Mine was a 1999 and ceramic pickup so it's a bit, but not identical, in sound to a EBMM Sterling

Combinations of kit that are a sonic match made in heaven
Delberthot replied to BillyBass's topic in Amps and Cabs
The two best combinations I ever had were: Fender Precision Special with EMGs into a Hartke LH1000, Laney Nexus 4x10" & 1x15" cabs GK 700 RB II and 2x Ashdown MAG 4x10" although I can't remember which bass as I had a revolving door of basses back then so it could have been anything from an Epiphone Goth Thunderbird with passive EMG soapbars to a defretted Yamaha TRB6 II. A couple of 12 string basses passed through my hands around that time as well -
I always thought Funky Monks was an SR5 as this is what he played in the video of the same name. My first "real bass" after watching that video was a black SR5 with rosewood fretboard

I've got a bass I use to practice at home on - a Harley Benton Jazz. Occasionally I take it to rehearsals. My gigging basses are used depending on what I fancy playing that night. No problem cutting through as one is an EBMM Sterling and the other is a Status necked Jazz with EMGs and 2 band EQ I've just put an old set of Chromes on my Jazz and that's what I'll take out next. At some point along the line I am going to stick a set of D'addario Prosteels on my Musicman Sterling and use that. From previous experience EBMM Sterlings sound terrible with flats. as in dull and lifeless, whereas Stingrays sound amazing with them. The best recorded sound I ever had was with a Riverhead Jupiter many years ago

had this many times in the past, usually when playing something fast or constant notes towards the end of the gig. Footloose and Br Brightside were usually the biggest culprits. The solution was to stop playing so hard and drink plenty of water. Avoiding caffeine and sugar also helps me

I have no idea what you're talking about...
Delberthot replied to TheGreek's topic in General Discussion
I'm pretty sure that Jon Anderson said that he just liked the sound of certain words so I don't think that many Yes songs that he wrote the lyrics for are about anything in particular -
Definitely Fender - the seafoam green on the G is different to the green you get with D'addarios - that's not to say that these weren't made by D'addario depending on how old they are

I've always loved Guns N Roses and enjoy watching Steve Adler play. I think he has a very bouncy disco feel to a lot of his playing. Especially this song:

I found this video last night and began wondering whose bass it was when I saw Nick playing it

Maybe heard about your dancing prowess and took it literally

Is that a Shergold Modulator? 🤔

Jonas Reingold plays a 4 string bass and 12 string guitar double neck in what is my favourite version of the Genesis song "Firth of Fifth" He doesn't use both necks in this tune but does elsewhere
-
Did Geddy ever use the guitar neck on his Rick 4080 or was it for show?
-
Not a bass but I've seen Rick use this live - It was a long time ago but I think that he uses it on "Surrender" which is exactly what my back would be doing if I had to hold onto this thing I'm pretty sure that he used all 5 necks as well

The Prince's Trust Concerts were always the highlight of the musical year for me in the 80s To see Phil Collins, Eric Clapton ,Nathan East, Mark Knopfler, Elton John and many others all on the same stage and often at the same time in an amazing supergroup was just so incredible. Not to mention the millions in Armani suits being worn in one place 🙂

Looks like one of them Sherwood Discombobulators to me

The need for Active Basses when using wireless systems.........
Delberthot replied to Pirellithecat's topic in Bass Guitars
I can't say that I've chosen a bass on whether it was active or not - it's usually based on how shiny it is Most basses I've played haven't had the option of chosing an active or a passive version. The last time I can remember this was the original Bass Collection basses. I had an SB405 passive and later one of the fancy ones with the gold hardware and fancy woods, I forget the model but there was paduak in there somewhere. might have been an SB465 -
Forget the bass, what's with the chicken neck style impersonation the player is doing?

What's your 'Hey, the bass player's here' lick?
Delberthot replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
usually Get Up & Jump by the Chilis or whatever I've been working on at home for my own amusement. Next gig it will probably be Too Shy by Kajagoogoo after all of the Nick Beggs love on here recently. Made me remember what a fantastic bass line it is 🙂 -
I think you answered your own question when you mentioned the last time you had been there. I dont even recall the last year I went into a music shop. With less footfall, there's going to be less buying so it probably doesn't make any financial sense to have a large area for instuments essentially gathering dust

The width of the VIntera neck wouldn't have normally bothered me, neither would the thickness of it but both together made it feel really chunky and I just couldn't get around it as quickly as I could with other basses before or since I think also I'm that used to Jazz sized necks now. My main basses since 2016 have been Musicman Sterlings and Jazzes of various descriptions.

The only neck I never got on with was the one on my Vintera Precision. It was super chunky. That and the anodised scratchplate worked better than any emery board for removing the skin off your fingers Beautiful bass though
