  1. Loving this thread and chuckling away at some of the tales. Disappointingly I have nothing like this to contribute
  2. For sale is this updated version of the SFX Microthumpinator. IIRC they come in two colours and this is the red one. There is some velcro on the rear that I will leave on as it might be of use to you. £100 collected, or £105 inc P&P to UK mainland please.
  3. Alternative solution: Buy black (or cream) basses?
  4. Hi folks Here's a set of Newtone Shorties in 46-58-85-105 (made in England) short scale bass strings. These are in the heavier of the two gauges offered as standard sets. Save yourself some £s against the £31 shop price. £23 inc. P&P to UK mainland. The website has extra info here: https://newtonestrings.com/shop/newtone-shorties-bass-strings/?v=8149a502b805
  5. It's in the diary Rob, not sure what I'll be bring yet as I've move a fair few basses on due to some arthritis problems in my hands. I have found a massager thingy which is helping though, which is good (but maybe less so for the listening public). I can't find last year's thread, possibly not searching for the right thing. Can anyone point the way please? Alain
  6. Lovely. I'm sure someone was looking for a 32" bass on here. I can't recall where I saw it, but maybe have a look at the topics here (I don't think it was in the Wanted section though.
  7. I think that these are made using the same technique as the ACG FB pickups. Same manufacturer for sure.
  8. The Silver Series used the same 40mm nut width neck for both the P and J basses. I can't recall the exact profile, but it wasn't chunky in any way.
  9. It really is. The new Graft basses have all been amazing instruments.
  10. Some of the later Japanese Squiers had narrower necks and are shockingly good value. Pretty sure that there's a Silver Series P bass on here that is nicely run in and has a 40mm nut. It used to be mine.
  11. Hi folks, more stuff from the spares draw that needs to find a good home. Here's a brand new and unopened set of the Geezer Butler P/J pickups. These are all passive no no battery required; save yourself several squids on buying them new from a store. £105 inc. P&P to UK mainland. These are the beasties: https://www.emgpickups.com/bass/pj-models/gzr-pj.html

  12. Just picked up a strap from Paul. Great to deal with and everything done very promptly and efficiently. Many thanks.
  13. My minor brush with fame was with the bass player from a pretty well known NW band. He bought an MIJ P bass I was selling and came round to pick it up. Thoroughly nice man, had a good chat but he didn't play it much other than to make sure it was all working.
  14. That's a beautiful looking bass you have there.
  15. Thanks @scrumpymike As I understand it the Bone White (I know, get a different hobby) is original. There are a few nudges in it but this is experimental for me and it's more about the practicality of the bass for me in terms of size, neck profile etc. I think the nut and the p/up are not original and the electronics have been upgraded. One tuner is different too but the whole bass is really very engaging and works really nicely together.
  16. In order to try and find a bass that doesn't set off my on-setting arthritis I have joined the club having just done a part ex and received this bass as part of the deal. I know the brand (Fenix by Young Chang) but have never come across this particular bass. Does anyone know anything about them?

    SEI bass

I used to own a lovely fretless 5er...
  18. These basses were made in China by Tanglewood who have a pretty good reputation for their Chinese-made products. Finally setup and and checking for these early batches was done by Overwater in the UK.
  19. For sale is this rather lovely Overwater by Tanglewood bass in what is, to my eyes, a pearlescent vintage white colour. As you can (hopefully) see it is in excellent condition and dates to 2011. I'd say the image with the ownership notice best represents the colour. The bass is in very good condition with no marks that I see. I believe the bodies on these were Poplar and the bass has a 3-piece maple neck and rosewood board. The bass weighs a very shoulder-friendly 8lbs 2oz (3.7kgs in new money) and comes with a decent gig bag, also in very good condition. The only issue I can find is that one of the knobs has a small fracture in it. These have a grub screw to grip the pot shaft and I have been unable to find an exact match in order to replace it. It works absolutely fine so not a major issue. Unfortunately, the original John East preamp suffered mechanical and electrical failure in that the push/pull on the volume that engages a ‘bright’ tone broke. Thankfully I had a Glockenklang 2-band in the spares drawer that has been happily working away without issue. The original preamp will be included in the sale. The bonus here is that although you have lost the ‘bright’ function you now have a push/pull passive option with the treble acting as a tone pot. Our own Dood has reviewed this bass (not this exact bass you understand but one of its siblings) in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQmEYg8G9nA I would much prefer to arrange to meet up/deliver/have the bass collected so you can see it in the flesh. If it is to be a courier then I will get it all packed up for you and you can arrange shipment at your convenience. If you have any questions at all or require additional pictures of any details please ask away and I give as comprehensive an answer as I am able. Thanks for looking.
  20. @Hellzero here are a couple of better pics of the Eve Iona. Not a proper through-neck bass as you can see:
  21. I have had these pickups in a P bass I was using for a while. Nice output and tone tbh. I have now returned the bass to stock and sold it so these are no longer needed. No idea who makes them but they seem well put together without the nasty sharp edges on the casings that some cheaper p/ups seem to have. The two wires were extended a little to fit better into the bass they were in, but there is plenty of wire for a more standard P bass so they could easily be removed if you find them offensive. £20 inc postage to UK mainland. Thanks for looking and here are some picks:
  22. Is your preamp subtly different to the one in the link as I can't see the Z mode micro switch and wonder what the 5-way switch does?
  23. These are great preamps. I have a 4-band Audere in my last remaining fretless ACG bass.
  24. Absolutely! I am always amazed by the reception and following that bands I have thought to be quite niche until you see them live. I had a very similar experience at a Lindisfarne gig some years back.
