3. I bought a P bass wiring kit off John, like everyone else who has bought one, I am very happy with it, he's great with advice, fast turnarround, PERFECT. Thanks John!
4.
^this. KiOgon is a gent and can give you some great advice. The kits are very well made and the price is, as Paul says, very reasonable. I've got one of KiOgon's wiring looms in my P bass, it sounds fantastic.
massive +1
5. Took Garys advice and ordered from a kit from Kiogon (John) thanks Gary ......and John is a really helpfull knowledgeable guy, thanks John.
6. I have assembled a bitsa P for a friend, it's worked out pretty well, but the pickup is a cheap one and doesn't sound too good. Another friend has offered a choice of four used decent pickups that he has in a spares box, I am going to be fitting the four different pickups in the bass for the owner to choose ONE of the pickups for the bitsa, my question is; .....as I may have the pickups in and out more than once, is there an easy, neat and perfectly usable way of joining the two pickup wires to the wires coming from the pots? I was thinking of using a small connector block as I don't want to be soldering & unsoldering lots of times, is there a easier/ better way to connect the wires in the cavity? thanks for any information.
7. I love mine.
8. as an animal lover would love to buy one just to help you out Mel, but got 2 P's myself, have a bump and the best of luck... Nick
9.
I think the Wilkinsons cut through cleanly, with a lovely smooth finish
The £48 one's I take it you mean? so these appear to be very good for the money it seems. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110971482655?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
10.
There are two levels of Wilkinson P and J pickups - the cheaper of the two (£15 for a P and £20 for a J-set) are steel pole pieces with ceramic magnets underneath the pickup. These come as stock on the Vintage 'Jaco' fretless J bass. The more expensive ones (£25 for a P and £48 for a J-set) have alnico pole pieces and these are much nicer-sounding with more output - I put a set in the Vintage and it really did make a difference to the sound. The Vintage stratocaster I had featured the staggered-pole alnico pickups and they sounded really nice, even when compared to the 2009 MIM Strat I had at the time. I believe they are wound to Fender vintage specs. I'd definitely give the alnico models a thumbs-up.
Do the £48 a set one's come in any off the shelf basses and are these about the best you'll get for fifty quid a pair for a Vintage (brand) jazz? EDIT: Squier classic vibe jazz pair are about £40, do hese compare to the premium wilkinsons?
11. Just received a beaultifull Tort Jazz scratchplate from Howard, fit perfectly. Top job, top man, nuf said. Buy/deal with absolute confidance, Nick
12. My solution; get a BBOT baseplate and source some Squier CV P or jazz saddles and screws (they come in chrome or brass) depending on what CV they came from, 20mm spacing. Fit it all together, bingo, BBOT with 20mm spacing. HTH.
13. He's doing a tort one for me right now, top bloke.
14. Sold a control plate to Paul, great comms. paid quickly a great bloke to trade with 5*
15. As in the tittle...... these flats are 40-60-80-100 guage. I use these flats on one of my P basses in a reggae band and love the feel, sound, tension of them, and they last for ages. I have just bought another set same guage about a month ago and put them on another P as a back-up, unfortunately the band has split and we've moved in a different musical direction, so I don't need a back-up with flats anymore. They cost £21.59 with the postage, and have been used for max an hour, so I would like £16 for them posted as they are almost new,....... a cheep and easy way to try flats! Here's a link to them and don't forget they are cut for a 34in in line head bass. Thanks NOW SOLD http://www.status-gr...index_home.html
16. Anybody know where to get a not too expensive nice Torty scratchplate for a Mexican Jazz? I tried one from ebay (£13) but it didn't fit very well, also cheap ones seem to be naff looking Tort, I want one with nice Tort if possible, any idea's? Also am I right in thinking standard Mex & standard USA are the same screw position and same neck cut out / control plate cut out? cheers for any help. Nick.
17.
That's f***ing gorgeous and I want It.
I concur with this fact.
18. here; http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2c6b252387 or here; http://www.ebay.co.u...=item19bd9d8edc sorry didn't realise that you wanted a gen Fender?
19.
I bought a Tort from this guy & it fitted my Fender Mexican P very nicely, so for £12.95 I'd say they're fine/good deal/bargain. http://www.ebay.co.u...4#ht_1655wt_754 I got a custom made for my '51 P from 'The Bass Doc' as discreet above has said, if you want perfection - send Howard a PM, if you just want a scratch plate try the ebay link, they fit MiM's fine IMO, if yours is not a Fender - I dunno, sometimes the routing is different. Cheerz, john
hi John, i'm after a nice tort plate, I see you got a plate from this eBay seller, what was the tort like?.....some tort plates look naf and uncovincing, yet some look great, i'm also considering the red/black marble. The Squier CV tort plates are not very nice IMO. cheers Nick BTW this looks nice tort http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/2364/cmfbjb.jpg
20.
I've owned both of these (still own the US '75 reissue) and while the US bass is better built, has better hardware, superior pickups, is lighter in weight, is better balanced, has nicer body wood, has a far better feeling neck and frets, sounds better (subjective), has real neck inlays not painted ones, is finished to a higher standard and comes with a nice vintage hardcase, chrome pickup covers, (not fitted) and all the usual US case candy..............I still don't think it's worth about £1400 more than the Squier. Both are good bass guitars and I thoroughly recommend the Squier - excellent basses for a bargain price. Frank.
not an expert but, I thought the Squier VMJ had real neck inlays.
21. I would try 'plasticweld' (or similar) a liquid glue available from hobby/model shops and applied with a small modellers paint brush. IMO I would probably join the plate together with masking tape on the front, then paint the glue in carefully from the back. When the glue has taken hold (a minute or two) place a piece of wood sheet on the plate to hold it flat and leave for 24 hours, then peel the tape off the front and you should have an invisble join. HTH's. heres a link to the stuff; http://www.scalemodelshop.co.uk/plastic-weld-polystyrene-cement-glue-plastic-weld-ppc-2.html?utm_source=googleps
22. keep at it, I played for years with only a pick, had a break for a few years, got back into playing ....using fingers, don't know exactly why, just did. That was five years ago, now some songs we play require a pick and I find it hard to play with a pick but I am sticking with it.
