Pulled, and the seller's outraged reaction is very amusing.
You're not wrong.

I use all four fingers, it is easier for me that way. *gets coat*
But let's look at it another way: at the end of the day, what difference is it to him whether it's I or a courier who stands at his door? Answer me that!
That one's easy, if it's you, you can sling the amp on the back seat of your car, no box and away you go. If it's a courier, he's got to hunt out a ton of reinforced packaging to stop it getting busted, and find new and intricate ways of wrapping it round the thing.

Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 (updated problem see post 7)
Dave Vader replied to Dave Vader's topic in Recording
Argh, got it working in windows (sort of) and the playback from my cubase sounds like it's underwater and through a commodore 64. Can't convince cubase to do playback through the old media card and just record from the saffire either. Any ideas what this could be? I'm hoping it's a software problem, or it might be the cheap nasty firewire card not being able to process properly, or the unit is buggered. Any ideas chaps? -
Sell some basses, and spend the money on perfecting my sound?
Dave Vader replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
P-bass, flats, turn the tone knob down to about 3, frowny face on the eq. job done. Sounds hideous on it's own, but in a mix you will punch through like mighty mouse in a paper bag. -
This will work well in this locality, depressing but true marv. You will learn to hate Hotel California more than any other song inthe history of music

What do you do with basses you don't play?
Dave Vader replied to woodyratm's topic in General Discussion
Well having read this over the last few days has boosted me into action. Have just bought another bass - off of here - and when it arrives, I`ll be putting two up for sale, as I only really need two basses.
Let me guess lozz, is it a P-bass? -
Psssttt... try oil finishes and wax instead...
Cheers guys, i would like to own a bass with a non-lacquered maple board one day, presumably there's a way to get them clean
Nope. Unless you like sanding it down once a month.

Best way to remove laquer from between frets?
Dave Vader replied to Monckyman's topic in Repairs and Technical
Those guys over at talkbass had a thread about some orange stripper that works really well on SX necks. Citristrip? Or something like that. have a look over there, and see if youc an get it over here. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f18/citristrip-vs-essex-vintage-neck-tint-553831/ Just to get you started, unless you're going through the poly as well, in which case, good luck with that. -
I saw Sandi Thom at the Rhythm Festival last year and was full of cynicism, but was actually pleasantly surprised. Did some really good Bluesey stuff, which apparently is were she's at at the moment (Well 6 months ago).
If she's doing good stuff now, that would be why she isn't getting mainstream coverage anymore, at a guess. Though if it's with Joe Bonnafretw***er I'll give it a miss, he annoys me, and is not to my taste.

I find her slightly bland and uninteresting, but I am enjoying the hipster backlash as they realise they were played by the labels again. She's not as sh*t as Sandi thom was at least.

New Gig, New Rig hit me with smallish goodish amps

New Gig, New Rig hit me with smallish goodish amps

Oh a compact would be nice... And I'm trying to get more spare time to spend with the wife, so extra time is good. Other bands are surprisingly easy to come by these days, i have turned down 4 offers in the last few weeks. And I was tiring of the other band anyway, not my kind of music, and I was only doing it for the dosh, and as a favour to the singer who is a mate. Don't need the dosh now. But a compact would be nice.... Oh and that fender looks nice too... -
Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 (updated problem see post 7)

Thanks for the input all, I have one on order now (and a PCI firewire port for my prehistoric old PC in the garage) -
Had a few, most memorable was Sarah Cracknell of St Etienne, as I had no ****ing idea who she was, and when asked to say hello to her by someone, I then told her to go **** herself for not waving and making herself known. I was in trouble with the management, again...
-
Anybody else using one of these? I am thinking of getting one to use with my very old PC in my studio, will be running it with a prehistoric version of Cubase on XP to start with (will also have to stick in a firewire PCI card I think) and eventually it will be part of my super-linux audio production that I am going to start building in the spring. Opinions? Will it work for me, or will it be sh*te? Only for home recording, so don't need more than the 4 inputs it possesses at any one time. All advice greatly appreciated, don't want to waste money

Post-Womble-Deathcore-Hoedowns. Still... (Oh alright, i'm playing with a fairly folky singer-songwriter at the moment, and about to lose the 80s tribute, much to the relief of my thumb))
-
I should probably have put the word thanks in that reply, sorry, Thanks very much MM.

Exactly what I needed to know, I shall not waste my money, and I will stick a focusrite saffire or the other red one in the way, hopefully that will work better.

It is not great, I would like something that sounds cleaner, and maybe lets me have outboard knob-twiddling capabilities on the mix (like the old days). For not much money. Is this a bad idea? Should I just get a focusrite 2 input usb thingy and use the onboard mixers in cubase? Ta for any help offered here.

I have a 5 string kay that I love dearly. My wife won't let me play it in the house though, or outside it if she is within earshot. Or in fact anywhere where other people may see it. I like it though, bloody hard to get your head round, but worth it.

can't you read what's written on the head ?
Dave Vader replied to girya32's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
erm, the writing on the headstock actually seems too short to say precision... probably has a Jazz neck on it, and thus what is written on the headstock is.... -
Best kept secret in the guitar world (loathe to let it go, but you are in need) early 80s Hondo 2 Les Paul copies came with Di Marzio Humbuckers that are utterly brilliant. You can pick up the guitar for about 35 quid on the bay, strip out the pickups and sell off the bits to make your money back. I have got a few sets of them this way, and still have one set in an epi SG which is now lovely. Just make sure they are not the shiny paf looking ones, as those hondo ones are unbuckers, and sh*t.
