1. I was down at Feline guitars last week (custom shop) and they had a gorgeous stingray type bass up for sale. They are usually built for £1699, but this one is up for grabs at £999 as they have had it in for a while. A peach of a bass in the flesh, I could have been really interested if it had had 5 strings instead of 4. Here's a pic: I have to say that the quality of their instruments in general was absolutely top drawer.
2.
If you modify the Reggie you might lose it's character and still not get what you want from it.
Yeah, you're probably right actually. I wasn't so keen on the weight of the status, I wonder if they make any that are lighter?
3. I really liked the very 'active' sound that I used to get from my Status S2 classic, and I was wondering if there is any way I can get that sort of sound from my current bass, a Fender Reggie Hamilton jazz 5? I've always been a big fan of the active sound that you get from Status basses, or maybe Stanley Clarke's Alembic sound. The bass feels great to play, but I really miss that old sound. It does have an active circuit, but it doesn't have the really modern sound that I really like. Could I replace the circuit, and if so, what with? The alternative would be to go for a different bass altogether, but I've not found anything that I like as much as this (other than a Spector NS-5).
4. Wow! two gorgeous basses in the same thread! I love the look of both of them.
5. If that had been a 5 string I could have been seriously tempted, I like a nice project.
6. well, thanks for the help .............. I guess ......... not all that helpful but it's the thought that counts [exit heavily disguised bump mode]
7. Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Pix Where are the pix?????????????? Andy did a very good job on reprofiling frets that I thought were dead a couple of years ago. I bought an american strat (here!) and all the middle frets had been stoned flat! I thought that it was going to be an expensive refret (maple neck) but he brought them back from the dead. I'd be interested myself but I couldn't wait that long ....

Not for me. If the neck wasn't the blue finish I could almost bear it.
9. Errrr ............... yeah, I'd prefer it that way but it appears to be a left-hander. So no-one knows?
10.
Like you I am a tele-addict.....Like it a lot....but why the massive neck pup cavity...(Aquarium)...maybe you could keep live fish in it....albeit very small ones...lol....
Keeping options open. I'm considering a mini-humbucker in the neck and I will also at some point try a middle SC as well. The fish tank would look funny - I'm going to bear that in mind (not with REAL fish though!). The clear scratchplate is so that I can drop pictures of choice behind it, I'm not planning on keeping the clear look - well, unless the fish thing is a goer .... Nice Tele's you have there!
11. Well, here it is anyway. My Midi/acoustic/mag pup tele-type guitar. Body and neck both from SIMS to my spec. I got the body and neck a few weeks ago, and sourced all the other parts from eBay or other internet places (so easy these days!). It has been great fun working out what to get, and putting it all together. A bit daunting drilling holes in the body and hacking lumps out with a chisel though! Basically I have put it all together to make sure that it all worked/fitted OK (the wiring was er ..... interesting! See pic below), but now unfortunately I have to take it all apart again as I need to get the body sprayed up. I have to say that the playability is AMAZING! Way better than I could have possibly hoped for, and that's even with the action not desperately low either. This is probably due to quality parts, SS frets and short scale length. I can't put this guitar down! I feel a bit gutted that I have to strip it down and do without it for weeks. Anyway, if anyone is interested, here are some pix: The whole guitar: Controls and trem. Knobs L to R: Magnetic volume with mag tone on top, midi volume, piezo volume (with pull-up for darker tone). Switches: L to R: midi up/down, coil split, Midi solo/midi plus last switch, magnetic/piezo/both. Sperzels, my machinehead of choice. Also graphtech nut. Back of guitar showing body contour, speed rout at neck join, cool plateless neck join, battery box and rout for wiring As mentioned before wiring was fun! I will be shortening some of these now that I know all is OK. So now I need to decide on a paint job! I'm basically thinking black back and sides and some sort of burst on the front. But I really can't decide. I might go conventional or might go for something mad, or I may even just oil the body and leave it like it is, as I generally prefer guitars that don't look too 'bling'. Anyway, that's where I'm at for now.
