1.
All sounds good - I now just have to fine one
GuitarGuitar in Glasgow have one.
2. Me tooooo!
Or the cabs, I'm desperate for another focus 2/10
3. I have a Streamliner 600 which I love. When I bought it I would quite happily have bought an Aguilar 500 and I think I had considered the GK Fusion 500. Both would probably make you happy. Also, how about the Carvin 500. Cheers Garry
4. I played a Nate Mendel for a while whilst bass shopping last weekend. Tried it against various P basses and an Aerosyne Jazz. Vs the Jazz I would say the neck is slightly wider at the nut. Enough to make it playable for me, I found the Jazz strings too close around frets 1 - 4. The NM neck is also lovely to slide your left hand up and down. Unlike you, I was put off by the roadworn finish, personal preference. Up close, there are light scratches all over the body that you can't see in the marketing photos. I thought it looked like someone had taken a piece of fine sandpaper over the body, rather than natural wear and tear. I also preferred the pickups on the classic 50's, standard, etc... over the NM. The NM pickups are much higher output and come over all aggressive to my ears. That may also be your preference and if you already have other basses to go to, give you a wider selection of tones to play around with. The NM did feel lovely in the hands though.
5. Gave it a run out at Rehearsal this evening and am absolutely delighted with it. Compared to my G&L it has authority, a real kick in the arse whilst being all nice and gooey at the same time. It ways way less too, I think, and the neck is excellent. Will need more time to tinker with amp settings to get the absolute best out of it, but so far I could hear everything I played very well, even when I turned it down a bit. Will need to find a hard case for it. Also, sounds amazing through my boss odb3 with Monte Allums mod. Much smoother than my G&L. Probably the less hot pickups going in that have made the difference there. Can't wait til next rehearsal now!

Happy new bass day. I just cured my Precision GAS as the weekend too after wanting one for years and years. They sound lovely don't they?! Don't go changing the pick gaurd yet, do it later and it'll be like having a new bass again.
7. Just been noodling on mine for the past hour or so. Absolutely fantastic. Love the way it sounds with my Streamliner. Such a range of tones from the very simple tone control. Love the weight compared to my G&L l2000 tribby. Will also try and take some better pictures. I managed to find one with some interesting grain on the neck. Can't wait for rehearsal tomorrow.
8. Had my FIRST EVER GIG last weekend and absolutely loved it. Only stuffed up once, totally forgot which song we were in the middle of, a bit of a "special" moment. Found my way back after a second or two. Laughs from lead guitarist. Crowd was ace, about 50 or so, no heckling, and some dancing / clapping along. Great stuff as we are doing originals and it was the first time thu had been heard. Venue was 13th Note in Glasgow. Sound guy was easy to talk to and apparently we sounded good out front. Found I could hear myself quite well on stage using my amp as monitor... That was my biggest fear before hand. Next gig in late spring/ summer. We have new songs brewing. Support came from the excellent Dark Arts and The Minionz.

10. Hi Walbasist. And everyone else, sure is nice to hold in the hands. Where did you get your scratch plates from? I am considering swapping the bridge over. I have a gotoh 201b kicking around. Think it should swap ok. Will have rehearsal tomorrow night then get a review in here. Cheers

12. Evening. Returned home this afternoon with a huge smile on my face after buying a Fender American Special Precision. Went in to the shop with an open mind, as long as it was a Fender P! The guy in GuitarGuitar was very helpful and led me downstairs to the "nice" guitar room and plugged me into one of those Heritage Ampeg portaflex jobs. What a lovely sounding amp. Anyway, tried a standard men, a Nate Mendel, an American Standard and a Classic 50's as well as the American Special I left with. It was the neck, it's lovely. Much nicer for my large hands than the Nate Mendel. Was surprised how much I liked the Classic 50's. Would happily have taken that home too. The Special sounded just as sweet as the American Standard and the necks felt roughly identical. Lovely satin finish. Now, how do I add a photo on my mobile?
13. Hi Funky Dunky. Hadn't thought about another G&L as already have an l2000. If I see one I will try one.
14. Thanks to everyone for the time it took to get back to this. I am fairly open as to which I get, even tried some jazzes and the aerodyne FSR. The Jazz neck felt too narrow for my big paws and the aerodyne appeared to be very well put together and its neck felt a bit more playable than the Jazz I tried. Anyhow, fairly certain it'll be a P. I am off to Italy skiing on Saturday for a week, have my first gig the week after I get back then I will be able to get shopping. Hadnt really considered the 50s option, seemed to fly under my radar for some unknown feedback, so will make sure I try a couple of those too. I play through a Streamliner, should I take it along when I try them out? G
15. Hi all. Having successfully saved and been gifted some vouchers, now have enough money to buy a new P Bass, probably from GuitarGuitar(vouchers). Out of the lot there appear to be some Aesthetic favourites and I have tried some acoustically but not plugged in. Genre is mainly rock. Which would be top of your list, and why, of the following? Nate Mendel P Bass American Special P Bass Standard P Bass 50's P Bass Deluxe Active P Special Or anything else that I should consider. I know there will be some Fender haters along and I know some will say "just go and try them all", which I will anyway. But If anyone has a pearl of wisdom or two then that'd be swell. Anything to avoid ( except, all of them coz they be Fender) out of that lot? Thanks for any pointers and feedback.
16. Hi Caneron. That's be ace. There will be another two bands playing too, I know one of them. Their bass player, Jon, is excellent.
17. I have an orange flame maple top one and it is in perfect condition. Had it from new about 10 years ago. Think the body is basswood though rather than alder. My mates clubbed together and bought it for me for my birthday when I was off around the world. I like it, maple neck and rosewood board. Fit and finish are really really good for the price point. Could never get it to sound anything other than bass heavy, always struggled to get it to record with top end coming through.
18. So, cut long story short. Had first gig lined up with new (first) band last Sept, a charity gig that fell through due to promotor issues. Then in December had a gig fall through as drummer rushed to hospital with broken heart and guitarist broke his arm. Anyhow, now we're all set for our first gig at The 13th Note in Glasgow on the 21st of Feb. looking forward to it and the nerves haven't kicked in YET. Has anyone played there with any tips? Is my Streamliner through one 210 cab good enough for monitor? Think I will be D.i into the PA. Cheerio garry

20.
If I could turn two knobs on this mix I would make the bass drum as loud as the snare drum; then raise the bass guitar to exactly the same level. Even-Steven is my motto. The top drums sound fine.
Thanks for the feedback. I will pass it on to the mixmaster. Our drummer is poorly at the moment so wasn't able to make the mixing session. We have another planned for when his health returns.
21.
I really liked it. The bass for me did not stand out in any negative way. In fact I would say it contrasted and complimented the song perfectly. The mix is a bit demoish but I can never tell if that's soundcloud compressing the crap out of it or what. Sounds good to me.
Yeh, positivity. If basschat had an "add friend" button I would add yours. Thanks v much. Though, "perfectly" is a bit strong, I am no John Paul Jones.
22. Excellent looking and, no doubt, sounding bass there. Good luck.
23.
You *did* state that it's a demo though. Unless you want to use it to publicise your band, instead of just help folks remember the arrangement, then I wouldn't worry about it.
Our music is really for our pleasure. I don't think we are in the game to make it big. Quite happy making music and having fun. If others like it then that is a bonus! It has been a great bit of learning for me, having never played in a band before. I just want it to be as good as I can get it. Mind you, that'd take a heap more practice than I legitimately have time for!
