1. i played the FLs on mon night lovely tone acoustically and have a nice feel to them. The E and A sounded a little muddy to me though . D and G were clear and bright but not too toppy. hoping they'll mellow out nicely as im getting fed up paying out for flats!
2. got my 760 FLs strung and feel great if not a little light for me. see how they go in practice tomorrow night
3. just bought one. code worked and if you have prime and select no rush delivery you get a £1 digital credit. ive effectively been paid 1p to have a new tuner. Winner!
4. Chromes are very smooth and silent but as bright as rounds to my ears (which as why Im selling mine!) they feel great to play. I do have a fresh set on so cant speak as to how bright they stay over time
5. I've been wondering this very question myself. Having done a little research I've decided to try the 760FLs based on positive reports on a more balanced feel but they're only slightly different in gauge and I imagine they're both excellent sets of strings. Sean Hurley uses the FLs so cant be bad!
6. Ive found Daddario chromes to be too bright for me as a flatwound but they have a good roundwound sound and the smooth feel of flats
7. Fenders packet has been opened but strings are new and unused. Chromes have been fitted with 1-2 hours play max
8.
Nah, Sunburst is best
Yep think your right
9.
What's an NBF? Have I missed something..?
Ha ha sorry new bass fortnight. Saw it on here a few weeks ago and thought it a good idea to leave my review till after my honeymoon/buyers remorse had passed and id given it a gig
10.
You made the right choice Beautiful 3TS sunburst. Fine instruments : quality parts, period correct details, beautiful colors etc... I love the neck, thin and wide like the old ones. Less expensive than a Custom Shop as you already have the Relic look. But in your case, a REAL Relic/Road Worn status With Flats it is delicious. I also stare at the Faded Blue version sometimes
yes i too find myself drooling over the faded sonic blue, stunning
11. After 20 odd yrs of trying many different basses passive/active 4 string 5 string sandberg yamaha squier fender Musicman etc etc I decided to go full circle and go back to my roots with a Nice P bass. I Sold my yammie 5 string and Squier CV p bass on the forum which left me bassless!. Bobby K had bought my Yammie (its now touring with the Christians), lives not too far away, and was kind enough to loan me his bitsa P while I got sorted (cheers Bobby -top man) I saw an AVRI 63 P bass on gumtree in Glasgow. The seller was reluctant to post, didnt have a paypal account and didn't want to give me his bank details to transfer the cash to him. Meet half way at Carlise? sorry I don't drive was his answer After many emails to and fro I decided to jump in with both feet and blow all my money on it! booked a return to Glasgow and went up on the train to collect. I met the seller in central station and he was a nice guy, . He had only had the bass less that a year, bought from guitar guitar in Glasgow but had not looked after it at all. he had been jamming pedals in the case with the bass and it was dinged up with plenty of 'mojo' going on in the nitro finish. so much so that I was almost going to return home empty handed. I felt like someone rescuing a puppy from a poor owner to give it a better life so we cut the deal, chewed the fat bass wise for half an hour and than I jumped on the train back to Liverpool. I took it home gave it a set up. Neck and pocket dates are 2015 so its only about 6 months old. plays like a dream and is nice and light. was wearing an old set of ernie ball flats and has a lovely woody thump almost upright in sound. I fitted a set of chromes to it but they were too brittle and trebley for me so I took them off and put them in the for sale section! (might give a few weeks if no one wants them as Ive heard they mellow nicely) sounded great at rehearsals and was gigged wearing the old flats last night for the first time in the new band line up as a trio .Wow! classic vintage P bass tones by the Bucket load (no pun intended) sat in the mix but could be heard clearly, deep without being boomy very impressed. are they worth £1500 plus new? maybe not, are they worth the extra if your considering a USA P bass at £1220? yes I think so. I love the nut and bolt technology of it, the big reverse tuners the BBOT threaded saddle bridge that makes string position so easy and the pick up is the best sounding P bass pick up I've tried. That said the fender original in Bobby's bitsa sounded sweet so it shows with the right PUP and strings you DONT need to spend megabucks to get a great P tone. I may have been put off by the dings at first but Ive grown to like them over the last fortnight, although id never have allowed the bass to get as many knocks in 6 months myself it now means I'm more relaxed and don't need to baby it. I suppose you could say I ended up with a 6 month old AVRI roadworn for less than the price of a new Mex roadworn P bass Pics are the ones sent to me by the seller. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3WmgaM02Z49aVVGOERiSVE3YkU
12. D'addario Chromes XL Medium 50-105 paid £31 bought this Wed and only used for 1 practice. Way too bright for me. Minimum trimmed from E & A. D & G uncut to fit P bass so should be good to go on pretty much any bass £25 delivered UK Paypal gift or bank transfer
13. I tried the Fender original in Bobby k's bitsa p bass and it sounded awesome! Very impressed
14. I've just picked up an AVRI 63 P bass that was wearing a well worn set of Ernie Ball flats, it has a lovely warm sound almost like an upright. I succumbed to the you tube videos of Garth Fielding waxing lyrical about the virtues of chromes and the wide range of tones available from them ( found out later that he has a stellertone tone styler on it and this prob helps shape his various tones) I decides to pick a set up. I couldn't see 45-105s so had to get 50-105 medium The tension needed to get them up to tune was so much I genuinely thought I was gonna rip my bridge off! I played them last night and have to sat I was disappointed as they were so bright and twangy. I had the tone fully off and it was still too bright. In fact they were so bright the tone control made little difference either way. My Question is they have many fans so are they worth sticking with? Do they mellow down quickly and are they capable of an old school thump? Got gigs coming up and don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater but cant decide whether to bang the EBs back on or play the hell out of the Chromes and hope they get to the sweet spot soon.
15. Davie bought some Optima flats from me. Quick payment great comms right through, top man enjoy!
16. Theyre 40-96 a hybrid gauge apparently. Nice just i preferred rounds and dont have the luxury of 2 p basses to have one strung with each!
17. MIke bought my Sonic Blue Squier CV60s P bass, money went in when he said, he organised the courier and kept in touch until it was safely in his hands. great guy to deal with, a real pleasure.
18. Optima flatwound strings cut for a p bass bought couple of weeks ago played for 1 hour max cost me £20 £15 posted
