Yep I'd go with that too, you can see from lots of peoples gear lists here that they have chosen not to buy an expensive bass but rather a few or more at lower prices but you do get a wiff of snobbery with these so called high end basses. I had around 7 grands worth of rays not that long ago, I just like them! I have played almost every brand going other than dingwall and Ritter so far, none were any better built than my classic5.
That Classic 5 is nice. If I was in the market for a new bass, it would be a contender... Mind you, I've just found myself looking at Pavel instruments...
 2. Ash down sounds like Bonfire night...
 3. Is the Minnie 800D available with a rack mount kit? I think there would be a lot of call if this was 1u height 1/2u width and rackmountable. There's loads of guys interested in a lightweight pre and poweramp setup (me included). There just doesn't seem to be a good solution at the moment! In other words, something like the Amplite - but less anaemic!
 4.
I left that rather open for misquoting didn't I?!
:-p
 5.
You'd expect us to be a lot better at it after hundreds and hundreds of cabs wouldn't you?
Yes. You would.
 6.
Why? Because they're both 2X12 cabs..?
Partly... But mostly due to the physics involved in enclosure design. There's an ideal sized enclosure for 2 drivers in a box... and this is dictated by physics... So it shouldn't really come as a surprise that a similar set of drivers results in similar sized cabs.
 7.
In the picture the Berg looks twice as big... It was supposed to be something that wasn't serious, maybe not a joke but...
Ah... OK. I get ya.
 8.
How do they compare price wise?
Above - £960 at Bass Direct (thats including the 10 pounds for postage) S12T (with tweeter) at £870 (with postage - Postage and packing UK postage and packing is charged at a flat rate of £30 for small cabs (Compact/Big Baby/Midget) and £60 for large cabs, i.e. the ones with wheels (Big Twin/Super Twelve/Dubster/Super Fifteen/'69er). ) So that's £960 vs £900. (Plus Berg has come from the US and through a dealer)
 9.
The Berg is clearly a lot bigger as well :/ That would be an issue for me
Oh really. 79cm x 46cm x 38cm vs 76cm x 48cm x 34cm Of course, the similarity in dimensions shouldn't really come as a surprise.
 10.
[sub]Aye that's a good looking cab.[/sub]
The one on the left (just to clarify)
 11. [sub]Aye that's a good looking cab.[/sub]
 12.
I like my vanderkley cab , great sound , great build and finish quality , great handles......
Not a Vanderkey! Not with their inset handles and inset back panel!!
 13. Thanks for watching! Funnily enough - after it's 46 years of service, the Ampeg's handle is beginning to show signs of wear...
 14. Cool. Enjoy the new cab!
 15.
Actually lol you usually see Ashdown on tv and festivals etc hahah
It's cos the handles look ace.
 16.
What's up? Insufficient Tramadol today or what?
That's right. My bad back kills me. Must buy a BF.
 17.
I would say that I did a direct AB test of an EBS NEO 212 vs the BF S12t, and the BF was clearer, cleaner and louder. But the EBS (my cab at the time) was more aesthetically pleasing by a long way.
You see, this actually counts for a big deal. The types of bands that I am in, I don't think I would be taken seriously if I turned up with something that looked like it was knocked up from components from the Tandy catalogue. BF really needs to up it's game on that front. Are we seeing BF as a festival or tv regular? It's hunting ground is the pub. And that's great. It's a valid market. Louder? Clearer, cleaner... not in my experience? But thats where this is all subjective.
 18.
That is SO going in my sig,
Yeah. Nice one.
 19.
That was the best rig I ever had. DB750 and NV610 was pure awe.
Bit of a back breaker?
 20.
Both, thanks - AND The Three Billy Goats Gruff. There's a troll in it, if I remember rightly.
I don't think that troll is interested in these goats though.
 21.
In that case you might have put less time and effort into explaining your beliefs to us.
Pah ha!
 22.
I think it is ok to have a say about a product if that product came straight out of the makers showroom. The fact that it may have been a demo bass should not really come into it, as far as I can see. It is a walking advert for the product, and at shows, I would expect it to get seen and heard by a LOT of people ..not least a lot of people with influence in the industry.. I just don't get how you can let anything like that pass off as a premium product with your name on it. I only know what I have read..and seen, on here, but that sounds like a massive hole in foot job to me..??? Demo bass... and discount price is one thing... but people need to know that and company records should record that. I understand how hard that would be one one man bands...!!!! but I also think it is very hard to get a premo reputation and how easy it is to loose it. Virul is just a few clicks away, these days...
Indeed. One of my fave luthiers has a bass that I am desperate that he sell to me. He won't. Why? Well, it's his show bass. And? Well... it's built out of a load of sh1tty offcuts that have been glued together and then shaped and sprayed. I don't care. I just want to play it! Well... if that bass was ever sold, and it was ever refinished and it was seen that it was made with a load of offcuts, it would bring into question every other bass he had ever made. He's confident that any other bass could be refinished.... but he won't let this show bass out for this very reason, despite having been offered thousands for it by numerous people. And that's defending your brand.
 23.
Probably the best and most succinct summary. I've heard that Ashdown make really, really good handles.
Use really, really good handles... fireproof too.
 24.
Pre TBT?
Indeed!
 25. Is this still going on? I can sympathise with both sides. A "failed" handle which has failed in it's cosmetic appearance is open for debate. For example, I am sure that there would be a few Ferrari owners raising a few eyebrows if their otherwise mechanically sound vehicles were developing paint blemishes or rust. In this case however, the handles are subject to use and hence wear and tear... but conversely are cheap to change - and Alex seems to be willing to ship new ones out. Umm...?