12. Someone here posted pics of this bass being built ages ago, and I was trying to find those pix as I really like the colour scheme and I was thinking of doing something similar. There was a nice angled shot of the body .... Anyone know who it belongs to?
13. Wow, lovely looking bass! I'm not in the market for a bass right now, but what a peach!
14. We are proud to announce that the blinkered bass player is not only alive and kicking, but in proud abundance. I'm so glad I signed up here, otherwise I might have tried, well, anything on a musical instrument. I hadn't reckoned on 'the law', how naive of me.
15. I really shouldn't be looking at other guitars, but it does sound intriguing. When are we going to see the pictures?
16. Very nice bass but I don't think I could handle a 6. Tip: delete all those old bumps .... gets real annoying wading through them.
17. 12 string graphite grand stick. PASV-4, £1450. Fascinating instruments. I'm not giving up on them, but I have two and I'm trying to get some money together for a GB spitfire bass. I live in Luton and work in London (NW9). How do you play it? There's a video of me playing (my other one) here: they are the same spec exactly but the video one is wood instead of graphite.
18. I thought that this guitar was a keeper when I bought it over a year ago, but it has (surprisingly) been ursurped by something else, and I'm trying to boost my GB spitfire fund so it needs to go looking for £1400. Not really expecting a buyer here but no harm in trying! It's dark blue, with trem, dragon II pups, 3 way switch, 20th anniversary birds (the best ones!). NOTE: The pix show 5 way switching, but I had the local PRS dealer swap it out for a 3-way + coil tap
19. Wow, great and informative post there, thanks a lot for the effort. I REALLY do want a GB bass, and the spitfire would be perfect as I like the jazz bass type shape in general. My current bass can be active or passive, but I'm a total active freak and that's all I ever use.
20. Questions: First of all, where can I get a big pic of Jessica Alba's ass? Sorry ....... that avatar is always distracting me! Difficult to know what to ask really, I'm in touch with Bernie via email already over spec related stuff, and I heard and saw them at the weekend show (although I felt a bit too cr*p to try one at the time - mistake!) Worth the money or just a wee bit of a mad indulgence? I just think that their spitfire in particular, when made from some lovely woods, is the most beautiful bass ever. The money seems a bit crazy when you can get a very excellent bass for £1K. Do you think that the quality of the bass, the playability and the sound are a good trade off for the cost? I love the look of the sound-to-light system as well, but it's MEGA expensive isn't it! I'd have to go for that at a later date. I used to have a Status bass with plain on-off LEDs and I absolutely loved them, so I'd really like to get something like that. Would you get it again if you lost your bass, or is it too indulgent for the money? I'm not really a bass player even, but at the grand old age of 47 I have been through various instruments in my life and I have gravitated to 'expensive' items along the way as more spare cash has materialised (my best electric, acoustic, bass and chapman stick are all over £2K new). There's something great about superbly made instruments! The bass that I have at the moment is extremely good already, and this makes me think that maybe I shouldn't go for a GB. I doubt that it will be any better than my Fender custom shop to be honest. I'd love to hear anything positive (or negative) that you have to say about GB basses ...
21.
Hey, they'll always get you noticed... even if it is for the wrong reasons. The amount of dep gigs that I have picked up because of them has been ridiculous. They can't remember my name but they still know me as the bass player with the flashy lights... (ok, the bass player with the killer grooves and chops would be preferable but it's a start...)
I assume that you have a GB bass then? What's your opinion of them in general?
22. Nah, I don't really want to be Mark King, but I'd love to get the basic elements of his style down. I can get the old thumb moving a bit, but fail somewhat with the finger snaps, and also my left hand doesn't know what to do at all! I was just wondering if there was anyone within about 20 miles or so from Luton who could give some lessons/pointers. Alternatively I work in London NW9. I've had a look at DVD stuff and tabs, but I don't get on with that stuff, I'm really a 'look and learn' sort of person. I realise this is probably a long shot, but no harm in asking!
