  1. The best sound I ever had was with a 700RB II and 2 Ashdown ABM MAG410 cabs. Unfortunately the only time that I could use it was with a really loud rock back with 3 guitarists all trying to be louder than each other. Not really the sort of thing that you need for a typical wedding gig
  2. The discussion in this thread is the reason when I see a bass advertised as "upgraded" with new pickups, I read it as "modified". How do you find that it changes the attack when you have one magnet per string direclty under the string as opposed to one either side of the string? Thinking that Precisions & Jazzes are each side of the string and Ricks & Musicman are single poles per string. Not counting some Delanos and other aftermarket pickups etc. Obviously their placement is completely different in all 4 basses mentioned above which will also affect the tone
  3. My one was a lockdown purchase and I've been using it since we were able to start giging again in August last year. I bought the bundle which included the power supply which is the one designed to fit underneath. I've been using it to power 4 boss style pedals, Pitchblack tuner and my Behringer heaphone amplifier. I couldn't justify spending hundreds on a power supply when this one does the job and doesn't add any extra noise for such a low cost. The only thing that it couldn't power was my Bassbone as it was 15v but I have recently sold this and will be using a Laney Digbeth preamp which will be able to be powered by this. The feet screw into the base so you shouldn't have to attach them every time. They can unscrew themselves but only very occasionally. In fact when I get around to it I'll get a spanner and tighten them sufficiently so that they don't come off. The bag itself seems decent enough. I don't have any worries about it falling apart. My gear only travels by car so I don't have to worry about it being thrown about in a van or something falling on top of it
  4. It won't be super accurate if you don't use D'addarios but look at the D'addario string gauge tension chart. Write down what the tension is for your current strings and then look to see what a similar tension would be in the different tuning. If there is a set in those gauges then go for it othewise you could build a set using singles
  5. I really don't like it. There's nothing endearing or Chiliesque about it. I feel that the Chilis stuff started getting weaker when Anthony started singing more rather than rapping and they started writing more ballads it started with I Could Have Lied on BSSM until you get to By the Way where pretty much every second song is a slow sort of ballad. I listed to I'm With You Once and it's the only Chilis album I don't own and have no intention of owning. Mother's Milk on vinyl is incredible. I don't know if it was a new mix but it definitely sounds like there is more going on than the original CD I enjoyed a lot of The Getaway - Dark Necessities was a great first single, a return to form and indicative of the album. If this song is the same for the new album then I don't think that I will bother
  6. it depends on the song. there are some songs that warrant keeping it simple, others are crying out for fiddly bits and improvisation. I'd consider myself to be a very busy player but not to the detriment of the band or the perfomance. I'm lucky to have ben given carte blanche to play pretty much whatever I want. I don't believe that It's a self confidence issue with me but a predecessor of mine had this issue. He had no idea what he was playing so his thinking was that if he played enough notes then eventually he'd hit the right ones
  7. Since watching one of Aaron from Warmoth's Youtube videos I use oversized Gotoh EP-B3 strap buttons and rubber washers on all of my basses. the combination of both means that the staps aren't going anywhere. I always leave my straps attached to my basses
  8. I bought one of these a couple of months ago. They're fantastic basses. The neck is a bit wider than I am used to as I normally play jazz necks but it's so comfortable that it didn't matter
  9. About 10 years ago i had an Epiphone Explorer and the only thing that I could get to fit it was something like a shotgun bag or a rifle bag, I forget which. It was sort of triangular shaped, padded and zipped all the way around
  10. Any bass will do what you want to do, just find the most comfortable one for you
  11. Wasn't it something about Flea wanting Sterling to make him a graphite neck model like the old Cutlass as the neck kept moving when he was touring on different continents but Sterling said no so Flea went to Modulus?
  12. I would explain to the customer that you all work and are unable to take time away from work to do this but assure them that you will be under the limit during the gig. A customer threatening to move their wedding to another venue is usually enough to persuade the venue to go with the next option: Arrange to arrive at the gig early, making sure that a member of staff who works office hours is there to oversee your soundcheck to make sure that you are under the limit. As you say it's easy enough to play under the limit, it can affect the overall dynamic of the gig, but at least you still get to play and the couple have their chosen band in their chosen venue
  13. I couriered all 3 of my vtype Trace cabs and they're 45kgs each. I think by the time I'd wrapped them in cardboard etc they were closer to 50kgs. To help the courier I had left holes in the sides to allow them to be carried by their handles.
  14. I've just spent most of the afternoon setting up my Squier CV 50s Precision with the Extra Slinkies. It normally takes about half an hour to change strings, adjust the neck, saddle height and intonation but this has been an epic set up Ordinarily, using the capo at the first fret and pressing down the E string where the neck joins onto the body I have it set between 0.012" & 0.015" but it's probably closer to 0.02". The saddle height is jacked way up as well. Anyway it's set up for my style of playing. first impression is that it is far easier to play quicker for longer. I started off with Iron Maiden's Killers. Normally I'm starting to get tired about 2/3 of the way through but I made it to the end with no issues. Same with What is Hip I tried the Chili's Dani California and it appears that despite having to press down further to fret each note due to the higher action, the lighter gauge presented no issues. I would say that it's marginal the benefit between my normal lowish action using heavier strings and a much higher action using very light strings. I'm wondering if 40-100 might be a better way to go as I'll be able to get the action lower and still have a relatively light set of strings. I'll keep at these strings until they start to go dead then will probably try something different. There are no 40-100 Slinkies so it gives me the opportunity to try something else - D'addario EXL190 are the obvious choice but I might go for something else. It's a shame because I really like the feel of the Slinkies. I could get individual strings but it would work out at around £35 to make up a 40, 60, 80, 100 set.
  15. That's all we need - people will think that they're being chased along the pavement by a brass band How about bagpipes? That'll get people moving out of the way quick enough
  16. I've used 45-105 strings pretty much since I started playing in 1987 with a 130 B string when I was playing a 5 string. I've occasionally used a 110 E or a set of Steve Harris flats but it's been mainly 45s I've used whether rounds or flats. After reading this thread among others I've decided to try Extra Slinkies. I like the sound I get when I dig in but whether I'm getting old or whatever, I'm finding it harder to dig in as much as I need to and am able to. I know that it'll be a full set up required but it's worth a try to see if I like them. They're going on the one bass I own that doesn't have a Hipshot Xtender as I can't imagine a 90 E being particularly good when dropped to D I just got them and am going out tonight but I'll be fitting them tomorrow so I'll see how I get on.
  17. I used these for years. They're good strings. Can't remember how long they last but I can vaguely remember a Nathan East signature set in the 90s that I used being a huge fan at the time Switched to Slinkies for years and now on D'addarios for years. Just bought a set of Extra Slinkies to try a lighter gauge and see if Slinkies are as good as i remember them Might try some Elites next time
  18. Right, no messing around. £150 is the abosolute lowest that I will go so here it is - £150 plus postage or cash/bank transfer on collection My new preamp pedal will be here in the next week and I'd feel funny about this sitting in a box not being used
  19. The pictures really don't do this bass justice. It's really stunning. Not just a beginners bass but one one you could happily gig professionally. I've had US basses that weren't built as well as this is. Heard a million times on the forum but if it was fretted it wouldn't be going anywhere . Plays like buttah etc 😀
