1. Was Flea miming and the tape got stuck in the machine again? What truly awful tone.
2.
There are quite a lot, but some of them are very spendy. Off the top of my head: Empress Tremolo Diamond Tremolo Suhr Jack Rabbit (has tap tempo and strum tempo) Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter Chase Bliss Gravitas (total overkill for your needs by the sound of it) Line6 Tonecore Tap Tremolo Cusack Tap-A-Whirl If you want a cheap one then the best option is probably something like a line6 M5. The tremolo effects on the M5 seem to be very popular and they're very cheap pedals. If you can find a second hand Seymour Duncan that's probably a good choice too. I have an Empress and its fantastic. Its very simple to operate.
+1 on the Empress Trem.....simple to use, premium lush sound qualities, nice tweakability and I especially like the square, sine, valve wave forms you can apply. The square wave is so cool going into a filter!
3. Having just sold a genuine 63P and therefore following the market pretty closely for last 6-9 months, I would say that prices have gone down abit recently; but it is often hard to find out what stuff is actually being sold for rather then what people are asking for. I was selling this and a couple of other instruments to fund the purchase of a genuine 68 Les Paul Gold Top, which I got for what seems like a pretty low price too. Swings and roundabouts.................
4.
Ive seen them live twice. and he didn't come across like that at all for me. I'm not saying he can't be Bassnut. I saw them at the cheltenham jazz fest and after they all went to a bar across the road and i got talking to him.he even bought me a drink, he came across as very level headed to me. believe me i can recognise some unbalance in a personality when i meet them .. i found Cory Henry, who was the organ player that night quite arrogant. but I was thinking, you just don't know what is going on in these peoples lives. He might of been knackered, pissed. who knows.
No, I didn't get to meet him personally and good to hear from a couple of people that he's a sound muso bloke. I just felt he didn't come across all that well on stage, at least not on the nights I saw the puppies play; but he's defo a great player none the less. Maybe I am just too cynical or English, but his over-abundant enthusiasm didn't seem that real to me......I'll get my coat!
5. I did a lot of research before buying and reckon this is the best phaser in a small 9v box. It has a lot of great sounds and is very lush. Here's a demo.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ6KkHt9SHs I use it mostly for that nice slow almost wah-like phase sound that is used a fair bit in funk and reggae. It produces a great Ernie Isley sound for lead work, with a bit of drive/distortion and plenty of sustain in front of it too.
6. Snarky bass player is a good player, no doubt; but his gurning iritates me. I've seen the Puppies live a couple of times and both were great gigs; but ML just comes across as an arrogant know-it-all, who's just a bit too pleased with himself. He's worked hard to get there and I take my hat off to him for that and his playing;.....but please, lose the attitude!
My 1989 Japanese Fender 50's Telecaster
Love those late 80s early 90s Jap Fenders. Stick some top spec electrics & pups in them and you have one of the best Fenders available.
9. Bought a Pedaltrain Mini board from Daniel. It was a smooth transaction all the way with good comms and the board arrived quickly and well-packed. I can recommend Daniel as a good person to trade with confidently. Rupert
10. Weekend bump to let you all know this stunning 63P is still available for offers above £3,250. In the words of the great Phil Boot of Long Eaton, the refin was done '.....with correct period lacquer and colouration - an extremely fine example, very rare - very collectable and faultless playability and sound'. Come and check it out!
11. I read once that Miles Davis was asked about playing bum notes. His answer was that he just plays the same bum note again and everyone thinks he meant it first time. He then said if he played it a third time, everyone thought he was a beeping genius!
12. PM incoming
13. Someone help Chris out by buying his ported pants. The free bass looks nice too! Bump
14. Bump for certificate of authenticity from Phil Boot, a legendary expert in the E Midlands. I am up for serious and sensible offers above £3,250 now.
15. Always hated Trace sound even back in the Eighties. They sound bland and cold to my ears and if you had to carry around a heavy amp like that, why wouldn't you choose an old Fender Bassman or an Ampeg valve head and a tasty cab?
16. One of the single greatest bands in early form with Lowell George; been into them since I was 13 in 1975. Only other rock n funk bands that deserve equal billing are Tower of Power and The Meters IMO.
17. traded my TC Corona (chorus) + some cash for DiscoTetak's Iron Ether Polytope (extreme chorus). The whole deal was easy to do with great communications from DT. We discovered that the Croatian postal service is quicker than Royal Mail in the UK too, as we both posted our pedals on same day and the Polytope arrived first. The pedal arrived in excellent conditions, works 100% and is exactly as described. Thanks DT; I recommend you to anyone thinking of doing a deal with you.
18. Good question. Stax for me, even as a kid. I only got to like more Motown later, when I started playing bass at age of about 20
19.
We could do with your address and an idea of when you are out! Seriously though, anybody looking for a guitar won't get anything anywhere near as good for the price you are asking. They are keepers too!
Thanks Dunc - you were right and this baby is now sold for a bit less than my asking price of £895
20.
They have a real beauty in the gallery Camden, it's a 64 in only white, I have played it and it's to die for however, they are asking £4500 so a 63 in lake placid looks like great value to me. Good luck
Thanks RJB, it is a lovely bass this 63P and I think it is very keenly priced. There's been quite a bit of interest from various quarters, but nobody has yet come up with enough cash to take it home.....Luckily I am in no big rush.
21.
Hello, Can someone please tell whats happened to Phil Boot guitars had alot of work done in 1998 but now I have seen only an underwear shop in its place in Long Eaton. He'll be in his early sixties now, but someone who's been making them for so long might be in a corner of a work shop in garage somewhere...anyone...please ... thanks DD

That's a blast from the past, not seen Phil for 12 years or so! he is perhaps the finest repair guy in the country. The Paulman EUB he (along with Paul McNab) made me is an amazing instrument. Last I heard he was working for Toyota in Derby, but like I say not seen him for a long time. Would love to get in touch with him again.
I used to use Phil Boot too - great technician and all-round lovely bloke. I heard Paul McNab died 4/5 years ago now and Phil was put out of business (due to cashflow) by some dubious characters who ordered a couple of guitars from him and never paid for them, on top of this his daughter was ill in Australia; so he shut up shop. Last I heard was he was working in the Toyota factory too. A great loss to all guitarists and bass players around Notts.
22. We do this in my band and absolutley nail it, which is probably why I am playing guitar not bass in this band!
