1. I hate that awful "heavy breathing" sound Diana has. She's utter crap, copying songs that sucked the first time around. A recipe for disaster!
2. What is the price?
3.
yes they are difficult to get hold of
The funny thing was, when I traded my first Kubicki (a 1989 Fender "crossover" example with the original parts and 18V preamp) it ended up for sale here a few weeks later for £550, when I was skint! If I'd have had the cash I would have bought it back!
4. With Markbass I've always thought they managed to make good looking gear that sounds fairly good, but the prices always seemed a little excessive for me, where sometimes it wasn't a huge step up to being able to afford some really top line stuff!
5. I've just never got YES. I'm not a huge fan of prog rock though, but YES have always struck me as a bit naff. I guess you had to be there, because looking back on those records I struggle to find anything to like!
6. As always, that Alembic looks amazing.
7. Remember around the early years of this millenium when Warwicks were huge? Adverts in every magazine and everyone wanted them, everyone who had them raved incessantly about them! And I don't just think it was nu metal doing that!
8.
So that's where Peter's bass has gone... nice one! If you have no love for the Kubicki, I'll give it a home.
Yep, I bought it last week? Had you been looking at it? I doubt I'll ever let a Kubicki go again (I've made that mistake before!). It's nice to have a slice of 80's technology sitting around. The Kubicki is just so awesome, nothing else sounds like it and I think I'd miss that sound! If you ever want a go for old time's sake, just PM me. EDIT: Molan, got any pictures of the 80's Monarch?
9.
Probably an ACG 6 string. It covers everything i need except for fretless but id live.
I might actually have to change my mind from my Kubicki to my ACG Harlot singlecut. It's incredible, absolutely fantastic. Could it be the best bass I've ever had? A review will follow soon...
10. I've never seen a Bartolini pickup with exposed pole pieces.
11. I've made the mistake of letting go of a Kubicki in the past!
12. Truely beautiful! I think it was Fodera who I first saw using Holly, on some Monarch and Contrabass guitars. It does have that incredible effect, and is a brilliant looking wood in the right context! Looks like a stunner from Overwater!
13. I have always loved that body shape, it is excellent. I always find these ones strange to look at though, without the typical ornate wooden tops typical of Ken Smith basses! I particularly like the Burner basses with the wood tops, these are a real find! They seem to be more scarce than even the top line KS stuff!
14. A week ago I'd have bought this in a second!
15. Any pictures of it with strings on?
16. You could buy a used fretted Alembic Epic for the price of a new jazz bass, which just goes to show how much you can get for your money if you spend it wisely and buy used!
17. You should really have more photos of that C6!
18. This item is still for sale, as the previous buyer could not collect. To those who have enquired about shipping the head, this isn't something I want to do at the moment.
19. I tend to play a lot of originals these days, albeit they are often extended fusion-y jams played and recorded in a studio purely for our own enjoyment. We just don't have the time to go out and gig!
20.
Some might argue that Fenders are like Porsche - I don't think this is the case as Porsche improved over the years.
Porsche represent a premium marque, of which Fender (basses, anyway) are not. I'd say that Fender are like Volkswagen cars over all. They'll get you from A to B and get the job done, usually with little flair whatsoever. They have a few good models in the range (Urge II bass, Victor Bailey jazz, Zone bass etc etc) but people seem to generally want to stick to the bog standard P and J basses. I'd say jazz basses are perfectly useable, but there are so many better designs out there.
21. I never knew Ken Smith didn't build the basses!
22.
Kinal MK-5, currently back with Eubassix and I can't afford to get it back. NEVER should've let this one go. Utterly fabulous bass in every way .
Maybe one day you'll get it back! Keep those fingers crossed!
23. I listened to this the other day, interesting. Is there any story behind the Wal? I always associate Wal double necks with Jonas Hellborg!
24. Could just be the bass itself and the way you perceive it? My Warwick Thumb sounded a bit like that (albeit not as apparent and lacking in punch). It had so much power and presence in the low mids that the upper registers sounded a little flat by comparison. Certainly nothing to stop you soloing on it, but the design of the bass meant that this was an inherent characteristic.
25.
Aw man, that thing was an animal... remember giving it a blast in my garage? If I remember correctly, a shelf fell off the wall or something
This sounds class! The one I wish I hadn't sold is my 1989 Kubicki Ex Factor, #1777. I traded it for a Status Stealth bass which was good but nowhere near as good as the Kubicki. The Kubicki then came up for sale on the boards for £550 a few weeks later, I was so skint I couldn't buy it back!
