  1. I wanted to give the Hartke a go through my cab (old barefaced 1x15 compact) but alas didnt have a speakon to jack cable with me. Maybe next time ill give it a go as i really want to see if the head was giving it the beans or the cab
  2. At rehearsal last night i took my usual barefaced/Orange rig and set up as usual. In the corner of the room was the rehearsal spaces house rig. I plugged in directly to see what it was like, straight in without my cali76 and SV bassrig. WOW!!!! It sounded absolutely massive. Tight, deep and that genuine kick to the chest. Absolutely stunning! I assume most of it was the cab (a big 1x18 peavey) which would be completely out the question for me gigging but it just reminded me that with all this lightweight technology we definitely seem to have lost something. And here it is in all jts glory…
  3. If you fancy an experiment I've a couple of sets of used Elites Groundwounds (cut for 4 in a row with generous winds). Happy to post you a set for nowt if you want to give them a bash. Supposedly used by Mani of the Roses. Ive always loved them but moved back to their full flats recently
  4. That fireglo is a stunner. Id love a ric (real or fake) fireglo at some point
  5. Oooh, been wanting to try one of these heads for a while, alas i am fully cabbed up. GLWTS
  6. Morning all. Dont suppose anyone knows the size of screw used by orange for their Bass Terror at all? Its the screws that hole the main cage/lid onto the amp. The OG ones are seemingly made of cheese and strip at the sight of a screw driver. Looking to upgrade them to something a bit stronger
  7. These seem to be getting a bit rarer but despite chasing one of these for years after selling my first i think i need to acknowledge my back needs some lighter weight gear. Here we have a USA made SVT III which preceded the current 3pro's. This one has the much famed SVT IIP preamp couples with a big old led sled solid state power amp. 3 x 12AX7's give it a nice throaty growl but there is no full on valve distortion here just a nice old school type roar. Is missing one slider cap but can still be changed with a plectrum - not that i use the graphic EQ anyway. A few of the pots could do with a blast of deoxit as the amp has been set at my fave EQ and never really changed. I dont have a rack case or anything so ideally its collection from Bolton only but could meet within reason. Possibly consider a part ex for an Ashdown Little Bastard/CTM30 Pics to follow asap
  8. Lovely looking bass that!
  9. Anyone recommended an attenuator for the DI on an Orange Bass Terror?  I believe the one i need is -40db to fix the 'Hot DI' isues?

  10. I bought this as a B-Stock item from Guitar Village as i desperately wanted to have a P bass back in my arsenal. However, with slight arthritis in my hands i really do pick up my jazz bass for anything other than a bit of house noodling and as such i want to cash it in to fund a backup jazz I've seen. These are MIM but to vintage specs including slab rosewood fingerboard, alder body, reverse kluson type tuners and threaded saddle bridge. Even the tort guard has a slight celluloid look to it with indentations where the tugbar is a really nice depth to the tort. I've fitted tonerider pickups as i do to all my basses but the originals come with the bass. Ive also whacked on some GHS Precision Flats for the old-school tone. Pics including the dent near the forearm (reason it was B stock) to follow asap. I have since slightly filled the chip with black nail varnish which makes it much less noticeable. For me, my favourite precision colours are the 50's style burst/gold/maple and then this burst/tort/rosewood - just a classic look. Part ex wise/trade wise id consider something valvey - Ashdown Little Bastard/CTM30 or my ideal amp an EBS T90. Bass wise im pretty sorted but i am partial to MIJ fender basses. Sale muchly preferred. No case for this as i use a dual gig bag for my gigs so it would be collection from Bolton or could potentially arrange meets. Pics to follow asap
  11. For some reason my Gen 1 Barefaced compact doesn't have feet and there are no holes to suggest it ever did. I have thought about adding some as one regular place we play has a laminate floor that doesn't appear to be particularly level and the cab rocks slightly on that surface
  12. To quote one of my favourite movies Snatch - you could land a fackin jumbo jet in that!
  13. lovely looking Jazzer has come up at Richtone:- https://richtonemusic.co.uk/fender-1977-jazz-bass-black-2nd-hand/ Bit on the weighty side mind and not much details about the originality of the guts also the pic of the E side neck pocket seems to show a huge gap?
  14. Bought a B stock Vintera II P bass recently in a lovely burst/tort/slab rosewood but after being a Jazz bass player for so long I'm really struggling with the neck. Maybe time to sell and go for a Hama Okomoto P Bass!

  15. So ive had a Ric itch for quite a while now and been looking at this particular one for some time:- https://richtonemusic.co.uk/rickenbacker-4001-1978-autumn-glo-hard-case-2nd-hand/ It seems to have sold once and been returned a few months back (ive watched it for a while). Obviously i have concerns it has been returned although it may just have not suited the buyer. From what i can see there is a reasonable tail lift that i would absolutely want more pictures of before travelling to Sheffield to see it fully. Love the colour and the 'mojo' but is there anything else obvious from the photos that i should ask for more in depth pics of before travelling to actually try the bass. This will be (potentially) my first ric being mainly a J and P player so me knowledge here is very limited. Cheers in advance..
  16. Are we allowed to discuss rickenbackers on this forum now?  Ive seen a used vintage one but have a few concerns id like to run by someone more experienced than me

  17. Lacks quite a bit of low end. I know Mark Stroemer or however you spell it who played bass on the track used a modified Boss Blues Driver for a lot of the Hot Fuss album and had that kind of tome on a lot of the songs
  18. As above, ive always had great experiences with Elites, nice and cheap too. Unfortunately for me there seems to be a current shortage of their flatwounds!
  19. I know a lot of people look for authentic looking vintage fender pickguards but usually they look for the yellowy red almost lava type tort but would anyone know where i may find something like this? I believe its a 66 P bass but very much a dark red with little yellow or even depth really?
  20. Latest GAS - EBS T90 valve head!

  21. A mid 60's precision in burst/tort/rosewood and a Ampeg B15 to go with it. Im a simple man really
  22. Tip I had was to undo one of the screws holding the ampeg logo in slightly. Get a towel/cloth round the exposed screw then use some pliers to pull it
  23. Im very much an old school tone kinda guy - p's and j's via a Origin Bassrig SV and cali76 into an old SVT non pro and always flatwounds. I like a 'just on the edge of an SVT breaking up' kind of thing. I recently purchased a gorgeous 60's Vintera II and loves its vintage spec - slab rosewood board, tall narrow frets, alder body, reverse tuners etc but am finding the pickup slightly lacking. Here come the basschat clichés but I'm not necessarily after thumpy Motown tones but that dry, woody, growly open p bass tone. The kind of thing where when you hit the low notes it goes all guttural and throaty without sounding muddy or woolly. I like the highs to be open but not brittle or harsh and most importantly i want it to be very even across all strings. If i was to give an example of the tone it would be this (i know its not everyones cup of tea)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZvz14paUHU I suppose its kinda reminiscent of U2 - Where The Streets but with more depth and lows yet never muddy and always open sounding. Or even more so this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znoxSwzjI3A Previously I've had decent joy with Toneriders though they lacked a little 'dynamic'. Im maybe wondering if something more 'boutique' like Lollars would get me closer to my tone goal?
  24. Local to me, right by the Bolton Wanderers ground. Used them a lot for PC parts and always bang on. Last time I was in they had loads of Hughes and kettner valve amps all nicely lit up on display
  25. I have this exact cab and its is fantastic and that is coming from someone who isn't traditionally a barefaced fan! Really good cab, GLWTS
