I have had my fill of "Charity gigs" also the last one we did NOV last year took me all day to set up an 11 piece band drove 30 miles, tunnel fee then while there another duo used the pa as well as a chior and an army drum thing and backing music for dancers i was at the desk all day all evening then went on last to play for 2 hours, when everyone went we took down the pa drove back got home about 2.30am two things Pi@@ed me off the club was earning a fair bit at the bar and would not contribute , we had to pay for food and drinks, even soft drinks. end of the night packing away the gear we asked for two glasses of coke and was told the bar was shut. Reading about the event in the local rag there was no mention of the effort we did only about the club and the organiser's patting themselves on the back. That was my last ......unless, as Smurfitt says we do it ourselves

Try this.. two mics and a realist. 1) bridge pickup through some sort of preamp ( i use my amek 9098) into desk. 2)one mic, your rho, 0r the behringer valve T47 ( ignor the boffins its £90 and sounds great) place that about a foot or so away from from the strings above the bridge 3) good old sm58 as close as you can get to where your fingers pluck. record your track.. then when mixing use the click of the sm58 from your fingers as a sort of compression the rise/attack time will be sharper/ faster than other two mikes and tighten up the track, you can mix this in as wanted the t47 will give you the warmth and abit of the room, and your transducer will give you the woodiness, once you have all 3 tracks down you can do all sorts, try this ,, roll off all the treb and mid from one mic and roll off all the bass and half mid boosting the treb from another mic and hay presto a sort of crossover between the two then blend in the other mic as needed, as said you can do allsorts with this tecnique all good fun.

Buy and use a circuit breaker best £8 you can spend. you gear might be good but the wiring in some venues is HORRENDOUS. Thought it might be a good idea to have a tips section as i am sure all of us will have at least one we could all use. ok, to get the ball rolling, im going to give mine i have been using for years now and is very handy regarding leads. i hire and do the band pa and i got sick of trying to find what lead goes where in the spaghetti. Cure.. next time you or the kids throw away felt tip pens take out the refill and slice the pen into 7mm (ish) rings put a slit down the edge, these then you can wrap around either ends of leads ( not all the same colour ! HA) hay presto, no more wondering what that is in the multicore box. you can even group your leads, example, brass section yellow rings 1ring on one, two on the other, 3 on another EASY your welcome
