2. ..... and a newcomer. http://jmspeakers.nl/specs/ Only one (and different looking) bass cab so far but I am sure that there will be more to follow.
3. Well it took me some time. But I didn't forget. Had the smoothest of transactions with Duncan concerning a JB loaded body. Prompt, courteous, honest made this transeuropean deal, a breeze. Thanks Duncan.
4. ........... and sold. Thank you for your time and interest.
5.
And his name a dead giveaway -lol!!!
True... Although not of Greek but of Latin origin from "constant" (in honour of Constantine, name of the first Christian Roman Emperor and founder of the Byzantine Empire). For some unexplicable reason (although I have a strong theory), Greeks believe that Kostas is equivalent to English name "Gus" History/linguistic lesson for free....

7. Got I Jazz neck from Chris. Quick, honest transaction with fair price for a good looking neck. Cheers, Chris. It has been a pleasure.
8. I swapped my lovely 32" Squire MIJ P-bass with Marc's Flea JB. To be honest It took some time and loads of messages to take Marc's "virginity" in posting the bass abroad (and I don't blame him) but was well worth it. Not only because he sent me an absolutely lovely bass (that I can't take from my son's hands) in a bulletproof package but because I had the chance (through emails - so far) to get to know a wonderful person. A good friend material I would not be hesitant for a second to do business or have a drink (or two) with Marc. Actually I would love to. Thank you Marc. It has been an absolute pleasure.
9.
Here is a link to my site in the US that you might enjoy. Also a pretty rare collection of medium scalers, including PRS #11 - also the build threads where applicable. The Rob Allen is short scale the others are medium scalers: http://www.innertainment.net/ And a little dissertation I wrote about playing the bass that fits you. http://www.innertain...net/medium.html Hope you enjoy! BassHappy
Couple of months ago I saw what you did in your Telecaster!!! Amazing job !! I loved it ! (and really quality pics)
Well under 1K really.
Does this look good to you ? https://www.thomann....f=search_prv_13
10.
Since I bought my Fender CE300 T-Bucket acoustic bass (32" scale 42mm nut) I have been doing most of my practice on it. When I go to rehearsals with one of my 34" basses I find my muscle memory needs a conscious adjustment as my left hand is now used to the 32" neck...
It has to be noted though, that sometimes, poor (or fashion-minded) ergonomics negate the comfort of 32" scale whereas properly designed 34"s can feel as easy to play as a 32 scale (Warwick Fortress quickly springs to mind). On the other hand, the Stanley Clarke Alembic I was revisiting today, certainly doesn't look or feel like a short scale or the Squier Telecaster that has the same overall length (and much thicker body and neck with a 43mm nut) with a 34" Jazz bass since their scale is shortened by pushing the bridge closer to the neck rather than downsizing the whole bass by a percentage.
11.
I'm wanting to try a 32 scale P bass, who does one that isn't ridiculously expensive?
If you could please define the limit above which the "ridiculously" tag is applied ......
12. 32"s ?? I just love them. Best of both worlds. I owned quite few of them. Some of them brilliant, some of them not. Loved the Alembic Spoiler and the Kubicki X-Factor but could not afford them. Had the wonderful Aria TSB-650 (all TSB series is medium scale) but in a moment of "doudt and pain" traded it for something else plus cash... Changed my mind next day but was too late. The Mexican Fender Urge was never my cup of tea and I was happy to see it go. I took home for couple of weeks the American Stu Hum. Better bass than its Mexican cousin but again, not for me. Same for the Fender Jazz Bass Special JP-535. As much as I would like to like it, didn't work for me but his new owner loves it. I would really love to get my hands on a green Burns Marquee but unfortunately this is not the right time In any case, my medium scale thirst is well under control at the moment. I own a beautiful and great sounding Landing L2 (www.landingbass.com). It;s been with me quite a long time (and my son loves it so, here it stays) but I think that a new paint job is in order. Next to the list is my MIJ Squire A series P-bass with custom pickups (Alnico II / heavy formvar), flats and custom metallic paint job. Groove machine... Couple of months ago I became a happy owner of the gorgeous Squier Telecaster Vintage Bass (which will undergo a new finish sooner or later). And a new pickup probably. Wonderful bass. One sound only, true, but a really good one. Bit heavy though..... And here is the medium scale I have before any of the aforementioned. The Gypsy Flower from SX. Laugh all you like but is a well balanced bass with alder body and a very comfortable (and looks like quartershawn) neck for under 180 Euros. With just a change of strings and a pair of decent pickups (I tried Toneriders), I played to two gis with it (admitedly with the black version since I wasn't brave enough for the purple) and behaved admirably. Obviously, Medium Scale Rules !
13. I could use numerous nice adjectives and epithets to describe Mark and the exceptionally smooth transaction (bought a pair of pickups from him) we had but I could summarise it down to "one of the best, if not the best". Once more, thank you Mark.
14.
