7. Just wanted to say a collective thanks to everyone on here After reading a few threads and digesting some pretty cool stories, info and lovely pics of gear, i felt the urge to get my Shuker out the case and have a play... That was two hours ago... one of those practice sessions and you look up at the clock and time has just disappeared and you're arn't even done yet! Great stuff people J
 8. if you want "sparkle" you need something with better tweeters in... if thats the kinda sparkle you mean... i dunno. i'm used to glassy markbass cabs If you want growl, try something mid heavy, and maybe with some 12" speakers in

 10. Haha thats the missing dicking about lol
Yeah Yolanda ..... I agree, a tastefully applied small amount of slap can add to a tune, too much can spoil it. IMHO Mark King is in a different department totally as he is playing the instrument as tuned percussion. That video is nice but really I think you just wanted us to read the latest comment on your channel: " lodinsen (2 weeks ago) you're hot! "
11. Check out my youtube channel below, i've got a great live track of Prince's in my favourites, a great example of how slapbass doesn't have to be the central part of a song or arrangement. Youtube channel link in my signature (video is called jay leno 02")
 12. if you decide to go the VMJ route check this out http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...me=STRK:MESE:IT

 15. My Church has instruments... but not ones you'd want to admit to owning lol!! Really encouraging to see so many church players on here, playing in worship bands has been my number one learning environment, am always gonna be grateful for the oppotunities i have had playing at christian festivals/churches/events etc...
 16.
Thanks for all the responses.. I'm kind of interested in anyones stories of how their playing has changed in response to changes in action.. i think we can agree that action is completely personal, and people generally have the action set how it suits them...
Ignored i consider this thread hijacked lol

 18.
I think I probably was the culprit. I used to have a pretty low action, and it started to get lower and lower. Eventually, even though the strings rang unhindered, they had no... life. I raised the action and my basses began to sing again.. the notes were BIG. At a gig I genuinely don't feel they're any harder to play. I haven't looked back.
exactly like me mate, am really looking forward to my rehearsal tommorrow
 19.
What about that pope eh? j/k. Another benefit of higher action is if you play with envelope-following effects, you can get a much broader range out of them without ending up with manky string noise.
thats a really good point, never even thought about that... perhaps i'll look into all the envelope filters ive discarded int the past lol
 20. if i caused any offence i'm sorry, any comments i may or may not have made were purely self derogatory and aimed to make people chuckle
 21. does this mean i've been blacklisted for crimes against basschat?
 22.
Bollocks to it I'm a wuss - I love my action low and light - fighting the bass is a pointless exercise for me. Admitedly my action is very low but it's not as low as some players I know, I think it's all about the end result, ie does it sound good and are you comfortable while playing? Damaging tendons, fingers and wrists to 'be a man' is just silly, so do what feels good and suits you best, not out of some misguided macho attitude. Just my 0.02 Euros... M
the time to be a man bit was a joke lol... when i say the actions gone up, its probably a few millimetres, so its not like i'm fighting for every single note.. far from it. But its enough to make a difference to the sound, never knew so little could do so much
 23. Anyone who has had a bass off here from me, or has een me play will know im a complete wuss, and have my action so low its frankly quite ridiculous. For example, should i lean back whilst playing on stage, gravity causes all my strings to choke themselves out. However, today i went into the bass tech where i work, and said, "bring up the action". So he did, and to be honest, i feel faster, more accurate, more comfortable... the tone of the bass has improved no end, and i'm pulling stuff off that has been foxing me for ages... Really am very happy, anyone else been through this?
 24. headstock is amazing.. wish my horn bass had the same one
