1. hopefully I'm wrong but from the picture it seems there is a 2-way switch for OD or fuzz at the top. Looks like you can't blend the two distortion circuits, just pick one and add in some clean. Missed opportunity if that is the case!
2. Nothing more annoying that a young, talented band
3. I'm listening to this now, it must have passed me by earlier in the year. I've not bought any primus for a while, but enjoying this a lot. The Seven is a hell of a track. ... as for the Prophets of Rage mentions, it may be just me but compared to RATM, I find it pretty terrible / formulaic. Really a disappointing album for me. I bought more albums in 2016 than I had for some time, with Iggy Pop, Russian Circles, Helms Alee and Dismemberment Plan being some real stand-outs. 2017, I've hardly got anything new. Alpha Male Tea Party and Chiyoda Ku albums were both belters though.
4.
Just ordered the EHX. Initial reports from over the pond are very positive, at least one person had replaced their Wren & Cuff TFR with one!
blimey. though I'm sure talkbass will have moved on to something else in a week or two
5. Just traded my SS/BS with Ed - top bloke and pleasure to do business with
6. I love the BB preamp, but I wouldn't say it's aggressive... maybe a SS/BS Mini would fit the bill? I would say something RAT based, but that's moving more into distortion and higher gain than you're probably after.
7. wowsers - now that looks like a LOT of fun! good job!!
8. Mr. Black Eterna would be a good shout. Used to have one, lovely shimmer on it, and lush reverb without it. huge decay...
9. the PT Jr that I showed a picture of is the model that you can still buy. It's only an inch or so different from the old PT Jr...
10. for a guide - this is a PT Metro 24: and this is a classic Jr: and this is an older PT mini:
11. 7 pedals and a PSU? sounds about spot on for a Pedaltrain classic Jr! 4 on the front row with your 3 pedals in the LS-2 on the back row. Room for 1 more pedal down the road, PSU can mount underneath.
12. I picked up my 2011 US P in PMT around the time the 2012 models were released, with different pickups. They knocked something like £250 off the price for me, as it was an older model!
13. Personally, I never make a decision on a pedal without hearing it at full volume at band practice. As you say - some pedals sound great at home but disappear in the mix when used in the real world (out of the bedroom!). Equally, my rat-based distortion sounds killer at full volume, pushing the tubes on my rig, but underwhelming through my little solid state practice amp at home. Most importantly, from my experience at least, I think you need to build your pedalboard around a consistent setup (i.e. same type of bass, same amp and cab), as just changing the bass, or the amp, or the cab, is enough to dramatically change how a pedal sounds, and your opinion on it. Never ceases to amaze me how using somebody else's cab at a gig (but my bass, head, etc) can make such a change to how my pedals (dirt, especially) sound. I HATE all of my dirt pedals through cabs with 8 or 10 inch speakers, and don't really care for 15's. Has to be 4x12! I'll sometimes ask for the opinions of band mates, when I'm trying one pedal off against another. The most important consideration for me is how my sound and the guitarist's sound mesh together. It's about trying to find sounds that mesh together to create a wall of noise haha I don't tend to use stuff 'on the fly'. I play originals, and part of writing each song is finding the effected tone that works best to compliment that song. I'd say 95% of my bass parts are effected, to some degree (though a big chunk of that is a light distortion as my amp is incredibly clean).
14. fuzz for me, as you said 'fun' I always smile when I step on a fuzz pedal, more so than other effects. But there is no right answer, which is why between 10 odd replies you have had compressor, octaver, filter, overdrive, fuzz and modulation!! and multi fx.
15. Having played one, I agree that it's a decent sounding muff, and definitely worth the price - but to the best of my knowledge it's not 'built in the UK' as that review states!
16. I have, and love, the MXR analog chorus. Hi and Low cuts do a very similar job to the crossover... great pedal.
17. hi - sorry this sold many months ago and I forgot the edit the thread!
18. may be worth asking this in the effects section? more likely to get people chipping in..
19.
Picked up a SSBS TAFM this week, so giving it a run on the band board to see how it stacks up against the TFR...
well, the TAFM is going to stay on the board for a while... love my TFR, but the TAFM is great! So much clarity
20. SSBS Mini - quite a good demo... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BlU5kbCa70
21. I very much like the Xotic BB Bass Preamp and the Smallsound Bigsound Mini for low gain OD. Neither have a blend, but I think that is totally redundant on a low gain pedal. However, both have a two band EQ, which I think is much more useful...
22.
r u sure I thought they were all 1 and 5/8ths
yep, I have owned two JV 62's and both were 1 & 5/8 also, same as my 2011 US P.
23. Tom doesn't do setups or repairs anymore, just builds. SiCo setups is the chap who used to do the setups in Waghorn for Tom: https://www.facebook.com/sicosetups/
24. Hi - I've only just seen this thread, and I think I can make it too. If any interest I can bring my 1970's fender bassman 135 head, though unable to transport my cab down, so I'll need to borrow a cab if anybody wants to try the amp. Lots of pedals, plus a 1989 stingray and a 2003 AV62 P bass, depending on what I can fit in my car!
25. Picked up a SSBS TAFM this week, so giving it a run on the band board to see how it stacks up against the TFR...
