3. i have managed to get one from a very nice fellow bass chatter andreapenna. On fist trying i was not that impressed as prob was expecting a massive improvement on my RV3, but then after Andrea,s good advice i tried the editor and managed to clean up the amount of bass boom in the reverb its self, not the bass sound..... there is a very handy switch in the software ( pic att switch at top) that lets you turn off your bass sound so you just get the reverb added to the bass sound ( with the sampled reverbed bass in it) you can then move the timing of where the reverb comes in up to 100ms after you play your note. so when you press said switch to bring back your bass sound, you play your note you get the percussive sound of you playing it with no tone suck and no reverb at the beginning then the reverb comes in when you want and as soft as you want with out muddying up the beginning of the notes, when it does come in you dont want a wooly boomy bass sound in the reverb ( this is the sampled bass sound now) this is the bit i liked, by using the tone control this only effects the tone of you sampled bass in the reverb, not your own played bass sound, so you can take the boom out of it, if that makes sence. All in all yes happy with it. and a good learning curve in understanding reverb alot better I will try it live but i dont think it will drag me away from my RV3 ( i really like the addition of the D,Delay as well,) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuqs9Y9OzAY
4. Hi All I am trying to find out about how many L2000E basses there are kicking about in the uk. these are the ones with the fender type head, control plate on the front, some of the early ones had slot screwdriver pole pieces, i have had a wanted ad on here for 3 years with nothing coming up, i have seen in the past only 5 in the uk, and i am beginning to think they are prob one of the rarest basses in the uk, i have only ever seen 2 for sale in the uk. please post here a pic if you have one or a link to one be it youtube or for sale, Must be in the Uk. I love these basses, they are like a musicman Sabre on Crack, in fact there is only months between them, i have another post on here with a comparison between them if interested. 79 sabre V 81 G&L L2000E Some things you might not know about the 2000E what sets them apart from the later 2000 series. 1) The fingerboard on the Early L2000E and some early L2000 is unstained Ebony not rosewood. 2) Leo curved the finger board bottom like he did on the early fender basses. 3) The L2000E had a skunk stripe down the back of the neck on both maple and ebony boards. 4) Leo also went back to the 3 screw tilt neck, From L2000E and then on to the L2000 5) Slot pole pieces, When you move these 90 Deg slot inline with string or across, it sounds different, slightly. 6) The L2000E and for the first year had "Schaller" stamped tuners, with the norm alloy tuning heads to cut down weight. 7) Like the early Musicmans Leo started the serial numbers off from B00... 8) Series 1 pre amps together with the early slot pickups on the early L2000E the OP is huge so were tamed down as were too powerful i think the transients from the pups were too much and were blowing chips, Here is mine. Cheers Hanging out with his mates.

7.
Nice one.As soon as I find out what a root flat 7th, I will have a go. I have a lesson tomorrow so I will ask. Thanks
Play a Maj scale in say.. G ( dow ray me far so la te dow) then count as you play, 1 =dow 2 = ray 3 = me ETC count the 7th note ( te ) which is F# then just flat it (ie go back a semi) which is F The root is G the Maj flat 7 is F its as simple as that Hence blues chord turn arounds being say 145 ie G=1 to C=4 (back to G) D=5 just easyer than saying 141541, or say a 145 with a #5, = 1, 4,1,5, #5, 1. the #5 is just going a semi up from the 5 to Eflat E.G. when you play say a rock n roll bass line in again G Maj while its right to play a 7th it sounds badd so we nearly always use a flat 7th ie play the notes 1,3,5,6, flat7,6,5,3, repeat. new you can ask for your £10 back cus now you know that
8. i love this reminds me so much of my ex...... If you have not got these in your collection... shame on you go right now to amazon, do not pass go, do collect a cd, they are still playing live, if you get the chance to see them..... GO.
9.
Can't remember what music we had (it was 1972 after all) I recall years later playing the wedding video backwards just to see myself walking out of the church a free man! I'm divorced now. Myk
Im with you im not bitter.... but i wish my song was this... ( if you get chance to see them live JUST GO!)
10.
The band was average at the best.
no, Holly had a great voice, no doubt. Mark O'Toole was a very good bass player and good guitarist as well ped was solid tight drummer. marks lines on WTTPD are well played and just CLASSIC, They loved music, loved playing live, young, arrogant, self opinionated, crass, careless, looked good fresh powerfull and positively buzzing with vibrance all the ingredients for a great band. as a band i thought they were epic, i cant even imagine what music they would be doing now if they had stayed together, but im sure it would have had a massive impact on music direction.
11.
That is a good event but a bit depressing. Every year I see more cars that I know very well buy did not regard as being old then stop think about it. They are a fair age. More than welcome to drop in if you are in Moffat this year.
. Thanks if im there this year i will, ( sold my alpine now tho ) but will still go for the weekend. Cheers.
12.
An excellent reverb pedal.
