1. Hi BC I'm in the process of practicing for ABRSM singing grades and I've realised I've forgotten soooo much of my music theory from decades ago. I've dug out my matt red ABRSM 'Rudiments and Theory of Music' book to revise the facts and I've purchased a few past papers. Also ldone a few on - line music theory tests on websites. I've read mixed opinions on The Musician's Guide to Theory and Analysis. Are the books worth getting in BC's opinion ? there seems to be the workbook and a more expensive version with audiology analysis. How many books are there in the series ? Are there any other books worth buying ?
2. Learned from Bert Weedon to set the strap for the height the bass or guitar is at when sitting balanced on your right thigh. Done it the same way since the early 70's and always found it comfortable. That position keeps the wrists at straighter angles, which is helpful with avoiding tendon and wrist strain issues no change of height for fingers or pick
3. Still have my first bass (Vox Clubman), bought in 1971. Hasn't been played in years, bless it
4.
You want to try a Friday lunchtime train from Liverpool to London - what a racket!
I recorded 110 db on the london central line
5. Guitar player repair guide by Dan Erlewine- almost a bible on the topic. Everything clearly explained.
6. My earplugs go everywhere with me and I wear them in the car, definately on the London underground, practically any time I play anything louder than an acoustic guitar. The TV at home is almost always quiet. If only I'd done all that before I got tinnitus
7. At last, someone with a bigger collection than many of us that will help with the guilt..
8. A high street audiologist may be able to help with this one. I see one at least yearly for a check on hearing and microsuctioning to get rid of accumulated wax. It's reassuring to keep regular tabs on hearing
9. For that price range, you may get a Tanglewood TN15, a friend compared my one to a Taylor. Another one would be a Seagull S6, which also seems to be pretty popular
10. Playing along with the first two LP's is a nice little warm up
11. I used a Stew Mac crowning file that's curved on one face at both ends (looks like an elongated 'S'). A little costly, but does the job nicely without a struggle, which makes for a nice finish
12. Exceptional condition
13. There's so much to be said about Chuck Berry and an RIP thread where people pay their respects to the man perhaps isn't the best place, so here's a thread for discussion of the man and his influence on music Whatever people say about the way he lived his life, I've no doubt that music wouldn't be what it is today without Chuck Berry. Rock and Roll just wouldn't be what it is without him. Without a doubt, the song I've played most often on stage is Johnny B Goode, everyone knows it. Later edit; Chuck's songs have been on my mind all day. This is one I won't forget A truly sad day Over to you
