This is funny - I understand both POV somewhat. As a guitarist I've stopped buying cheap, interesting and especially upgradable guitars because I know they'll never really give me the sound or playing feel I want and can't match the great instruments I already own and use. OTOH as a bass player I'm happy to be using a cheap Johnny Brooke J type and an even cheaper old Encore P type, and would certainly have been very happy to own one of these (preferably with a maple board) because I'm still at the stage of enjoying experimenting with basses. I don't need a particular feel or sound to my playing because I've not developed to the point where I KNOW what i want and anything else isn't good enough, therefore I'm happy to use sub-optimal kit while I'm developing. And I also like upgrading & fixing, so having a cheap instrument that will be forced to evolve a bit if it's to remain playable isn't a bad thing, although apart from electronics, most cheap gear seems to last much better than when Kay were typical. So if anyone has one of these they want to unload cheap in 6 months time, I may be a willing recipient

An old B&W gnome (IIRC) with holders for 35mm & medium format negs, lens. I may have some processing equipment laying around too. I've not done darkroom work in a long time, and would rather pass this on to get space back. Collect from North Oxon. Gone.
I nearly went for the Jan Philips, but I managed to bag myself a bit of a special 5751 - I thought I'd treat myself! Details to follow, but I think I'll keep you all waiting!
Tease!
I tried line 6 whilst on my new rig quest over a year ago, and felt that whilst the preset sounds where good, they where line 6 sounds and not the basses, if that makes sense I know a few guitar players though, you love the presets, quite easy for covers gigs, just note the no. down that suits the song
This is what I've found to be true of the modellers that I've tried - whatever instrument you put in is homogenised and comes out sounding like the model. That's not necessarily a problem, and they seem to be much more acceptable for bass than guitar (they sound pretty horrid for guitar to me, due to the high frequency hash - not an issue for bass).

I'm rather grateful these have all gone now - if there'd been one with a maple neck I'd have HAD to grab it! BTW Gaf - I'm still enjoying your old Johnny Brooke, courtesy of some Fender PUs, a high mass bridge and a good fret level & set up.

I have a few sets of the gas welding files for guitar nuts. The finer sizes are VERY flimsy, but they do get better as you head toward the bass sizes. They're probably worth about £1.85 that they're charging.

The gain of a preamp is a function of both the gain that a given valve is capable of and also the actual preamp design. i.e. not every 12AX7 in every preamp will produce a gain of 100, and it may be as little as 30 or 40 or even less, depending. OTOH different valves, even of the same type, sound different, let alone when you start swapping out different designs. I like the sound of 'lower gain' valves (12AT7s particularly) in preamps designed for 12AX7s - the tone can often be sweeter or more detailed, and with more headroom. Since bass doesn't generally rely on preamp overdrive for it's core tone then I'd suggest there's a lot to be gained by trying different valves, including the 5751.
Yeah when saw that i thought my wife had started posting on Basschat Anyways BC'ers will have to find another thread to release angst as the buyer and i have reached an amicable settlement.
That and your offer were great. Good man.

I'd very much see the case as part of the sale too, since it was listed in the description - not as a 'free extra' as some imply here. I'd also think several times before buying a nice bass off the vendor, having read both sides of the story.

Just bought James' Laney DP150. He was really good to deal with, let me get on with trying the amp without pressure and was great to meet too - thanks feller.

Is there a problem bunging a big set of casters on a cab?
Ancient Mariner replied to Ancient Mariner's topic in Amps and Cabs
There is no such thing as mechanical coupling, so don't worry about that. But less than perfectly level floors can result in the cab being tippy, or one caster not having any load on it, and it may then rattle. Carry some bits of foam rubber in your kit to put under the casters in that case.
Thanks BF -
I use these: For those that haven't used T-Nuts before, you just drill a hole, put the nut on the inside of the cab with the 'tube' part inside the hole. When you tighten everything up the little 'teeth' bite into the wood and hold it there. Having a flat plate on the top acts as a 'washer' and spreads the load. If you ever need to change a caster the nut stays in place when you undo the bolt and it saves dismantling the whole thing.
I like T nuts for speaker mounting, but they're a little tricky to get hold of in Homebase. -

Thanks gents - looks like locking & bolted it will be then. My first ever guitar amp was an AC30 that someone had put castors on before I got it, and that saved me a few times times (including rolling several hundred yards across a bumpy field at Greenbelt festival). But bass amps seem a bit different, and I thought I'd get advice before fiddling.
