  1. So. I made a bass a couple if years ago from scratch. It turned out ok but the body was far far far too heavy and the finger board wasn't very well radiused. This time I am going for a P bass look with Wizard PJ pups and scratch plate harking back to 51 - 56 era. So a bit of a mish mash. Body is mahogany in 3 pieces and I will chamber it this time to reduce weight. Neck will be hard rock maple and hopefully some sweet Birdseye maple for the finger board. Today I made up a body template shape and tomorrow I will cut the pup areas in it. Fingers crossed I make good headway with this one.
  2. Two things for me that make me a natures born bassist. All of my friends at school played guitar. I have freaking big hands that make me clumsy with a guitar, though when I do pick one up it grooves.
  3. Was browsing YouTube a few minutes ago, searching for demos of old Pbasses and stumbled across Bobby Vega. I had heard his name before (I think) but know nothing about him. What I picked up from a couple of demo videos is that I really like his groove and even more so that he didn't come across super flashy or super fast ...just GROOVY. Just watching those two videos has made me want to practice more, especially with a pick. Also, who can recommend some listening for the best of his playing?
  4. Jeez, it's still cracking and I am still going on that holiday. Can't believe a bass this beautiful is still in here!
  5. My wrist hurts like hell when I play and apparently I have carpal tunnel syndrome. However, I just can't bring myself to stop!
  6. I played along to stuff for years, recorded some stuff with a friend for years which we distributed amongst our friends. Then we both joined a band and are about to play our first live gig I'm something like 25 years!
  7. Feel free to come and support my first ever gig on October 18th which is also my bands first ever gig. It is for Glasgow OxJam and will be at a venue TBC on Sauchiehall St in Glasgow. www.soundcloud.com/sulasula-1
  8. Does the gain knob on these bring in any overdrive? If it does, to cut through, I would keep my gain lower than volume on the preamp. I would also get rid of the mid cut. I had the very same problem with my Streamliner, had a great sound that I liked to play around with but that sound didn't work when up against three guitars.
  9. Currently have a Genz Benz Strealiner 600 and a focus 210 which holds on to 300 watts at 8 ohms. I will find out what the set up is like at the venue when I know what the venue is!
  10. Oh, this would probably rockabilly with my Streamliner 600. Not got the cash though Very good luck with the sale.
  11. Replacement gig alert! We are now playing our debut gig in support of OxJam Glasgow on 18th October. Hopefully this one doesn't bite the dust like the last charity gig we signed up to. Don't know the venue yet or exactly how long, but do know it is somewhere on Sauchiehall St. A weekend too which means I can have a celebratory drink afterwards. Thanks for all your kind words. The world of bass is such a pleasant place to be. Now. Do I need to get another cab! Cheers Garry
  12. A while back I bought a Genz Streamliner and a Focus 210 cab. Had the intention of getting another cab to compliment the first one, but since Genz Benz went bust dunno what would be the best way forward. So, the question would be, another Focus 210 on the second hand market if one ever comes up, OR can someone suggest a cab that would compliment my Genz Focus 210t? Cheers Garry
  13. And....it has been cancelled. Problems between the promoter and venue.........BASTARD!
  14. I have a Streamliner 600 which I bought after looking at the Orange too. You say you are concerned at not getting the "tubey" sound at low volumes. On the Streamliner the pre amp controls are independent of the master volume control so I can dial in the grit I want even at low volumes. The fan on mine is really quiet too. Plus the other features the Streamliner has over the Terror win it for me. Headphones, Aux in, excellent do with switchable level, pre and post eq, etc... If you can find one I would definitely try it out. If you want to hear what the di sounds like check out my bands work in progress page on soundcloud...search for Guitarmaggedon and listen to "Simmer"

  16. I want to build one of these. Have the carpentry skills and tools, have a streamliner 600 and a gb focus 210 cab...hopefully this would be a great partner. Look forward to the plans.....awesome work, knowledge and communication right here.
  17. Them Crooked Vultures...Scumbag Blues. Any QOTSA recent hits.
  18. I kinda like Vertical Horizon too. They are one of Neil Pearts favourites, and he played on a couple of tracks on their latest album.
  19. Thanks so much for your posts gents.
  20. Recorded onto an 8 track then sent to a pc running QBase. When I get to the other guitarists house with that pc I will ask him to check. Thanks very much.
  21. Ola. Have recorded some tracks using di + Mic. Now, I have read that I should invert phases, or something like that, to get away from a slightly hollow sound caused by slight differences in signal from each. Can someone enlighten me as to how you go about this? I don't have a Scooby and my main, guitarist, man doesn't think we need to. However, I guess we won't know if we have to unless we try it and notice any differences. Thanks for any helpful comments that come my way...
  22. Thanks for all off these comments chatters. Have success so far, though need to look at how to phase invert, or something!
  23. Wowzer. I want it, can't afford it. It is also my year of birth bass. I we weren't going on the ski trip of a lifetime trip for my 40th...
  24. I play much better when I am sweaty...will I do star jumps before I go on?! Actually, that's a good point...how do you all prepare before you go on on a multi band night? How to stay calm, focused and cool?!
