[url="http://www.tvfilmprops.co.uk/pages/154/The-Seventies/"]http://www.tvfilmpro.../The-Seventies/[/url] I was thinking how much recording equipment had changed from the 70s 80s. with not much money then i was trying out all sorts of ways to get my ideas down. my first was a bush tape recorder with a mic the, oblong hand held one, i was then given an old phillips 4 track reel to reel which did me quite well, i still have some of the tapes i then got an AKAI 4000D reel to reel which then i thought looked great because it stood up and looked pro. then a fostex 8 track reel to reel totally bypassing the portastudio as i had lent a friends and never liked the quality once you started bouncing tracks, but found it a handy all in one. my biggest breakthrough to quality came when i got my Tascam MSR 16s 16 track which i still have and i love it, in the time i have had the tascam MSR, digi recorders have come and gone Fostex DMT8 ETC Then came my software phase starting with Cubase, as much as i tried and worked at it i could not get the sound of my bass right on cubase it always sounded compressed to hell and as if the frequency range was cut off at both ends and the mix always sounded cluttered then there was the crashing mid track and freezing sound card probs and the bit i hated the most was having to change screens all the time just to change something small, i now only use cubase as a drum editor and the score is very handy, I then went to Protools 001 then 002 then just gave up as was having another set of probs It was only when i got my Mackie D8B and HDR24 that i really felt at home and then it became a pleasure to get my ideas down, its such a great bit of kit, the sound is stunning and im again in love. I still have my Tascam MSR16s its great for getting ideas down fast then if any good al then do it on the mackie, Does anyone else use a Mackie D8B ? ? it was a long road and a great learning curve its amazing how much you learn and then realise how much time you have spent getting there, From this... Yea its a great promo vid, you have just made me revalue the way it should be done. there are so many band promo vids on a stage miming to songs with no audience. you get a real feel of the characters in your band this way, so much more personal. well done it inspires me with ideas for one for my band. the first thing that got me was i really thought that was one of my old dub's, i had to check the reg, nice.

[/quote] i did not know this, as all my wharfdales are floor monitors they dont have top hats. strange as you say that they should be a different size, i know you can get tophats on ebay to replace them, cus i had a pair of opus tops that had smaller di tophat and so had to replace them to fit my poles.

My main FOH pa is all HK actor, i dont plan on changing any of it for a good few years yet. if these are as good as the monitors then they will give you a good sound for small gigs for not much money. while you are doing the gigs save and get a pair of bins to add for bigger gigs. or as NORRIS said, if you have a bit more to spend then the Mackie thumps or SRM are a good step up again. and also as LES says the JBL are also good, its all down to £, ask the rest of the band to chip in ESP the singer !! If they dont want to help with costs then treat the pa as an active member of the band and it gets an equal cut,

got all Keb mo's cds, im mainly a modern blues fan, lloyd jones, lucky peterson, delbert mcclinton, colin james etc What keb has done is very clever, you get the feeling the roots of his music is triditional old school blues, he keeps this constant in his sound with the use of his steel national/dobro and an almost banjo type style and sound, through most of the tracks on his cd's but the drums and bass is upto date, feeling funky at times even pop. Very catchy, i think he is great. If you like a bit of funk in your blues check out also robert randolph and the family band, his cd " unclassified" i cant take off it really kicks ass, ... if i had to buy an expensive bass i would go and collect it, for two reasons, 1, to check it out 2, i dont trust any post. ( or sellers !!!) so... if i had an expensive bass for sale i would expect the buyer to do the same if he cant be bothered to do this and wants it posting then he can arrange that. why should i trust my bass in the hand of the post i would not use myself ??? if buyers want to trust them then thats their chance, if it arrives in bits he has only himself to blame providing the packing is sound, england is not that big and if it is something special then make a special trip.

Yes in active mode but there is a problem,.... i use two amps live, a small 2x10 swr redhead for smaller gigs, and a swr sm500 pro with a golly 6x10 for bigger gigs ( outdoor mainly) the redhead is a fantastic combo, the best 2x10 i have tried (and have been through most of them) with my wal and my other 83 G&L it sounds amazing, but.. it just cant handle the lows of the 2000E so i got a swr 2x10 ext cab and replaced the speakers with 2 x 500w 10" eminence Kappa, while it improved the o/p taking less strain off the combo it still struggled with the sub lows that the "E" produced so to use it well it was clear it needs big strong cab literage. so the only time i use it live is with the 500 and 6x10,,,, that knowing smile on my face before i play a note is not there for show, taking out the actives explains the reason yours has a lower o/p, the active preamp really does give it some power, to quote a remark by another l2000E "El tookay" user on the "basses by leo" forum [url="http://www.bassesbyleo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1280"]http://www.bassesbyl....php?f=4&t=1280[/url] "Fats is correct...to a point. The first E's had a preamp that did not allow the treble knob to function when the bridge pup is solo'ed. This was due to the early E preamps' chip not being able to handle the hard transients generated by the MFD's. The second generation E preamp was slightly tweaked with capacitors, and allowed the treble control to function in all positions,including the bridge pup solo'ed. E's and later L2000's all used the same preamp from early 1982 to 1992. Sound differences? Second-gen preamps sound clean and deep, adding big lows and highs that are not harsh or tinny. The bottom end on first-gen preamps can knock down buildings. Nothing sounds as mammoth as a first-gen E in OMG mode, and add in slot pole pickups, you can adversely affect the sperm count of the first 20 rows . My 81 E makes my son's crappy Kustom practice amp sound like a dimed SVT at coliseum levels. I have an early 1983 L2000E fretless with the second-gen pre, and I actually prefer that pre for the fretless, a little more versatile, a little more transparent high end. That one sings better, but the 81 is first-call for all-out seismic disruption."
