http://www.bectu.org.uk/news/1761 As a regular user of channel 38 wireless equipment, there doesn't seem to be any any problems. As far as being a "real mess", I wouldn't agree. I've never had any problems at all with my channel 38 gear. Channel 70 (free for all) gear that has been used in my band has not been the same - we've had a couple (e.g. not common) of gigs where the channel 70 kit has been unusable due to interference. We've since dropped the channel 70 stuff so can't comment what it is like in 2013. But the concerns as quoted from the link - Interference from 4G mobiles will also be a problem for users of radio microphones in Channel 70, which is intended for amateur operators like pub bands and churches. Interference could be an issue for professional users in Channel 38, which sits right between a future Freeview frequency, and channel 39, already used for Freeview in the Central, Meridian, Tyne Tees, and Northern Ireland areas, as well as Ayrshire and Biggin Hill. Having gigged around those areas (not Northern Ireland though), there's currently no issues that I've experienced to date... I suspect IEMs will eventually begin to emerge over the "wifi" band... but until they sort the latency (good enough for instruments but not good enough for being piped directly into your ear), I would give a wide berth. IEMs are expensive to do well, here's a useful thread for you - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/205633-in-ear-monitors-help-needed/

RAF base gig and being told what to wear
EBS_freak replied to markbunney's topic in General Discussion
Maybe wear what they what they want you to wear, then wear your stage clober for your set, then get changed back into the "required" wear...? -
Thanks again - I'm glad it seems to be being well received. There was a load of work before this was even shot, obviously during the shoot and post shoot - the storyboarding, getting the venue, getting the lighting right both out and about and during the performances, getting a stage built, the van, getting the locations to film the van (e.g. off the motorway bridge, the petrol station), getting the clothes made, sourcing the poker visors and getting the shoes made to match the tuxedos... then getting the video shot itself.. getting the raw sound mastered, then there was the long task of getting the post video shoot edit done. Madness! (I'm sure I've missed stuff out of there) You have to please every member of the band - like dropping the shot where somebody was caught picking their nose etc... I think everybody comes across well in the video - especially the guitarist who is too cool for school. Personally, I'm a bit anal with regards to getting things right, so I suppose I should say thanks to Josh and Adam at FPM, for humouring me/us... for example I was sitting there agonising over the end credits and logos for ages - that was just one bit! They didn't let on but I'm sure the band sending little requests for tweaks to the edit became a bit tiresome! The good thing is, the band shared the same vision, the video guys were really enthusiastic and bought into it, infact, everybody input to it and that helped us a lot I think... plus it was great fun making, despite the many hours it took. Pete - man, you could dep for me I'm sure! I'm not sure I could dep on your double bass though! I still can't believe that they closed half the petrol station for us to film that one scene! PS - a shorter edit is in the works.

My opinion is that you are searching for something that isn't available...! Seriously, the PJ is a beast. If you want a P, I don't understand why you wouldnt have the J option for the added versatility. I still prefer a JJ myself though.

Man, I can sympathise with this. It seems to be the curse of that style of handle. I've had ones like the ones that Alex use go, leather ones - e.g. vintage fender esque, rubber ones - the Fender "dogbone"... the only solution is the metal bars - but I know Alex has his reservations about those due to their presence inside the cabinet. On the plus side, these handles are pretty cheap to replace... so yay!
He's a cool muthaf*cker. I think my ONLY comment would be that I think it's very long for most promo applications. I think I'd want a four minute version as well, with all the dialogue and the songs as 30sec teaser clips, The long version would be for people who want to see more of the music. But hey, it doesn't really matter, it's great fun to watch and the performance and production quality is top notch Russ.
We did think about this... we have found that a lot of prospective clients have asked for more videos in the past hence the longer vid this time round. I guess a shorter cut is an option...

Glad it works for you - I'd still always want prefader for my monitor mixes though, I want control from the source.

Decent volume pedal with an insert cable.
That looks good and robust. I have one of these http://www.thomann.d...amp_amp_800.htm Still no limiter, and maybe not as well built for the road, but has 2 distinct stereo input channels which can be switched to any of the 4 stereo headphone amps, each of which has 2 x 1/4in headphone outputs. Very versatile live and in the studio, as as such, very good value if you don't mind the brand!
Hey, that's pretty useful. Can't complain at the money for that level of functionality.

Just an addition - bought some cheapy headphone mixers from Thomann - the Millenium one - for use with a headphone extension for when we have deps in. They are are good cheap option for those looking for a simple headphone amp on a budget. Annoying standard euro plug but nothing an adaptor won't fix... and you can always run on a 9v battery which will see you through a gig no problem. EDIT - these things http://www.thomann.d..._hpa_in_ear.htm But beware - they have no limiter so use at your own risk. I am running a brickwall limiter on my desk.
My band have just got into IEM.... best thing we ever did. We use a wired system to keep expenditure down. Using a 4 channel Behringer headphone amp running off a Tascan digital portastudio. I had ACS ear protector moulds made for me last year, and just converted them to IEM's.... sounds great. At present we all share one mix. We are about to advance to having our oun individual mix (care of a Behringer X2442USB Mixer) which will be a great development I think. ATB Paul.
You do realise that the Behringer mixer you talk of will only give you two mono mixes? - so only one mix more than you already have? Mask off your fingerboard. Fine wire wool. Come up shiny new and smooth.

A 31 band eq on each output point (e.g. L/R and monitors) to notch troublesome frequencies would be a good starting point.

Big, loud powerful backlines should be a thing of the past. The PA should be doing all the work. Convince your guitarist to get a small amp instead of a Marshall full stack. DI your bass amp. Run low on stage volumes. Mix your sound at the PA. Job done. Trouble is because bands have ownership issues of PAs, they invest in their own gear and not the PA... And everybody likes a big rig.

If you have an iPad, Mackie DL 1608 is also another option, with the channel count you need - wouldn't suggest it unless you already have an iPad because if you factor in the cost of an iPad, pricewise, that pushing you towards the Qu16... which is what you really want.
Did a bit of recording tonight (funnily enough, monitoring with in-ears! to get some nice "live" sounding drum tracks down for some new demos - and yes, I will post them when done!), and have taken a band decision that we should junk the digital idea for a while and just get a decent analogue desk now after all, so looks like Mixwizard 16:2 here we come unless anyone has a better idea?
We are out about once a week at the moment, but planning to plug in a scaleable outfit to include brass and more singers and some vocals/dancers to offer more varied choices, including soul, which will put us closer to the wedding/function market... all good!
Good stuff - great to hear that things are working. I love the large scale stuff - although sadly, it doesn't go out half as much as I would like. My band is usually out as the 5,6 or 7 piece. The 13 piece is a once in a blue moon affair. My desk loves that though - percussionist is 8 channels alone!

Good stuff. I shall keep you informed about the talk back success when I've given it a proper road test! - it's certainly a way to eat up channels on your desk anyway! Hows your band going anyway? You getting the gigs in you wanted yet?
