  1. The difficult bit for me is getting used to the light weight of it. I'm not used to having something so light. I never liked the sound of it and bought it purely for the way it balanced. A set of EMGs and a BTS system took care of that. It feels like the bass equivalent of a Skoda to me: solidly built and should be reliable but I don't feel like I need to be overly cautious when handling it. ( I have owned a few Skodas and loved having them )
  2. We need to make it obligatory when starting threads about musicians, especially of a certain age, to include in the title: ""Famous Person's Name Here" - not brown bread"
  3. I wish I hadn't seen that 🫣😅 They also have a BB2025
  4. Yamaha BB5000 active or passive Peavey TL6 Riverhead Jupiter
  5. Statii in general, especially headless ones. They're either that good or some may be holding onto them waiting for them to appreciate now that you can't get them. Many years ago after watching a video of Paul Rogers around about the release of his "Now" album, I nearly ordered a Stealth 6 string fretless after listening to Jaz Lochrie's playing. In fact I named my rock band at the time "Overloaded" after the track on the album of the same name and we played both Overloaded and Soul of Love live Come to think about it we also played Wishing Well and Louisiana Blues
  6. So it was back to plan A which was fit the EMGs into soapbar cases. The neck pickup was a tight fit length wise but the bridge one wouldn't go in at all due to the tubes (?) for the screws to go through. Luckily I was able to snap one off right at the top of the underside and still had enough room to get a screw past it to go into the body. I am very happy with the result - looks more or less original (with the exception of the extra pot hole) despite having EMGs and a BTS system EQ fitted.
  7. Well the foam didn't work. Unlike what I assume is the foam from Fender pickups above, EMG just has plain rectangles
  8. I've only ever used them once. I put Resolites on one of my '54 Warmoth P basses and snapped one of the screws despite drilling pilot holes large enough.
  9. I actually didn't think about this. I have the packaging that my EMGs came in which has dense foam with cut-outs for the pickups but I doubt that I am steady handed enough to cut it to fit in the gap.
  10. Great minds think alike 🙂 I've found two sources so far: These from the US https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/404109207020 And from the UK https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1868463728/pickup-surround-to-fit-us-or-mim-jazz?ls=s&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=bass+pickup+rings&ref=sr_gallery-1-1&sts=1&loc=1&local_signal_search=1&content_source=180517c7a15b6280b604ffb74fb2af767a0bc58d%3A1868463728&organic_search_click=1&logging_key=180517c7a15b6280b604ffb74fb2af767a0bc58d%3A1868463728
  11. I decided to change the pickups on my Cort Space 4 from the Bartolinis to EMG Jazz bass and had this great idea of making pickup surrounds to hide the gaps around the new pickups. Something simple scratchplate material. Unfortunately, this morning, I ran out of talent and made a complete dog's ear of trying to make them. I've seen them on Ebay in the USA but they seem a bit steep at the best part of £50 for a couple of bits of plastic. Does anyone know a source in the UK for these or even if one of the many talented members on here are able to make these for me? I just need simple black surrounds that I will probably just tape on to cover the 108mm x 34mm gap. I had also thought about buying soapbar sized covers for these and fitting them over the top but I dislike how large they are. I can't rest my thumb on the edge like I can with Fender or Musicman sized pickups due to the fact that the edge of the pickup is so far from the strings
  12. Hmm, that sounds interesting and long overdue considering the number of basses that use the Bart soapbar sized pickups. Looking forward to hearing them but in the meantime I'm going to try something else to see if it works.
  13. I think I have a plan to get EMGs into this bass without making any irreversible mods to the bass. I'll report back if it works later in the week
  14. Absolutely loving my new Cort Space 4 but I am really missing the sound of the active EMGs I have in my jazz bass. The EMG soapbars are too wide and I don't want to route the bass for them. likewise, the EMG J set would fit length wise but leave a big ugly hole wither side. Is there any other brand of pickup that sound like EMGs?
  15. Have you seen it?
  16. Well that was pretty straightforward. With the exception of the low E, I was able to fit the others without loosening the string at the headstock? Stumpstock? I just removed the original washer to fit them.
  17. Perfect I'll get them fitted tomorrow. 👍
  18. Thrust bearings received today. Is it obvious when you unscrew everything how to fit them?
  19. Got mine this afternoon and I think we have a winner. Sits more or less exactly where I want it to be on a strap without touching it so I'll be taking it out this weekend
  20. I've been waiting for the 4 string to come along so finally went for it last night. Ever since I lost weight, I have struggled to get any of my basses to sit right. Maybe something to do with the angle that they sat against my stomach that they don't anymore. I've tried all of the usual routes - grippy strap, Ultralites, even my own version of the double strap but it's just not comfortable and after a couple of songs I start moving the bass around for the rest of the gig and end up with a sore shoulder. Hopefully the headless bass is the answer. Having never owned a headless bass before, if I do the mod with the thrust bearings, is it simply a matter of fitting or do I need to grease them as well?
  21. I needed a battery box and output jack for my 2016 EMBB Sterling so emailed string and things It took a couple of months of very slow back and forth but eventually I received a box the size of a small suitcase ( I kid you not ) with the parts I needed. I can't remember exactly how much but it was roughly £22 delivered for both parts which seemed fairly reasonable 🤔
  22. Thomann sell Lollars but they only have the DC version as PJs https://www.thomann.co.uk/pickups_for_4_string_j_bass.html?manufacturer[]=Lollar&gk=GITABA4J&sp=solr&cme=true&filter=true Alternatively, try the UK dealers listed: https://www.lollarguitars.com/dealers-europe If they don't have them, they should be able to get them
  23. If it's an active EMG pickup then it doesn't need a ground wire to the bridge
  24. I put a full set of Hipshot Ultralites on my HB75, including an Xtender on the E. I find that the shaft diameter of the Hipshots are rarely even remotely close to being the same size as the holes in the headstock of the average bass so I usually cut a sheet of A4 lengthwise and wrap it around each tuner before feeding it through and screwing into place. The only time they have fitted properly without using this method was when I specified the diameter of the holes for my Status Jazz neck.
  25. At one point i had a 1248H and I think 1524V - a 4x12" and matching square 2x15" with diagonally mounted drivers. they were around 45kgs each. It was fun trying to lift the 1524V on top of the 1248. Actually no it wasn't but the sound was collossal. Not the best sound I've ever had but possibly the mightiest rig I've had This was the small rig with the 1248H & 4052 bright box
