1. Last few basics have gone for quite a bit lower. Wont suggest a price her as its your sale. I ended up Px'ing mine to bass direct. Shame as they are really top quality instruments. Light weight with a great neck and pre amp. Have a bump.
2.
Well perhaps a little However, the general sentiment is true, Fender are just not 'the best' any more, at anything, and certainly not Precisions. All they're doing to maintain market position is producing an almost interminable flow of 'signature', road-worn and relic instruments, most of which are all pretty much the same as each other barring the colour scheme and a few idiosyncratic details. OK, they have improved the quality of their budget instruments hugely, and should perhaps be praised for doing so, but in the context of 'best' - which is what this thread was about - they're not even top 5. My comment re FCS wasn't all exaggeration however, play a Yammie BB1024 against many FCS Precisions or P/Js and all you'll notice when you leave the shop is the extra grand in your bank account. OK, I'm no great fan of the look of the Yammie, but the build quality, playability and tone are outstanding, and you get the feeling you are playing an instrument built by a company that is constantly striving to make better instruments, not simply more instruments. This years I've sold all my Fenders - including a couple of CSs - but kept the Yamahas. In fact this is the first time in almost 20 years that I don't have a Fender. If I wanted a high quality Precision that I can't get off-the-peg or on here, I'd probably build one from custom Warmoth parts. And my comment re Ric, probably understatement
totally agree my yammie 1025 is spot on, a quality instrument but I still find myself looking at the good old humble fender P. I am also spending a lot of time looking at the Jake 4p they have a fiesta red pino a like for about 650 which looks a bargain
3.
Oh... you should have said earlier. In that case - Maruszczyk. I was hanging on for the new Lakland Skyline PJ with blocks. When it came out, they couldn't guarantee the weight, and a lot of the parts a aren't the best quality. When I spotted the Jakes, I couldn't believe my luck. My exact spec, for a few hundred quid less, and it's not made in Indonesia. IMO, anyone considering a Lakland, Sandberg, Fender, wether USA, German, Japanese. Indonesian or otherwise, should at least check these out first. I'm painfully aware that I bang on about them all the time, but I'm doing everyone a favour :-)
what is the hardwate on the jake like? can the p pups be swapped out for standard p sized pups (|SPD1/3 etc and what are their own pups like? id want to fit a drop d tuner what size and type of tuners do they fit?
4. I think the Z5 serial number dates this to 2005 and that the p bass 60th anniversary was 2011. neither fact takes away that this is a fine looking USA p bass at a great price. have a bump
5.
Think the last pic in original post shows the original black plate off the bass. I think Adam is somewhat attracted to tort guards so he must have changed it at some point but original supplied too...

1st post states only non original part is plate.
sorry guys must have missed that! have a bump
6. Is that a replacement pick guard? I thought tort was only on white and sunburst
7. I've owned one and it was a great bass. Single Pup redburst fantastic neck. bought it second hand but in immaculate/unused condition. You cant go wrong but id deffo look second hand. They don't seem to hold their price and are such a steal its criminal. Highly recommended
8.
I decided to go for it in the end. I will get it on Monday. Without asking for anything I've been sent a Leathergraft strap, 3m cable and a set of D'addario EXLs. I'll be sure that if I decide at a later date to go for the BB2025 to speak to the same guy who's been sorting me out with this one.
so how did it go? Hope all was good Oh and pics please ☺
9.
I'd still make the purchase, the 1-0's are leaps ahead of the 4-2's in my opinion & I have both. Not that there's anything wrong with the 4-2's. In a few weeks you'll have forgotten about the inconvenience & you'll just be diggin on your new bass.
plus 1 on giving it another go. I tried 4 other basses from dv247 (they werw great tbh) before coming back to the yammie bb (1025) the wait was worth it. Lovely smooth neck and i cant put it down. The messing about is a distant memory now.
