1. Some say that his breath smells of magnesium, and that he’s scared of bells… Some say that his heart ticks like a watch, and that he’s confused by stairs… Some say that he has no understanding of clouds, and that his ear wax tastes like Turkish delight… Some say he has a digital face, and that if he felt like it, he could fire Alan Sugar… Some say he invented Branston Pickle, and that if you insult his mother, he will head-butt you in the chest… Some say that his first name really is “The,” and that if he went on Celebrity Love Island, they’d all be pregnant including the camera men… Some say his droppings have been found as far north as York. And that he has a full size tattoo of his face, on his face.... All we know is..... Well what do we know?
2. ps. Not trying to be annoying, just my thumb hurts from practising
3.
deers no respeck fur a gitar yu gain wivvowt cost. I not been rood juss fillisofical. zlapp! bless XX
Theres a great clip on youtube of guy pratt talking about his stack knob jazz bass, which was given to him as a present, so at no cost to him and im sure he very much respects it as he said he lusted after it. I respect any bass unless its a) an epiphone thunderbird or b ) it has a john east j retro pre amp
4. isnt that the same shape as a sei flamboyant? probably half the price too

6.
Ok this may be old news, but there is another Jamiroquai album out..its called "Rock Dust Light Star"...ive heard its much more band orientated....hope its a good, music wise...they usually are with a few discrepancies IMHO... http://www.jamiroquai.com/ now i wait for the link for the older thread...
Theres been plenty of talk about it but i think this is the first link from the official website. Last thing i heard it was supposed to be coming out next month, but obviously not. I really liked some of the stuff on dynamite so i think this may be a good one for me
7. Wouldnt the best buss gitar zlapper ever have lots of gigs and rehearsals to be getting to instead off letting us inferior buss gitar zlappers know that we are indeed no competition. Actually instead of being on here so much im going to practice and challenge you to a zlapp off!
8. I cant slap for toffee, but i can groove well and im alright at coming up with nice melodies. Based on this video does that mean i can never be up there and considered a good bass player?
9.
Check out the Tech21 VT Bass and/or Catalinbread SFT pedals (one for sale in the classifieds). Both sound great for rock bass tones, the VT is better for the more grindy sounds played with a pick and roundwounds, the SFT has the edge when it comes to old school tones.
These pedals are what will match the sound you wanted the best. Alot of other pedals can be a bit over the top with distortion
10.
I'm going to address the title of the thread 'musical turning points' and not follow on 'bass playing turning points'. This may rather age the discussion a bit, but hearing 'Dark Side of the Moon' by Pink Floyd for the first time was an introduction to seeing music from somewhere totally new, at the time. It really was revolutionary in it's day. T
My taste in music has completely followed my ability and taste on bass. So im still keeping to the post
11. My girlfriend, she doesnt claim to be a bassist but when she said "all guitars are the same" i had to make her try to play
12. Wild cherry, play that funky music. Never grooved anything until then, now im a lean mean grooving machine
13. I agree with the first reply, look at what you biggest influences are. For me i would get a 70's stingray because i really like louis johnson and benard edwards
14.
Will post on here as soon as I get my LMII Hurry up Tuesday Hey, were you the guy I met at Andertons on Monday? (I'm the guy with glasses who said I was interested in getting a fretless)
nope sorry, i havnt been in andertons for ages!
15. standard payment is 1200 for a 7 piece, New Years gig is traditionally 1.5 the normal payment. It depends how many offers you think will come your way?
16. i kno its not in the porn section but god im in the mood for some warwick hopefully the weathers sunny enough to get my thumb in the garden
17. It seems V V Brown is going for the larger american market, could be a record label thing? And Janek is completely mad, i was with him for 2 hours and he is extremely opinionated and cockey. But the guys done really well for himself so i can only respect him.
18.
FWIW I believe Janek is her MD. I like how he juggles working in pop, playing as a jazz sideman (eg Mike Stern, Bob Reynolds) and his own band.
your correct, he has been since the release of her album. The moneys in pop, whereas jazz its not. There was a big topic about this before
19.
Don't know what all the hype is about...
can i come to dinner around your house please
20. The john east pre amps offer you a lot of option for cutting and boosting. Unfortunately for me they seem to have ruined every nice bass iv seen them installed on, they are far too artificial sounding and take away any character from the woods. But their great for cheeper basses which lack the wood. +1 on saving up for a MM bass, i thought they were really good, not very versatile but they had a killer jazz tone that was consistent all over the neck
21. The horns were on the origional record, nothing new from janek. I do however much prefer the fodera's sound. It gives it more edge and impact rather than be too warm like the p bass. I also really like VV browns voice and bought the album after seeing her on jooles holland and im afraid there arnt many good songs on there.
22.
You'll find a fair selection at Tin Pan Alley in London (a street full of music shops) BUT I wouldn't buy from them - too expensive and rude service. Dawsons in Reading has a reasonable selection - it depends how many you want to try. If you are new to bass I'd always advise playing what you buy as opposed to buying online.
Do you mean denmark street? If so i wouldnt buy from bass cellar but i would have no issues with buying or trying stuff out in wunjos. The guys in there are brilliant and their gear isnt too expensive.
while in london surely The Gallery is worth a visit http://www.thebassgallery.com/
+1, best customer service iv ever had and my favourite shop in the world
23. The first thing iv noticed when playing a warwick is the good standard in build quality, well compared to fenders. The pickups and pre amp are great, all the hardware works perfectly, and finishes are smooth with no issues. Bad points; some neck dive on my thumb although this isnt a huge problem to me, the sound on the fretted warwicks i played wasnt quite to my taste, the looks are also a love or hate thing
24. Ashdown ABM combo. ABM was the top end of ashdowns line when this was produced just before the Klystron series were introduced. This combo has a 1x15 speeker and 350 watt Evo II head. The head has the following: Gain, shape selecter, active/ passive button, artificial valve drive, bass, mid, treble and a 4 way graphic equalizer from 180hz to 2.5khz. It also has a sub drive, post eq and volume. The sound is fantasticly warm and you can get a real Jamerson tone with any bass when the valve drive is on. It has an official cover and has rarely been used. Im now looking for just £240 collected from Guildford. email [email protected]
25. well to be honest guy i had only heard of you from the sophie ellis bexter song murder on the dance floor, but two standard questions for you 1) what has been your favourite moment in your career, can be bass related or not 2) Would you like to buy my ashdown combo? Pm me if you do
