3. Getting some serious interest in this great guitar from other adverts elsewhere. Two people are trying to sell guitars to buy the SG1000. So it may not be here for much longer. get it, while you can!.....BUMP!
4. Thanks for the bump, Shonks. This is indeed a cool bass, maybe even über cool! In fact it is so cool that the sale is getting hot. A deal has been agreed in principle via another advert elsewhere, but will not be completed til after NYE. So this may be your last chance to jump on one of the nicest custom Jazz Basses around and incredible.......BUMp!
5. Just a little pre-Christmas bump here........amazing how many instruments are for sale just before the big man gets stuck in the chimney
6.
And now a guitar has two more strings than a guitar!
And now I play guitar more than bass.....weird! One of these days I'll catch up and have as many strings as all the modern players!
7. Back in early 80s a bass had two less strings than a guitar......
8. Sold for £795. This is a classic and highly collectible Japanese guitar from the 70s, known as the Les Paul killer and favoured by many greats over the years. The SG1000 is the set neck version of the Santana guitar designed with Carlos himself in the early 70s. The SG1000 has sustain that lasts forever and wonderful tone, courtesy of it beefy Alnico V hum-bucking pickups, which have push/push coil taps on the tone controls, to give it even more tonal range. This guitar adapts well to any playing style from Rock to Jazz, to Soul to Funk, to Reggae to Punk. It has been professionally re-fretted recently with period correct fret-wire and plays very well indeed with a nice low and clean action. The guitar comes in a Hiscox case designed to fit this exact instrument. The whole guitar has seen some action and acquired a nice patina over the years. It is a testament to the quality of these early Yamahas that it is in such good working order. This instrument is available to view at Nottingham City Guitars. Collection is preferred; but shipping by courier could be arranged by buyer at their own cost and risk. PM me with your email address and I will send you more photos.
9. Ultra cool looking & sounding Jazz Bass, as interpreted by German maker Sandberg, whose instruments are hand crafted & finished to an amazing high quality. This is the highest spec Deluxe version of this great bass. It plays beautifully and has a has a nice slim fast neck, reminiscent of a Precision Bass tapering to a Jazz Bass neck at the nut end. The neck has a very comfortable and smooth gun oil finish. The pick ups are full rich & clear sounding Italian Delanos, with a single coil Jazz pup in the neck position and a hum-bucking MusicMan soapbar pup in the bridge position. The MM soapbar has a coil tap to split it and run as a single coil Jazz bass pup too. The bass can be run in active or passive mode and sounds great in both. The two tone controls cut tone when in passive mode and can both cut and boost tone in active mode. The bass is finished in gleaming black with a matching headstock and has a silver-grey pearloid scratch-plate; this combination makes this bass an absolute stunner that looks as good as it plays. It comes in its original Sandberg soft case, with hangtags and original tools and is in excellent condition; it is a one-owner instrument. This Sandberg California 4-string Dekuxe Jazz Bass is available to view at Nottingham City Guitars. Collection is preferred; but shipping by courier could be arranged by buyer at their own cost and risk. PM me with your email address and I will send you more photos.
10. Price Drop....now open to offers over £3,250 for a quick sale for cash. This is a genuine Pre-CBS Fender bass, which I have owned since 1995. It is Lake Placid Blue with a white (now mint green) pick-guard and Brazilian rose wood finger board on a maple neck with clay dots. It has been refinished, probably a very long time ago, possibly in the 1970s. The refin was done to a very high standard with period-correct lacquer and colouration. It has since aged nicely. The original spaghetti logo is present & correct. When I bought the bass I had it completely taken apart to check the originality of everything. The neck is stamped 5 Jul 1963 C for the neck profile which is comfortable and typical of a vintage Precision. Even the thin vintage frets appear to be original. The body is swamp ash and is therefore relatively light; it has the bump under the neck socket, clay dots on the board and a strap button behind the headstock, as original P basses of ths era should. I am told the original pots are present and correct, but the wires have been replaced. The internal part of the input jack socket has been replaced. The pick ups are the original ones and the bass sings with a beautiful warm woody tone. The truss rod moves freely and does its job. The vintage frets are good. The bass currently has a nice medium low action and it could probably go even lower if required. The pick up and bridge covers are modern; however I had them aged by a professional restorer, so they look right on the bass. The case is a modern Fender hard-shell case. This is a 99% original 1963 Pre-CBS Fender Precision Bass, apart from the case and ashtrays. The bass sounds great in any musical setting from Rock to Jazz, to Soul to Funk, to Reggae to Punk and always cuts through the band. I have the orginal receipt from when I bought it in '98 from Musical Exchanges in Birmingham and a certificate of authenticity from Phil Boot, who was a legendary expert on old instruments and a great guitar tech in these parts. Phil reckoned this was a very good and authentic bass indeed with an excellent refin; and he should know, having sourced guitars for the likes of Brian May and Angus Young. Cash on collection is preferred; but shipping by courier could be arranged by buyer at their own cost and risk. PM me with your email address and I will send you more photos. I am looking for sales only, please; as this bass needs to fund a guitar purchase. Thanks.
11. GSH is da bomb! Check out tracks called It's Your World and Bicentennial Blues and New York on his 1976 live LP It's Your World.....killer LP...
12. +1 for JJs....a good solid reliable valve that does 90%+ of anything your ultra rare vintage NOS valves can do for at most 50% of the price I do like an occasional high-end NOS treat though! JAN Philips, GEC and Mazda are my favourites when prepared to spend a good bit more.
13. I used to be in a band with the drummer for this lot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcVPj1jLkOw
14. Nice job....and one of my favourite guitarists/guitars/sounds
15. George Duke LP A Brazillian Love Affair, signed by the man himself.....and it's one of those rare LPs that is totally brilliant from start to finish.
16.
It doesn't matter if the seller was aware of the fault. If the fact is that the fault was present when the buyer collected it, then the seller is liable. Proving it may not be without its problems, but I would have given it a bloody good go. We wouldn't even be discussing this if the buyer had been able to pay through PayPal as eBay would have refunded and debited it back from the seller. Quite rightly so in my opinion. I'm not even sure sellers can insist on cash payment. Doesn't that violate T's & C's?
Sorry, but I disagree with this. The law on purchases is very simple and very clear....It says 'Buyer Beware', i.e. it is the buyer's responsibility to check that what they are buying is satisfactory. If the seller misrepresented something about the item that is a totally different situation; but you can't expect the seller to know every last thing about an item, especially if it is something as deeply hidden as a truss rod on a bass.
17. I just love everything about Chaka! She is hands down the best female singer of all time IMO.
18. Saw Simple Minds at Hammersmith Odeon once and literally fell asleep during their set....ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzz
19.
I saw Will Young in Glasgow last Friday. I was surprised in that the show was better than I had expected. I went along as my friend Paul Turner ( Jamiroquai ) was on bass. Really great band, and Michelle John ( Eric Clapton backing singer ) was amazing as always. Paul's bass sounded great through the PA. I spoke to the sound guy afterwards. Turns out he did the sound on Kate Bush's recent Hammersmith gigs.
Spookily I know the guitarist who depped for a couple of those KB gigs at Hammersmith. The same guy has played in my band too; so via some weird degrees of separation thing, it turns out we have all played together with Kate, Eric and JK too!
20. Phew! I am a big Nard fan and even bought a 79 MM Ray in early/mid 80s that was same natural and black as Nard's just cos it was like his bass. I used rounds on it all its life and it always sounded like Nard's bass to me!