10. I had the CB 1024 not seen any photos that show it up as nice as it is in the flesh. More of a honey burst with nice grain showing through
11. My 1024 had one small apot around the 15th fret that felt, not rough, but just not as smooth as the rest. I just decided to get on with it and it never bothered me playing it. My 1025 however is like silk throughout the whole neck. Id suggest maybe try the two basses A-B ed against each other with tour band and see if you prefer the 1025 sound. Then youll know if its worth the wait. Now ive found a real nice one I dont wanna put it down!
12.
...and I just missed out on that metallic red beauty of yours Mark! Even when you've had them, these Yams are hard to leave alone, eh, especially at this price!! ;-)
CorrectBobby Bbs are the business , after selling my 1024 I couldn't get on with anything else so got myself a 1025 as im wanting to give a 5er a good go. If I take to it ill be on the lookout for a 425 as a back up. Dont need this but at that price its crying out 'buy me!'
13.
I've made a decision and ordered a 1025 in tobacco brown sunburst. It's the sensible choice for me given how well it fits in with the band & material that we cover and will make my 425 a very capable backup.
fine choice Im sure you wont be disappointed. Im thinking of going the other way and picking up a 425 when i have a few quid spare! Look forward to a NBD where you can let us know how they compare
14. The bbs are heavy end of! that was the reason I went looking at others but in the end the tone. String spacing and playability brought me back. My current 1025 came better set up and balances better than my 1024 without a hint of neck dive on a wide leather strap. I still get pain after several hours so am considering other strap options. ive only played 1 424 and thought it was very good but got a good deal on my 1025 so decided it was worth the extra. The upgrades are quite substantial but if your gonna notice a massive difference im not so sure. Maybe if you can order one with a 30 day return A-B it with your 425 in a band setting and decide then.
15. If you can find one that is. My Ibanez flirtation didn't work out (fantastic bass but just didnt sound as good in my band situation as the BB) so I've gone back to a BB I ended up getting onto Yamaha London who gave me an offer of a great price on the 1025 and 425. I wanted to go for a 1025 but when it came to it they couldnt source one! non in uk, Japan etc. I ended up getting a 1025 from dv247 via their Musicstore in Germany. they even matched Yamaha London's price it came set up perfectly even better than the 1024 I had previously. when I had bought the 1024 Mark at bass direct had said they were being discontinued. Perhaps they're too close to the 20?? series if you want one and can source one get it. If not there are plenty of 425s about and they really represent the best value put there at the moment IMHO
16. Whats this one weigh? Any case and tools?
17. Think the serial number dates this to sept 2012. Top bass great price i can only think a lack of feedback might be holding some back. glwts

19. Still up? Prob too heavy for my ageing back but a killer sound
20.
The P pickup in 415 is alnico as well, with traditional polepieces though as opposed to bars is 1025. The J is ceramic in both.
does anyone know if the 425 is ceramic or alnico? sounds killer anyway so i know it doesnt matter too much!
21. If you can stretch to the 1025 id go for it. If your unsure i think the 425 is about the best value out there. Lots of bass for little cash=win win
22.
I'm one of the few who actually prefers the 424 over the 1024. Mainly because it does an accurate Precision impression, whereas the 1024 sounds a bit more 'refined' to my ears. The 1024 is better made but the 424 is still superbly put together and an absolute bargain for what it is.
Couldn't agree more. Im anout to wave my 1024 off to the courier and had a sleepless night thinking about it. Just bagged a new ibby 5 string hoping the close string spacing will work with my bust hand. If it dont its going back on my 30 day return and a 425/1025 will be my replacement. Yes they're too heavy for me but oh the tone!
23. Are the 1025s worth the money ? Would I be better holding out for a secondhand one ? yes to both
24. Ive just sold my 1024 to a guy in Australia! Was up on here but noone seemed genuinely interested. Not posted it yet and already know im gonna miss it. Ive had several usa p basses and for me the yammie beats them hands down. Not owned a 42? But played a 424 at pmt and thought wow these are good. Bought the 1024 blind and it was excellent
