I'd say Gibson BUT I always recommend playing one first and deciding for yourself. After all it's the difference between a <£300 bass or £1,100 one. Either way, your after a real nice bass

I know for definite that they feel better for me and for me that's something that is important as sound can be changed via modifications and amps.

Welcome to bass chat! Princess Orys Thanks for the story, it's really nice and detailed other than your evil cousin I'm joking, it's logical really. I have to say, i have seen that Spear on the 'For sale' part of this forum with some nice detailed pics, no more than £250 if I remember correctly. Seems really nice and a steal for the price. Ibanez basses, does your friend play guitar? I cannot say a nice word about these, higher end models are fine but the budget range I think you would have to try for yourself if your picky like myself. If you are really after a Pbass and your sticking to a budget, try a Squier "vintage modern", "artists" and "classic vibe' range for sure. They might not be anything near your old bass and nothing like a real high quality Fender but Squiers quality over the last few years has improved so much, they're worth every penny! There is also a brand called, Bass Collection who have been awarded Best bass under £1,000 and have created quite a buzz, I'd advise you check them out. Water under the bridge anyway, you seem a cool guy I believe that you have to keep searching and trying different models until you find the one for you, after all, every piece of wood is different. I have tried a few of the standard selection and I can see what you mean by the necks, they do collect abit of grime and sweat but ive never experienced this as they're pretty clean and out of the box condition, my own I look after and clean often. I agree some epi's could kick the sh*t outa the Gibson versions but I look towards the foreseeable future and think which I'd be happier with and which is going to last, hence a few gibsons in my arsenal and my eye out for a custom shop. I think they should have brought back the Studio basses instead of the short scale, which seem to be sitting on the shelves collecting dust! Anyone make much of these shorter scales?

Quite a rare colour to find but wouldn't surprise me if theyll bring it out in the next year or two like they did with the firebird.
