Well, it's been a while now but it was for sure that head pictured on either a 4x10 and 1x15 or a pair of 4x10's, both Peavey, What can I tell you? I used it for an hour set and despite my making constant adjustments couldn't get anything good out of it. I'm not looking for anything unusual from a bass amp and would have expected it to sound ok through those cabs. They might be ok and I was maybe unlucky but if I were to buy one - which I won't - I'd want to give it a good test run first and through the cab or cabs I'd be using it with. If you buy one new and online I guess you could always send it back if it didn't suit you. For the record, I don't have a beef with all the Peavey gear I've used over the years and I'm used to using house rigs and getting what I need out of 'em.

I'm undecided. It's the finishing touch and I don't want to spoil the ship for a ha'porth of tar.... You get what you pay for.

Yea, I tried that but it wouldn't cooperate!

I've been looking for some bits for a PJ project I've got going on. Was going to go for the old 70's bullet adjustment, just for the look of it really. I've changed me mind now... I know stuff is likely to get more expensive following Brexit, but, Jesus... Truss Hot Rod Nut For STRATOCASTER TELECASTER Guitar, Bullet, Allen Head _ eBay.html

Well - and it's early days yet - it doesn't seem to. I've used it with a few different amps including a GK400RB, and best policy seems to be to set the amps' controls more or less flat and use the TH as the main EQ and as the DI, if you're going into a PA. Of course, like all of us, I haven't done many gigs of late and have by no means fully explored the TH's potential. To be honest I only realised how good the Aguilar was when I heard this recording from the Summer which is the TH going to the desk and the Gk and 2x12 serving as monitoring onstage. I don't know if it's the particular sound you'd want - probably not - but it sounds like a bass to me!

I feel your pain. It's worth considering getting the Tone Hammer pedal and keeping the GK on, though. I got one earlier this year and use it as a pre-amp and DI. Currently getting the tone of my life, frankly. The Tone Hammer is quite subtle in its effect. I only realised how great it was when I heard a live recording from earlier in the year.

If it's any help at all, I used one of these at a festival last year and it was a bit stinky poo, frankly. I'm not precious about house rigs and I hope I'm not a gear snob but this item fell short on every measure.

How much of the Ampeg sound is the amp and how much the cab?
shug replied to la bam's topic in Amps and Cabs
I used an old SVT head and cab - the head was around '74 and the cab was earlier still - for many years and can tell you for sure that the cab is a HUGE part of that sound. Once, when the head was in for repair (again), I drove the cab with the amp section from an ancient 150w Peavey Renown tranny guitar combo and it still sounded like an SVT. I was almost disappointed, to be honest... Those 4-box sealed 8x10's are KILLER cabs. -
Got me some nice Gotoh tuner off this fella. Easy transaction, as described, decent price, good comms. Deal with confidence... Shug

I love it! Bit steep at £403,mind. If he lived nearer we'd be friends...

In further news, I've just sourced the same stuff, locally and for immediate supply, at half the price. A cancellation call in the morning, I think...

I've ordered the ply from a firm in Falmouth. Can't say I'm massively impressed: I ordered it on the 23rd April and when I chased it up yesterday they were quoting a despatch date of 25th May. Really bloody expensive,too... I got the ply cut to size. I've built a couple of cabs before and the hardest part is cutting the stuff accurately without at least a proper table saw or preferably CNC table. A circular or jigsaw just don't cut the mustard, no matter how steady a hand you have in my experience. I've always used a local firm but they were shut for the duration. Of course, they have since re-opened...*sigh* It's a 1212Sub that I'm making so no crossover involved. I figured if I need to I can add a horn and crossover post build. Looking at the response curve I don't think it'll be needed, though. So, I'm kinda twiddling my thumbs now 'til the ply arrives. I've cut all the bracing from some 12mm ply I had in stock so this company are just doing the main panels. I'll keep you informed Shug

. Blimey! ''Jaco on the slide,''eh? I wouldn't mind hearing something extraordinary, then... I, too ,find such an excess of facility somewhat unsettling but I fear you may be clutching at straws there. I think the young fella could do my gig but I'm not sure the opposite would apply.

The best sounding basses on this planet?
shug replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
I quite fancy one of these. Kinda quirky and interesting. I'm friends with the guy on Facebook, somehow, and he is dead cool.At least the fella's doing something original. I'd take one of these over one of the big guys' soulless items at 10x the price. Long may he roll, I say Shug -
Lockdown mania continues to tighten its grip... I've been mulling it over for years having, as I do, an Ent-like aversion to hasty-ness, and so last night I ordered the Russian birch ply needed to make me a Fearful 2x12 cab. I've got a lovely old Traynor Custom Special head that needs a mate and this looks like the very thing. It's likely to be a longish term project. I'll keep y'all informed. Photos and that if I can manage it. Though I'll have to tidy up me unit... Any of you good folks out there done one of these? All input welcomed. All Regards and Keep Safe, Comrades! Shug

I don't usually chip in with the 'lovely bass, GLWTS' schtick, but be aware that G&L basses are the real deal in every regard. This bass will knock ANY Fender bass into the middle of next week. Or is it last week? Whatever... Fabulous piece o' stuff. Hell, even that ugly/pretty headstock got charm... Lovely bass, GLWTS, as I rarely say... Shug (Devoted Fender bass player since 1975)

Eek! 'Harder playing'? Don't like the sound of that