Hi Ac, thanks, just checked out your ac basses. 14. I have been for years now using my secret weapon an old boss RV3 a Digital Reverb and Delay, in one, with out doubt the best thing i have found far short of taking my TC fireworx out the rack and gigging it, but just found this which sounds yummy goood as well. has anyone got one, tried one ?, their thoughts on it most welcome please. 15. My 2 fave sounds i use, are.. my 82 wal with a SWR pro 500 and swr 6x10.... clean and punchy. my 81 G&L L2000E or 83 L2000 with the above or for soul and blues with a TE 350smx and mk1 TE 4x10 cab. Others Mark king has had loads of nice tones over the years i love, too many to list. Magnum coltrane price with nils landgren's funk unit sound awsome, ( check him out !) Jerry Preston's BC Rich with Maceo parker sounds killer. Alan Spenner's wal . Gary Willis, again so many, but the tone on Bent is hi fi bliss (its only music one of my fave bass tracks ever) victor wooten again so many. Pino's MM fretless. Steve williams when he had his redhead combo with his fender jazz always sounded great with loose change. Tom kennedy with dave weckl Dave margen had a top sound with santana. This version of blast by marcus miller. so much better than the CD, The bass tones on night fly, Abraham Laboriel on donald fagens new frontier i use to love, then you listen to some of the other tracks on nightfly and Marcus Miller on maxine and the night fly Anthony Jackson on I.G.Y and Ruby baby .....................( tho a more rounded sound with the top cut) Chuck Rainey on green flower st These all sound similar with with varying degrees of top. a compressed bottom and a nice crisp crunchy top, the whole album is worthy of a debatable thread of it own.
16. francis rocco prestia Mark king Gary Crockett ernie mckone david condra, RIP. ( a friend that was in a local band) Jimmy Johnson ( check out wayne johnson trio, grasshopper cd, ) pierre michelot ( i play his "Round about a bass" cd every morning, great morning therapy,, try it) colin Hodgkinson James, J. 17. "less synthetic sound than the custom series but to be honest theres not much in it really" Hi good luck in your sale. i do understand sound is subjective. BUT...the wal custom is anything other than synthetic. Even compaired to the 1, 1E, 2 , 2E. iv been playing my custom for more than 20 years now and its one of the most naturel "woody" sound of all my basses. before that 20 years i used a wal pro 1 and 2E for years,
18. Hi, some take a while to download. this is the quickest by far takes about 2 seconds !!! http://www.youtube-mp3.org/
19.
The worst has to be anyone playing Norwegian Wood.
ooohhh i dont know, i like this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMrjufFfDoQ
20. My bit of good advice is,,, when you have finished playing with the E string rest your thumb on it. when you play say on the d string you are setting of a harmonic on the E or an open E string ringing. clearly heard about 1:06ish, 1:18 and 1:24, ETC.... mute what you dont use with your thumb, one of the things i use to teach is how to play notes without any clutter, ie... when you move to the G rest your thumb on the A which also mutes the E. hope it helps.
21.
Can some enlighten those not in the know?
EDITED ( Bugger roland rock beat me to it as i was doing this) As cloudburst said the logo was a dead giveaway its the wrong one for a start and someone has rubbed out the EB bit, .... see here for pre logos..... http://www.musicmanb...tompage0008.htm and as martin said 3 band eq is an EB addition, and did not come in till 87 http://www.musicmanb...tompage0019.htm 1 dot too many on neck. Address on back of head is a EB thing I may be wrong here but i have never seen a what looks like roasted Birds eye neck on a Pre EB.
22. I think someone better tell him. http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/musicman-stingray-bass--pre-ernie-ball/1016567238
23. i had a gator flight case collected from scotland 24 hour, when it arrived they had managed to put a hole in it with the piece still inside and 2 cracks in it, one on the lid and one half way round the alloy trim !. when i tryed to clame from parcel force they said it was not packed as there was no card around it. I argued that it WAS in its self packing, why would you need to pack what is surely the best packing you can get, They said they would not pay. I threatend them with court stating the above and also a big point, if the collector had seen it was not packed appropriately he should not have taken it. They paid out. For bigger claimes they wil mostly try and fob you off with a letter, this has now become standard practice in the hope you will just leave it. Follow it through with a letter threatening a court action ( not a phone call) stating your next move will be to hand their reply to your solicitor, and once in the solicitor hands you will have to see it through to clame your expences and his. ( so payment after this would be too late) that then will go to there legal dept and if you have a valid clame they will pay out. I send alot parcels around the uk mainly heavy classic car parts, the worst courier i have found is CITY LINK... DO NOT USE CITY LINK, !!!! they have caused me so much trouble, and i had an account with them !!
24. mmmmmmmmm when i first lent my friends realist i was made up with it. so i ordered one from "an unnamed shop in the uk" !!! when it arrived it had a much lower O/P than my friends so i took it over to his to compare, and... it was not the same the copper bit over the piezo was rough cut and not straight either, the lead was thinner, the jack socket was a normal cheap jack socket with heat shrink over it with no lettering on it like the realist,,,, no doubt it was a copy. so going over the shops head i got on to David Gauge and i had within a week a brand new one sent to me with a prepaid envelope to send the other to them in the usa, PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE David Gauge. And yes they were worlds apart the new one was GREAT. now i was in a predicament, i did not want to get the shop into trouble even tho i know they were trying to rip me off ( then i paid about £120 for it) as he was a friend of my friend, i did not want to ring the shop up and directly accuse HIM , so.. i never sent it to over to david Gauge, that was a while ago now. thinking back now i should of went back and shoved it up has nose... So to my point There are copys out there, just check it.
25. Another thumbs up for Rufus reid's book. When i was teaching i made all my students buy the Evolving Bassist. But for the most,,,My essential' recommendation.....spend as much time as you can learning things by ear. It WILL stay in It WILL stay in It WILL stay in
