1. They look ace! Will give you a shout and we'll sort something soon, I need to liberate my SCs from the band lock up first ...
2. Have you gone for the black or silver grille? When they do arrive we need to catch up over a cuppa and compare Super Compact with Two10
3.
An [Oh-God-I've-Got-GAS-for-this] -type bump.
You'd better buy it then....
4. I want all 12
5. Price £700 now includes UK shipping
6. Very nice!
7.
Indeed. 35[sup]1[/sup]/[sub]2[/sub] hours. Tsk tsk. Now, if I were a Mod...
Unless I can't count it was 12 hours
8. Cracking cabs, I have two and they're my favourite cab ever. Just watch out for the 36 hour bumping rule GLWTS
9. Cheers! It's a great amp, my first all valve head (in fact still my only all valve head, the BTA being a hybrid preamp!) and I love it to bits but I have to follow my one in one out rule, and obey she who... well yes, exactly..,
10. SOLD I bought this last year from Chenzman and it's a cracking amp but frankly I have too many amps and don't need them all! This is in "OK" visual condition - some slightly rusty corner protectors, some scuffs and tiny rips n the vinyl covering - but excellent internal following a service with Ashdown who declared it 100% fit and healthy and with a long active life ahead of it. The fan is quite noisy but that's my only gripe with it, it sounds brilliant through my Barefaced cabs and certainly not muddy or muffled or any other nonsense you hear said about Ashdown. This has heft and punch as well as depth and warmth - it sounds great, simple as that. £180
11. I had the Vintage, which was the precursor to this. Absolutely cracking cab, glad you like
12. Another new amp is going to be the Rootmaster800, which looks pretty sweet. Same power section as this Retroglide I believe
13. It's bizarre, definitely in my top five bass amps I've ever played because it sounds so good, is so simple and bulletproof. I made a friend buy one last year to replace his aging Laney combo and he's incredibly happy with it. Hope it shifts soon for you
14. Cracking amp, cracking price
15. Ah new photos now showing a 4! A bargain
16. Thanks chaps Pictures as promised, the second one shows the only blemish I can see on the amp which was there when Gareth originally bought it I understand:
17. Sold pending the usual So after nabbing myself a BTA200 I need to make room or I may get murdered by my better half - she's already told me off for having three bass amps at home so the fourth is the straw threatening the camel's back... I'll get photos up tonight, this is in excellent condition and includes a RoqSolid cover. About 14 months old I believe, I bought it from Walbassist last January. It's a cracking amp, passive tone stack with 100W 2xKT88 valve output stage which sings. A lovely creamy tone and a fabulous break up, it's a brilliant amp with all the valve benefits minus the weight - 19kg I believe (certainly smaller and lighter than the BTA which is a behemoth!) Collection preferable, UK mainland shipping will be £30. I could deliver around the south eastern portion of the M25 (Jct 2 to 10) if it helps - I'm near Jct 8 but work near Jct 3.
18. Status Retroactive J into an Ashdown BTA200 and two Barefaced Super Compacts:
19. I currently own 3 Ashdown amps: I have to say I think it's their speakers which let them down, these all sound incredible through my Barefaced cabs - full bodied but punchy and articulate as well. I once had the misfortune of gigging a Hartke HA3500 through an Ashdown MAG 8x10 cab - should have been plenty but the cab ruined the Hartke's sizzle completely. Worst rig I ever used, dare I say it was an Ampeg SVT stack, again the cab just sucked the life out of the tone so it was inaudible unless stood directly in front of it... Have never managed to successfully (IMO) gig an Ampeg rig actually....
20. Our drummer *almost* summed it up well: "So this is bigger, heavier and sounds the same. Well done." To my ears it doesn't sound the same, it's got a hell of a lot more balls and bottom end, even when flat it is monstrous, and it doesn't run out of puff on the higher-volume gigs like yesterday's. The CTM is a fantastic amp but obviously when pushed it gets that valve clipping and squishing of the notes, which is lovely but not quite right for the majority of my gigs. I like the full blooded valve power section just before tipping point; the BTA achieves that where the CTM would on those occasions struggle. Don't get me wrong, the CTM is brilliant and is perfect for probably 60% of my gigs, the remaining 40% need the BTA though... Not convinced the band or the missus are too happy about that
21. Forgot to say what I've learned: 1. I really need to practice more 2. Practice would be good 3. I probably will have a completely different rig again by the end of the year, just because I can 4. More time should be spent practicing rather than looking at shiny new toys. It is in fact a resolution I have made, to practice every day from here on in. And to run more, and cycle. But they won't help my bass playing so much. 5. Practice.
22.
Paddy Ashdown?
Paddy Ashdown Forest I have a few too many amps now it seems:
23. BTA200 - still an absolute beast and one of only about 20 in existence apparently, according to the man himself
