I used to gig regularly with a guitar through a bass amp, I liked the feedback you get from the bass speakers, with a bit of judicious eq, it's fine. Don't worry.

Anybody out there using one of these regularly? I am looking at getting a smaller rig, and this looks right up my street. However, I noticed it doesn't have a gain setting at the front end, and being a guy with loud basses and loud fingers, my GK has struggled with not distorting over the years, as it's input level doesn't work like a normal gain level would. Would the one volumed Kickback work alright with my thunderous fingers? Or am I just going to have to go and try one in a shop before I hit up people for second hand ones? Also, any cheaper and possibly better options out there that I don't know about?

Look at the girls in the audience, you will forget that the song is dull.

Do any of you Change your Tone for Gigging?
Dave Vader replied to la bam's topic in General Discussion
Yep, have to twiddle around for every room. I've found out that if the bass sounds a bit overdriven, and buzzy and horrid on it's own. Then once the band kick in it works perfectly in the mix. Which is fine until we get to a song where it's my intro... -
New Gig, New Rig hit me with smallish goodish amps

Okay, had a look around online, anyone got any experience with the Hartke Kickback 12? It looks like it might be just the job. -
Exactly. In both of my bands, a couple of the guitarists use "small" valve amps - 15 watts - and neither need miking up in regular pub-size venues. And neither band is quiet, one is a punk covers band, the other, well we have drums, 2 basses, 3 gtrs, and keys - you get the idea.
Yep, I play guitar in a band and use my old Vox V15, I once used it in a band with 3 guitars, and it drowned out their 100w Marshall Valvesh*ts without going over 6. An AC30 will not be quiet, really. (Flipping good though)

Long, long time ago when I still played guitar, I had a really bad cold anyway, but still did the gig, could barely sing (was lead vocals too) and croaked the whole way through. Also, bust a string on my main guitar, then drowned the backup in so much sweat it shorted out on me. Finished off on the support bands Les Paul (which was horrible) before the bass player's pint went down the back of the old valve powered PA we were using, finishing the night off with a heck of a bang. Hows that?

My Rockinbetter neck is ludicrously skinny, as was an Epi T-bird I owned briefly.
Its not unusual la la la la la la la. Couldn't resist it. I mainly gig one bass at the moment despite having a few to choose from. Really down to being lazy.
This, very much so. And as for studios, I also use the one in my garage, where all my instruments live, send me your mp3s and I will overdub and send you back a stem to sync back in yourself. (Although when I do get dragged to a real studio, I take a P-bass, fretted or fretless depending on the job)

I used to have the SG1000 it was a killer guitar, but sadly I needed to eat, so off it went.... still quite miss it. Nice bargain. Almost as cheap as my Epi SG was.

Yes (this is not a helpful answer)

Do we convince ourselves that expensive strings sound better?
what kind do use, i'm feeling experimental and unwilling to pay 30 bucks for roto 77s
I think Rich uses Status Hotwires (I'm using them at the moment as well) bought direct from Status's website. I use fender 9050s, cos they are also cheap, and I find them a little better balanced -

Oh, velcro, I never thought of that... nice plan. Don't really like Rumbles Marv, amusingly they don't rumble enough for me. The chap in Project is a good guy, he has a studio out somerset way we recorded in a couple of years ago, helpful guy. They have the big version of the Touring, so I might pop in and have a squizz. It really is a cracking gig, having trouble getting used to hearing the song I just learned for the audition on the radio every day. Tis a little surreal.... -
I just bought a bunch of Neutrik Jacks off of Paul, ludicrously fast delivery, great service. Good chap.

Here's No 1, my 3 in 1 "I only need one Strat" Strat. Has Squier bits, fujigen-gakki bits, fender bits, and bulldog pickups. Technically it's still my 1st guitar from when I was 13, but I think the Scratch plate is the only original bit left.

Bassist wanted for 80s tribute band in Devon

Cheers Lozz, if I don't do it for them, they won't let me leave.... -

Dave Vader replied to morsefull's topic in Accessories and Misc
Yep, I use even cheaper flatwounds than Rich does (I tried the ones he uses, I didn't get on with them). They are nice. When I do use rounds, I use Legacys, they are around £8 a set, and absolutely fine. -
Erm... because I am british and thus unable to articulate my feelings to others in words. However, if I plug my stratocaster into my old Vox amp and start wailing away on the neck pickup, you get a pretty good idea of what's going on in my head, and it helps me sort out the things in my head better than talking ever did. My wife will never quite get that though.... Also, you can never beat that feeling of a whole bunch of people all playing perfectly together, and using a whole set of shared emotions and stuff to create something unique and beautiful, which will usually never be played again, and instantly forgotten by the band (oh I do like to do improvisational jams that real people would never listen to)

Could you just use one cab with the GK head? Or is this a GAS thing
they do, I have used them like that before, it is a bit of a GAS thing, I'll admit. But more of a walking off the stage with all my gear in one go when doing multi-band shows thing. I miss it, used to be fun with my old ashdown, all the leads in the gig bag, bass on my back, and amp in hand (pint in the other). Rather than the endless pulling out of leads, putting the head in it's case and going back and forth for 10 minutes. And I really do like the look of those new Ashdowns (you have rumbled me) Did you go for the Hartke in the end Marv? -
Okay, who wants my old gig? I am leaving the Spaced Invaders in April as I have got myself another gig with an originals act and don't have the time. I have also agreed to help find my own replacement. They're a 5 piece tribute act to the whole decade, though mostly the new romantic/electro side. You get to play John Taylor's lines, Mick Karn's lines, and a bit of Pino as well. Lots of fun, loads of bookings right up to the end of this year, and you get to dress up in a shiny suit (or whatever piece of retro 80s fashion takes you mood). The guys are easy going and fun to play with, and all good (drummer is particularly excellent and great to play with) and i wouldn't be leaving if I didn't have to. If you want to come and check us out to see what you might be getting into, have a look at http://www.lemonrock.com/spacedinvaders and check the gig list. If you're interested phone Trevor on 01840 212744 and he'll set you up with an audition or PM me, and I'll forward it on to the lads.
I've got one of those laptop-friendly rucksacks - RH450 slotted into the laptop bit, all the leads, screwdrivers, spare strings, etc in the other bit. That on the back, bass in one hand, 800w 2x15 cab in the other. I wouldn't run a marathon like that, but it's about 50lb plus the bass total, so I'm good from the car to the venue in one go.
My gammy wrists are screaming at the thought of a 2x15 in one hand.... -

Oh, Hartke look like the sort of thing I'm after. Anyone any experience? Is it worth getting the Hydrive, or would an A series do the job just as well? -
In that case, having been very impressed every time I`ve heard someone using a Markbass combo at gigs, I`d suggest one of those. I can see where you`re coming from, my box of leads is bigger than my amp - in fact, I put the amp in with the leads!
Excellent, I have two identical boxes at the moment (silver camera boxes) one has my GK head in, the other is filled with leads. I've never really got into the markbass sound, it's a bit clean and sparkly for me, I like dirt, think Jack Bruce.
