Well, had her at first rehearsal last night and boy did she blow away all expectations. I’ve been looking for something to cut through with three guitarists for years, without just blindly turning the volume up. With the Ampeg SGT pedal plugged in to effects return of a beringer head into a trace Elliot 4-10, this sounded brilliant. Articulate. Punchy. Clear. Love my Pbasses but this Stingray is what I should have been playing all along. It really is a thing to behold!!! Also, felt lovely in the hands and due to the ergonomics I found using a pick with palm mute much easier than ever. only thing to work on is that the gloss neck became minutely sticky with hard work and sweat…what’s the best remedy for that? (Without running the finish off) Thanks to the previous keeper of this bass for keeping her in such good shape too.

Here she is in all her glory. Will take some more photos tomorrow when the light is better. Stingray Classic from 2011. Lake Tahoe Blue with an ebony fretboard and birdseye maple neck. Stunning instrument. Beautiful condition. Only issue is the nut seems cut a little high on the E string. Maybe it’s just me, I’m only used to P basses. This thing is solidly built and the finish is amazing. Was thinking about a Stingray Special with blue body and ebony neck, but when this popped up at bassbros I had to have it. delighted. Plugged in to my Ampeg SGT DI and it’s sounding mighty.

Well, apparently they did try and deliver it today but there was nobody in. Funny thing is my mother in law was waiting patiently for its arrival and said there was no know at the door. So, it’s away on its holidays to another depot somewhere for re-delivery tomorrow. Bugger. They didn’t even leave it at the local PO or neighbour.

Well, it would be NBD if it wasn’t still sitting in the parcelforce hub instead of being delivered on time!! The suspense is killing me!!

Stingray over the years…what to know before buying?

Thanks for all the knowledge and humour. I’ve decided to go for a beautiful Stingray Classic 4H 2eq from 2011. Weighs in at 9.2lbs so maybe not the lightest but not the heaviest either. It should be with me next week, at which point I’ll do the obligatory NBD thread. There was an option for a Special at the same price, but I loved the aesthetics and the wood selection of the one I’ve gone for. Happy days. -
Great stuff. I’m about to join you in Stingray ownership, after thinking about buying one for about 20 years I’ve actually gone and done it now! When you are figuring out the tone controls let us know how you get on as I’ll be on the same journey.

Hi everyone. Before I ask, I’ve looked for a thread but can’t find one, so if anyone can’t point me in that direction it might save time? Looking to pick up a used Music Man Stingray in the next few months. I’m definitely looking for a 4H, whether be a 2eq, 3eq, Classic or Special. I’m sure I’d be happy with any of the above. My question really is, is there a timeline of any changes around: - the neck size and shape…have they been fairly standard over the years? - the weight…are there years to avoid with Uber heavy lumps of wood? - the pickups, are there major changes in certain years to different magnets and tones? Cheers, and yeah, if anyone knows of a place where this is already answered please point out👍 Cheers!

Yep, sounds cracking. At rehearsals Guitarists in band have mentioned it has better oomph and sounds better than my Genz Benz amp. That’s plugged in to effects return on provided amp.

First night at rehearsal last night with the Sgt. Loved it. I took my bass and the Sgt in the gig bag pocket along with a couple of cables. Usually have an head and cab too. plugged the Sgt in to the effects return of a Beringer head on top of a beringer 810. Set the pre level then SVT level and grit amount. Played around with the bass level and mid frequency a bit during the first couple of songs but then mostly left it alone. Sounded dynamic, punchy and clear. Band does rock originals with three guitarists. on way to rehearsal bought a battery for my tuner and plugged that in to the through output of the Sgt. No wine at all and a great portable setup. Combined with the initial recordings I did over the weekend using the IR, couldn’t be happier.

I was wondering about this too. Is it best to set the preamp level first, using the dial on the left. Then engage the SGT and match its level using the right hand control. Then engage the IR and set its level to match using its own volume control?

Only a tuner and compressor. Even with the Ampeg on its own power supply and the others on their own OneSpot daisy chain it was an issue. Will try an isolated power supply to see if that cures it. I see the Ampeg provided power supply has one of those hum reducing lumps on the cable, so they must know it is sensistive.

Had first play with new arrival last night. Just a bit if practice through headphones. First rehearsal in coming week. Love the sound of this thing and seems very versatile once I work out all the bells and whistles. Two things I have questions about though… 1) seems really sensitive to hum. Couldn’t use it in a chain (even using different power supplies) with my Seymour Duncan compressor and snark tuner. Even when it was disconnected from the chain and using totally different power supplies, when I touched metal on either the Ampeg or the other pedals the hum disappeared. Ground lift just gave me a different frequency of hum. Is it just the case that my house has noisy electric supply?! I’ll need to use this to record at home, and in rehearsal with a chain, so will report back when I’ve had the chance in those situations. 2) The ir selection really does make this sound a pleasure to play through, though a balance of volume across the selection would be nice. When you choose between the different cab sims the volume changes. Also, the dial has a bit of “no volume” when turning them all of a sudden gives a big jump in volume. Maybe something I can adjust when I get it plugged in to the software?!

Totally understand this pedal is designed for us bass players, but, has anyone loaded a guitar cab in to the ir loader and played a guitar through it? Did the Stones use Ampeg amps early days?

Superb looking bass. Try a MIJ PB 62Ri as mine is way lighter than my American made precision. Lovely neck too and the pickups seem to have more character in them. -
Not forgetting that our very own flag can be linked to any number of atrocities throughout the last few centuries. There’s just as much slave trade history with our own country as with this flag.
