1. Hi guys. Apreciate your thoughts on the mastering of our new song... https://soundcloud.com/richard-thurbin/extra-light-on I have only done this a few times before so still very much a beginner. All comments apreciated.
2. Sounds good, get the right singer and you're away...
3. Care to share the recording? I recorded all my gig and you can always pick holes in it...
4. Dont under estimate the effort of standing for two hours let alone one with a 10kg weight on your neck. There are all sorts of core muscles keeping you up which happen without you realisaing it. A common torture technique is to just make someone stand, for hours.... The danger is you rip somthing, bleed internally, dont realise and then pass out / die through blood loss or septicemia. Take a pew if I were you.
5. I rehearse with as little gear as possible and have been known to stick the guitar in to the PA. I haven't yet managed to rehearse without a guitar, but all suggestions welcomed. Having said that, I gig with as little gear as possible also..! Depends on the size of the venue etc and again have been known to turn up with a guitar and lead...
6.
I apologise for your baffledness, but to be fair the thread was for my benefit and it has certainly worked in that respect
No need to apologise I don’t think I ever will get it. Whilst I like having a nice sounding backline and want to “dial in that tone” whenever I can, I know it is not always possible. Cost, practicality, weight, the wife and life get in the way. Plus most of the gigs I play now are plug and play affairs so you end up playing with all sorts of sh*t or just straight in to the PA. I fear you are sucked in to a whirlwind of GAS and will come out the end of it significantly poorer but none the (tone) wiser. Finally, have you considered a different cab if it is mid tone shaping you are after?
7.
It's not worth it solely as a practice amp as it goes plenty loud enough to gig small-medium venues with!
Don't get sucked in to this, I did with the LB30 and it just isn't loud and I can't imagine the 15 is any louder.
8. I have to say this thread baffles me. If mids are an issue, wouldn't a parametric EQ sort out the problem? Ideally 7 bands +... this seems ideal: http://ashdownmusic.com/products/6/Pedals/9/Ashdown-Pedals/69/12-Band-Graphic-DI-/ Also, why wouldn't you make sure your next amp had one if a seperate pedal was not ideal? Yours confused....
9. 3.5 hours and dropping a buyer is really poor show. As others have said 2 days is reasonable but still slightly inpaitent. Nothing wrong with having a "reserves" list.
10. Hi guys. Here is the latest demo of a new song the band "Two Stems Four Words" (aka Robin and I) have been working on. https://soundcloud.com/richard-thurbin/extra-light-on Hope you enjoy and comments always welcome.
11. It was both Neds Atomic Dustbin and "The Chain". Quite a combination!
12. I spent way too much of my life in the OPs situation. My only response would be... ...run forest, run...
13. As the guitar is mostly an electric instrument, I have always thought that pickups, then strings make the most significant difference.
14.
My name is Daryl, that's a proper English name, right?
For a girl I have lost months of my life not going with my gut feelings at auditions. Well done OP, plenty more bands out there.
15. Probably too late now, but record the audition, especially the drummer & vocals. Always good to review the next day to re-listen and then you can make a more measured judgement on the band overall.
16. Eb, Bb are quite common with horns and woodwind, so you soon learn to love them. Some singers also prefer songs in a particular key, so I ended up playing many songs in F for one band. Pop and rock 3 chord wonders in G tend to get a bit tedious....
17. Looks great, especially with the amp on top! Do you have any pictures with the band? It is hard to judge size unless it is with reference to something else.
18. Am I weird or something? My best rig is no rig at all!! Turn up, plug in to the Fishman P Pro (DB) / Zoom 9.1 (BG) and play... If I *must* then the best rig is my current rig (BF Midget T and or Compact + Ashdown LG previous pre amps as required).
19. I am a fan of them, but only selfishly... I find the best thing to do when you join or form a new band is to get to an open mic. Really tests the metal of people and weeds out the bedroom players & "let’s get things perfect by rehearsing for 3 years" bands. I also use them to try new songs and see how they sound in a live environment outside of the studio.
20. As an aside, "BOG" was made up of 'British or German' standard and meant 'high quality' standard. Fully how words take on new meanings! I would suggest the industry standard is not the Fender brand or articular pickups used, but the actual guitar form it's self. As in being made from strings about 35", body made of wood, slung around the neck and the output stuck in to somthing which amplifys the sound. That is much more standard in Rock/Pop/Whatever to me than EUB, DB, or keys. Different genre's have different "industry standards", Jazz for example not really having any sort of standard other than 'the standards' themselves!
21. I had a simular experiance to the OP buying a Midget-T a few years ago. It got slightly worse when I had a problem and the response was less than pro-active. I tend to buy stuff second hand, usually off here and get much better service! I also agree with the OP. Barefaced need to grow, but in a way which keeps the service personal or stick it in the shops and let the retailer do it. EDIT: I should add, the product is superb and is worth the poor service IMHO.
22. So it has taken a while and now I have paired my Midget T with the same generation Compact as a post christmas present. Words cannot describe the earth shattering awesomeness which comes with owning this rig. It re-defines what is possible and comes as standard with gut shaking lows, crystal clear mids and twinkling highs all in an insanely light package. I cannot believe how great this rig sounds from top to bottom. Really, my praise holds no bounds... I have tried it with: Guitars: 2 x Hohner 6 string active bass, one fretted, one de-fretted. Pre-amp: Ashdown RPM & Zoom B9.1ut (both sound great) Amp: Ashdown Little Giant & Peavy IPR 1600 (the LG is better and louder, the IPR goes in to DDT and cuts out) The band have all complemented how much deeper and ever present the bass is compared to a midget T only stack. I will post a more through report after my first gig, but after two rehearsals with different bands it has done everything I ask, has shown nothing to be wanting and I can not believe how much more awesome they sound together than they do apart.