.... I can only assume that Will has shares in a packaging firm as I've never seen so much bubblewrap and tape on one item
Totally agree. An excellent guy to do business with. Bomb-proof packaging (of a Warmoth bass body and neck), prompt shipping, detailed and honest description and friendly coomunication throughout the deal..... One of the best. Thank you Will and a Happy New Year.
15. @IanA: The main reason was pricing. I tried to have all cabs as close as possible in terms of specs and pricing. The test supposed to be for affordable 12" European cabs but since we had the Aguilar in hand (and Italians could not send a cab at that time) we did not let the chance go by. @chardbass: The face of John (professional session player with a 35 years’ experience and, being a bass gear collector extraordinaire, quite knowledgeable in a vast array of bass gear) is made because of being impressed by the beefy reproduction of the B string by the BB2. “Ballsy and well defined bottom” is what he said. On the other hand, the scissor sign (towards me) around 9:45 was signifying a feeling of slight unwanted compression around lower midrange.
16. I had the pleasure to play with a BB2 as well as with a Vanderkley EXT112 (among EBS, Aguilar and Tecamp) in a test I performed for 12" bass cabs for a Greek music forum. Both were excellent cabs in their own way and clearly, for my taste, the best two of the bunch. It would not be easy to choose between the two but if I was hard pressed, I would probably lean towards the Vanderkley (which I have to admit that I purchased). That does not mean that the BB2 was by any means inferior (though being a pre-production model had some minor quality issues that I am sure that have been fixed by now) compared to its Dutch counterpart. My feeling (and I emphatically repeat, for my taste and needs) was that the EXT had a better overall balance for (small) live /studio / home practice use whereas the BB2 sometimes felt to me as being a bit “too much”. There were (of course, being in the south-east part of Mediterranean) some steamy arguments about both cabs (as well as for the others but to a lesser extend) and which one was the best. One thing I can say though, is I can easily live with either of them with the confidence that both of them are excellent cabs backed up by very prompt, friendly and courteous support from their manufacturers Marc and Alex. I would like to thank them both for the experience they provided me with. Here is a jam with the BB2 https://www.youtube....h?v=cW3NCWz5zEo And here is one with the Vanderkley https://www.youtube....h?v=rMbWrns0CRw
17. For small clubs, I 've been really happy with the Genz Benz Streamliner 600 paired with a Vanderkley EXT112.
18. Gorgeous bass of excellent MIJ quality and playability. If it wasn't for the Fiesta Red JB I'm making, I would have sent the pm by now. Good luck.
19. It was an idea, becoming a "decision", brought to the table under the influence of locally (as well internationally) brewed goodies, on a Saturday night beginning of May. Usually those decisions / promises have a life span of couple of hours (no later than the "morning after"). This one though, stuck in our minds for a little longer. A gig, tribute to the bass, by the bassists. It was Wednesday 18th of June, a warm night in Athens, couple of days after full moon (and a good thing that was, since you don't want to let all those bassists loose on stage under a full moon) when the gig took place at Lazy Club. Booked the club and we gathered about 40 (or more) basses (the majority owned by my good friend and excellent bassist John) on display, accessible to anyone who wants to see them, observe them and try them. At the same time, about 15 bassists were invited, about have a dozen singers, 2-3 guitar players, 4 (I think) drummers, in order to jam on stage. Some of the songs agreed couple of hours before the gig but most of them on-the-fly. I am very proud that I was a part of this happening (just assisting in organising, not playing) and I wanted to share it with you. Although the whole gig was taped (one way or another), here is the opening song with two basses (later there cases with three (!!)) on stage. I hope you like it. 20. Here is a youtube link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e51OT8dyS7M with a jam video we did with SL112 as part of an extensive test of five 1x12 cabs in a music forum in Greece. With all due respect to SL which I do consider it a very good cab, I believe that, at almost the same price, first the Barefaced Big Baby 2 and at a lower price, the Vanderkley 112EXT (both at the same test), in a different way each one, are better cabs . I am sorry but i've heard the Berg only once and for a very short time to have an opinion for a comparison. Of course the above should be taken with all the usual disclaimers such as IMHO and YMMV... .
21.
Your drummer's not bad.
Thank you but actually the only one in my band is the guitarist (George). John in bass and Demetris in drums are session musicians (in Greek popular music therefore they grab any chance for a jam in rock/pop/funk/soul/reggae etc. ) It is fantastic how they jammed for about an hour (with occasionally fantastic results) with all 5 cabs without a single word about how, what, when. Just on the fly, following each other.
22. I do believe that the 112EXT is an excellent piece of gear at a reasonable price and Marc (Vanderkley) is a wonderful guy to deal with. The cab went through a series of our tests and was consistently an excellent performer. Here is a utube link with a jam with using the 112EXT cab. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMbWrns0CRw
23. And here is a fresh video, straight from the oven , with couple of friends jamming, using the BBB2 (part of a European bass cab test we did perform). JB, P-Bass and a Nathan East for a wide spectrum of sounds. But mics don't do it justice. You got to be there to appreciate it.
