1. An 18mm ply cab with less bracing will not behave the same way as a 12mm ply can with more bracing. But can we hear the difference? Some clever person on here might know. I would still go for a slightly trickier 12mm braced design. A project is a project after all.
2. Would it not be Righty Tighty in this case?
3.
There's one a bit closer to me who say on their website they have a range of speciality plywoods, so I could give them a ring too. Is the Chinese poplar core ply worth a look, or should it be the European stuff?
I am in Bo'ness Beerman. I think Walker Timber can do Poplar.

6. I'd go for thinner ply with a bit more bracing and circular ports. Depends on how you planned to build the slot port, but I would say it's easier to measure and mark the centre point for a circle than it is to line up measurements on three or four pieces of ply for the slot. Also, more bracing might give more long term stability than less bracing on a slightly thicker piece of ply. If you still want a 3d model and working drawing produced just let me know.
7. Well done. An amazing gift. You must have good, no, great friends. Out of interest, who are the band? Nice guys deserve a listen to.
8. You could donate it to the school I work in. They struggle to get decent equipment. A bit far away. Donate it to a local school. Tonnes of kids here are getting into bass, guitar and drums.
9. James Gang, Funk 49. Thought it would be a 'mare for my middling ability but actually found it very pleasing and not too difficult.
10. Managed to have a wee play with my Bass Soul Food last night, using my Anerican Special Precision and my Streamliner. Absolutely delighted with it. The blend knob is the key. Had that just about 11oclock, drive about 1 o'clock and treble about 2 o'clock. Added some weight to the signal and brought a nice slight overdrive to the sound. Harmonics sounded more prominent. Excellent with a pick. Will see how we go at practice tonight.
11. Nice one. Good wee review. I ordered mine on Amazon on Friday and it got here on Saturday, by way of HotRox. Will plug it in tonight with the headphones and tomorrow night at rehearsal. One of the pluses, I hope, is the prominent mid, which I hope will send me a bit more forward in the mix. I play through a Genz Benz Streamliner with a GL L2000 or a P bass. Will let you know how it goes. Cheers.
12. Thanking you. Yeah, the fret buzz was probably more of a problem in my head than for anyone else! You must have an encyclopaedic knowledge of music to be able to point out examples of features like that!
13. On the drums. We did mess them up royally so had to get back in to the rehearsal room to record them all again. Second time around worked much better, though the snare was still a wee bit droney.
14. Thanks folks. Means a lot to hear the opinion of experienced musicians, or even interested listeners. The mastered stuff comes across better, especially from the bass side of things. Soundcloud seems to loose some of the detail. As I said, it's been fun and we are learning. We only meet every 2 or 3 weeks so it's been kept fresh as well as making some excellent progress. We are full of ideas and no one is boss. All good.
15. Please ignore this post. I have found the correct location to share Soundcloud pages.
16. Good evening. Here is the link to our stuff we have just put up on Soundcloud. We recorded, wrote (the vast majority, 2 covers), recorded, mixed and mastered it all ourselves. We have had great fun doing it and are now writing for the next batch. www.soundcloud.com/sulasula-1 For my bass recording, most of the songs were D.I. From my Genz Streamliner 600. Three were right to the desk from my bass. A G&L L2000. There are three guitars and drums. We messed up the drums, especially the snare, but it is the first time we have done it so they aren't too shabby. Most importantly we have had a blast doing it and it has got us out of the house on a Tuesday night, to Paul's Halls in Cumbernauld where we rehearse. Now looking to do a gig in July before baby number 2 arrives. Anyway, please listen and enjoy our tunes if you are into our style. Cherry bye

18. Thanks Funkgod. I will pass that advice on next time we record. Anyway, it's taken us longer than we would have liked, due robust all being part time hobbyists, health issues in the band, etc... but we did some mastering today and came up with this lot. Mostly originals, 2 covers. www.soundcloud.com/sulasula-1 Have a listen and hope you enjoy.
19. Just read this post on Talkbass today, sorry for straying, and the actual engineer that designed it spilled the beans on most of the changes over the standard Soul Food. Seems quite comprehensive. http://www.talkbass.com/threads/new-ehx-bass-soul-food.1125816/page-2
20.
What's the switch like on this? Is it quite clunky? I had the sparrow pedal, which I used as an always on preamp. Sounded amazing but the switch made that massive thud when used...
The switch is absolutely fine. Smooth and precise. Doesn't come through as audible at all.
21.
Had the same problem with my Boss Overdrive a few weeks ago.I pulled the Boss ODB-3 Overdrive and replaced it with the $69.00 Dr.J Soloman Overdrive. I really like it, it's easy to use and gives me a warm grit/crunch. Blue
Ha. Same here. It's my ODB3 I am struggling with, and that's after doing the Monte Allums mod. It helped a bit but not enough. It has a sparkling mid to high gain OD sound now though. Very responsive and useable at those settings.
22. Think I am likening the reviews of the bass soul food, and the price. House move imminent so bass soul food would sit nicely in my life mix and hopefully nicely in the band mix. The blend knob seems important to me for retaining the bottom end. Will report back once I click "buy now" and get a chance at rehearsal next week. Thanks for the replies everyone. pS: just noticed a new Bass Soul Food thread in "effects" and it's getting love there.
23. Thanks very much Paul. Will listen after nippers bath.
24. Does anyone have any sound clips of their DHA kit? Hadn't even thought of them?
25. Hi. Fed up with my Old drive pedal. Looking for one that has a lovely warm smooth (not metallic) character but will also retain a bit of definition and oomph. Budget would be just north of £100. Mostly, like ALL, rock of an alt and classic nature. Want to use it as always on (for majority of songs) and be able to crank it up for the odd aggressive bit.
