  1. Id echo a few sentiments here. I'm a Barefaced user (original 15" compact) and it does exactly what I wanted it to do when I bought it i.e be easy to carry. Does it sound as good as the cheapo Eden 4x10 it replaced - no. Is there a trade off on sound for the lightweight carry ability of the barefaced? Yes. It does sound good and is very lightweight. It doesn't do as some mentioned on other threads though and replace a bigger cab tone/sound wise...for me
  2. In original box. Lived on my pedal board so immaculate condition other than velcro on bottom. After a DCX Bass pedal so this is funding this or would consider part ex. Knock a few quid off if collecting from Bolton. If not above price can include UK postage
  3. With my current band going ampless pretty much its time to let my Mesa go. Lovely valvey tone in a small easy to carry package. Only points to note - the volume pot could do with a blast of electric cleaner as can be crackly when adjusting. Secondly the previous owner fitted a switch on the back (see pics) that can turn the fan on and off which is great for when using to record. Collection would be from Bolton or postage within the UK could be discussed.
  4. Im currently in a 5 piece indie/rock covers band playing small/medium pubs say 50-150 people. Current rig is a flats loaded Jazz bass into a Mesa Walkabout head into a Barefaced original compact cab. I have an ‘always on’ cali76 compressor and a Mosfet bass drive for some rockier songs. Volume wise im never over quarter of the way on the Mesa’s volume pot and we do feed a little bass to FOH. However, recently the singer wants less stage volume and the PA to do most of the work and he stands out front during sound check and can tweak levels/mix as necessary. In view of this im wondering if i could get away with going back ‘all valve’ with the 30w ashdowns. I like my tone oldschool with a bit of hair but not full on mushy distortion. As the PA will be doing most of the work i think i could get away with it. Ive had an LB before but that was through a knackered old ampeg 1x15 and i have read my Barefaced is supposedly uber efficient. Has anyone done something similar with decent results? Whilst i get stage volume will be lower in my new scenario i still want to feel and hear that thump behind me
  5. Now in stock at Bass Direct. Very intrigued as a 'groundwound' user https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/la-bella-sp-47107-super-polished-bass-strings-4-string-set-47-107/
  6. New bass incoming so postage may now be available from end of this week
  7. This weeks GAS - EBS T-90 valve amp

Ooh I tried one of those a few years back at Absolute Music. Wasn't as loud as I hoped or expected.

  8. cheers, corrected
  9. Love the colour and how it contrasts with the gold-ish guard and maple neck. Way out of my price range and the messed about electrics make it non original anyway
  10. My back up bass is for sale! The necks on these things are lovely. Very thin depth wise meaning you can really fly around the board. Fitted with Elites Groundwound strings to give a nice bit of beef to the sound. Initially i planned to swap the pups out but there is absolutely no need, they sound great. Only “issue” is a paint ‘flake’ on the arm contour. No dent in the actual wood so not a clue how it happened, was there when i bought it. Cant feel it when playing and i have reflected in the price. Collection would be from Bolton or can meet within reasonable distance (Im travelling from Bolton to Birmingham on Weds next week so something could be done around that) Finally as I use a dual gig bag this doesn't come with a bag or case. I could get hold of a cheap gigbag if this is a deal breaker

That is genuinely stunning!
  12. Hard to see on the pic fully but is it straight jack to right angle jack?
  13. When your For Sale gear isnt shifting and you have your eyes on a stunning p bass :(

I tend to step away from anything desired as stunning, as I've generally no plans to hit anybody with it. 🙂

  14. I tried Sell Us Your Guitar's online quote system. About a week later they sent me a rather insulting offer. I assumed I would maybe get two thirds of the price that i would get by selling privately but they offered about 25% of a private sale value. I declined their offer and sold the bass a few days later for much much more
  15. From memory of the Picatos the Elites are slightly higher though its been a while since i played picatos. I really miss their silkless flats, very old school with a pillowy 'whhoooomf' that ive not found since
  16. I used top love their groundwounds and full on flats. However, they did change towards the end and the flats went from fantastic (pre silk ends) to dead and cardboard boxxy when they also added black silks at the ends - the E was unusable. I now use Elites groundwounds, a bit brighter/livelier but settle down well. I think they also used to make the Status strings as they also offer a 'halfround' but stock died out when picato went under
  17. I have a black/black/maple MIJ 75 jazz that i love but id LOVE one this colour!
  18. Here we have a black/black/maple with white blocks and binding from 1997. I have swapped the pups for toneriders but originals come with the bass. The previous owner also swapped the white guard for the current black one which looks much better in my opinion - again i do have the original somewhere. Furthermore the period correct thumbrest and chrome covers have been attached. Lovely growly tone with its currently Elites Groundwound strings. Weighs 9lbs8oz with its Ash body. The previous seller bought it from Bass Bros and attached in the pics is the original ad. Only selling as a lovely P bass has come up. If that goes ill look to withdraw this. I also have the Squier version in the exact same colour scheme (the VM 77 Jazz) which has an uber thin neck that ill also probably list. Collection would be from Bolton or could meet within reasonable distance. *more pics to follow once ive cleared storage*
  19. Tempted to see if i can shift my MIJ Jazz to fund this 🤔
  20. Once saw a GnR tribute band called Pistols & Petunias which i thought was witty
  21. Getting really quite bad GAS for a fireglo Ric bass.  Never really played one and dont know where this latest want has come from!?!

Rics are the best basses money can buy, so that's reason enough!

There can be variations in instruments, so it's a good idea to try one or two and see how you like them.

2006 on they have the push/pull pot for vintage sound, and adjustable pole pieces. Earlier Ricks have slimmer necks. Although my experience is limited to the three 4003 Ricks I've owned :)

Who knows where GAS comes from? But it does always seem to strike.... at some point.
As mentioned above, try a couple if you can. There are always a few on eBay, and some on here too. Keep an eye out for next time one comes up near you, or ask a friendly nearby fellow BC member if you can try theirs? Rics have their fans and their detractors - but a good one is a great bass.

  22. Tom bought a pedal off me and turns out we lived fairly close by. As luck would have it my lad had a footy match even closer by so a carpark meet was arranged and deal was done. Effortlessly smooth transaction and always good to meet a fellow BCer in person
  23. I watched Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds a few weeks back in Wigan. The bass player (Russ Pritchard) totes a very nice looking 60's P bass which sounded phenomenal! Backline seemed to be a Fender Bassman 8x10. For one song he also pulled out what appeared to be a 70's fireglo ric.....just in case anyone was interested
  24. Had one years ago and the best tone ive ever probably had. Since i sold mine ive bought a barefaced cab and cant help wondering if i could get away with one of these for live gigs. Have a bump for a top amp
