looks a lot cooler, always think bass players who use their fingers and have the bass up round their necks look like geeks. just my opinion of course, and I play in a punk band where using a pick is almost compulsory
No argument here....
 2.
was he ex-Cure?
Yes.
 3.
Not meaning to hijack this thread but I'd be interested to know what basses Michael Dempsey played when with 'the associates'?
A Guild, from what I recall.
 4. Fender Precision Fender Precision Fender Precision Fender Precision Fender Precision I think that should cover all potential requirements.
 5.
Well yes, but a lot of punk bands were not exactly blessed with even half-decent singers either.
And they tended not to spout Neo Nazi rhetoric..
 6. I have a Squier PJ. I like the neck lots, but I can't say I use the J pickup at all.
 7. Green Day are well into their '40's. Don't worry about it. Also,in my opinion........You're best off not knowing anything about them...
 8. Interesting question. I have no idea, and I intend to find out.
 9. Happy Cake day! It really is downhill from now on.
 10.
. My first bass was a horendous SG copy, the body was so thin I thought it would snap, action you could comfortably have a picnic under and strings I'm sure were nicked from a farmers fence,
Also.Kay,it was. Bought from Woolworths for the enormous sum of £40 in 1978. It's still in the loft.
 11. Hmm. Having trouble getting Youtube links up. You're all grownups, go look, DISCHARGE. Aint no feeble bastard.
 12. I have a late 80's Tokai Hard Puncher and 'tis indeed a fine instrument. In theory, any Precision scratchplate should fit. Personally at £400 I think the Tokai is overpriced.
 13.
Heavily reliced in a fire? Haha
For the Hendrix look...
 14.
I think you're all thinking about it too much. :-)
I like a good rant. And this one's actually about basses!
 15.
My 1978 Precision was pretty immaculate when I got it in 1999. It still looks good now but the finish is starting to flake away on the neck. Surprisingly there are no marks that look like the bass was attacked by a belt sander, mainly because the bass has not been attacked by a belt sander.
My first 1978 Precision WAS immaculate when I bought it in 1980. And other than a few dings and a patch where my wrist has worn through the topcoat exposing undercoat, it looks nothing like any of these relic'd things.(It's the one in the profile pic)
 16.
What will relic'd basses look like in 40 years!
If they've been looked after, exactly the same.....Which is kind of missing the point.
 17.
Do it the authentic way. Buy a nice new bass and then gig it for 40 years. To me that is the only way to relic a bass.
Yes. I hate relic'd instruments. It's like pretend scars. You're not fooling me.
 18. To quote Hartley Peavey ( who knows a bit about making instruments) "It doesn't matter if it's bolted on,glued on or stuck in with chewing gum, as long as it's solid it doesn't matter a damn". Not sure I'd like to try the chewing gum option though.
 19.
going on stage without your trousers, not something I'd repeat in a hurry.
Something we should all do at least once. Big venues with full PA and good foldback, I don't feel the need for an amp, small gigs with a vocal only PA then I want several hundred watts behind me, and our drummer insists on it being next to him.
 20. I quite fancy a British Racing Green Precision.
 21.
I used to own an Allegro in a colour which my wife always described as diarrhea biege. That would probably equate to vintage tweed in Fender colors.
Woah, hold up, one does not simply own up to owning an Allegro. Some debasement may be appropriate here....
