  1. I bloody hope not, I just won a squarnch on eBay.
  2. It WAS a squinch and not before time! She's been known to follow-through. Sorry, this probably isn't going the way you intended.
  3. The current mrs discreet's ârse, this morning.
  4. All good advice, but being impatient, I'd go with NJE and Ed_S - negotiate for a partial refund while fixing the screw hole with glue and sticking the PCB to a blob of Blu-Tack. But that's just me. And them.
  5. *SOLD* Caline Orange Burst (Xotic BB Clone) Boost and EQ pedal. Influenced by the Xotic BB Preamp, but with its own twist. More warmth and boost than you'll ever need. True bypass. Solid metal enclosure. Bought for recording guitar, but superseded by my DAW effects, so now surplus to requirements. Also warms up a sterile or flat-sounding bass amp a treat for next to nothing! EQ is powerful and Gain adds a nice warmth if used sparingly - obviously it will overdrive too, if that's what you want. Original box, packing and instructions. In excellent condition all round and hardly used. £15 Posted to your atelier. Payment via bank transfer, please. Item will be well-packed and despatched via an appropriate method. I will PM details and an ETA to the Buyer. I thank you!
  6. Good advice. I found that applying a DIY decal to a white headstock helps a lot with this!
  7. They ARE the business. I had a Hayman 4040 with dual splits and it sounded amazing. The Elite Ps from the 80s have the same configuration and are monsters by all accounts. If only I didn't have to pay any bloody bills this month! Massive Revelation Dual Split P GAS is raging!
  8. I've just done my first DIY decal with waterslide inkjet paper. It's a bit different from using commercial decals, but it is quite possible to get good results. Took me a couple of goes, but once I got the hang of it everything was fine. Just like anything else, really. Main difference is that after printing you need to spray the decal with nitro or acrylic clear coat so that the inks don't smear when you place it in water. My first effort went tits-up because I didn't apply enough clear. After that it was all good. Will definitely be doing my own from now on.
  9. Like me, you probably thought they were entirely fantastic and original. Then later in life, thought... 'Meh'.
  10. That's pretty much my criterion for everything. If you don't compromise you don't do anything.
  11. This one, I like. The one in the OP, not so much as a playing bass. But I can see why you'd want to buy it and stick it on the wall - I used to collect tin toy Japanese robots from the 50s - 70s, so can sympathise totally...
  12. Quite. I mean, Emerson, Lake & Palmer..? What was I thinking??
  13. Nothing actually wrong with that if it's the plan. I'm just one of those people who go up to complete strangers and shout, 'You think you're better than me? Huh??' ...Actually I don't, but I think it quite a lot.
  14. Nah. Boarding school is buggery and Borstal is beating. Then buggery.
  15. Just about to mention Sandberg. But now this has reignited my Sandberg GAS. D'oh.
  16. A guitarist who understands their place in a mix is a relatively rare beast. Most of 'em think they're a 'frontsperson' in the lead role, therefore the punters have come to see and hear them (and the singer, probably). The rest of the band are just the supporting cast. Guitarists who dominate a band with volume and who refuse to turn down because they think they're great should be ground into a thick paste, which can then be used as a cheap fertilizer. So some good will come of it.
  17. The current mrs discreet is delighted when I'm rehearsing or gigging, because she can then watch all the terrible crap she's recorded on TV. Occasionally she'll come to a gig, but she tends to drink too much then stand at the back and shout 'Fùck Off!!' Which can cause friction later...
  18. It's just bloody mad that being at a super-loud gig is like spending an hour in a sheet-metal factory or hanging out on the runway at Stanstead. How is it in any way entertaining when you've paid good money to be physically assaulted in effect, and can't even properly hear the songs you came to hear? I'll take damage to a band's reputation over damage to my hearing any day of the week. I think more bands would consider playing quieter if audiences would behave themselves and actually bloody LISTEN instead of spending the entire gig talking to each other, checking their phones, videoing the gig and chucking vast amounts of booze down their necks. People just don't know how to respect performers and seem to have forgotten how to behave in public. Not very rock 'n' roll I admit, but there it is.
  19. I've got Alan's in my Bitsa Jazz and Wilkinsons in a Vintage VJ74 I just picked up and the Wilkinsons compare very well indeed. Punchy and very Jazz-like, as you'd expect but more quite a bit more power than the Entwistles. Though to be fair the Entwistles aren't the Neo jobs, they're ceramic. Nice sound, though.
  20. That's a bit personal, isn't it? Why do you want to know? Are you thinking of buying him a shirt..?
  21. I don't even let family life get in the way of my playing. Feck 'em! They swan around doing exactly what they want to do, so why should I stay at home pretending to be a responsible father/partner/householder? It's always been the same for me, I'm not really happy unless I'm playing the bass and anything else is just annoying crap to be got out of the way as quickly as possible so I can play the bass.* *Posting threads about playing the bass on a forum and looking at basses for sale on the internet is also valid.
