Loud G string and 'wah' type sound on a '51RI P-bass
Delberthot replied to Clarky's topic in Repairs and Technical
Its funny but my original Colonial Mustard '51 reissue used to have a weird phasing sound when played particularly hard. weird but weird in a good way -

Sign of the times. I always recommended IMG Stageline ones as long as you weren't a heavy handed oaf but even they seem to have gone up in price recently

Behringer or Harley Benton?! Anything cheap!
Delberthot replied to throwoff's topic in Amps and Cabs
yip. blew all 4 cones of an aluminium coned behringer 4x10" over the course of 2 gigs. More tin foil tensile strength than Hartke quality aluminium -
Your average local shop is unlikely to have anything remotely close unless your local shop is the Bass Merchant or The Gallery or somewhere like that. Not sure about the bridge angle, have you tried measuring it to see how off it is? Depending on the part is it a small enough amount that you could remove the string, loosen the screw holding the offending bridge to the body and move it slightly?

Conklin amongst others will do 7 string bass sets. You're more likely to need something like a 145 or heavier for the low F# as a standard B would be a tad floppy

I'd be more tempted to get over to Soundslive and get yourself an Ashdown Mag 4x10" combo if you can stretch to it for £472 Alternatively get yourself an Ashdown Mag 4x10" cos they're very, very good and an amp -
Kepping youir bass in a case or bag and washing your hands before playing make a big difference. For once i can claim to practice what i preach too. I now automatically (at least) rinse my hands in warm water if im going to play the bass.
Wise words. People wonder why I won't let them play my bass. Well I don't know how clean your hands are and I don't want a £30 set of strings ruined. I've always had a thing about having clean hands anyway so it ensures that my hands are always spotless before playing. Another thing I have done for years is to point a fan at my fingers during a gig. That way my fingers don't get sweaty and stick to the strings and also keeps them from depositing too much funk. I've never had to wipe my strings down because of this. The bass is the last thing to come out of its bag and the first to be put away. The smoking ban is bound to have had an effect on string life as well.

I want my bass to look as good in ten years as it does today so poly for me

[Gone] Bargain gothic thunderbird
Delberthot replied to Mr. Foxen's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I struggled to put something down here without swearing. That's an effing tragedy of a price to be selling that for. I have gigged mine extensively since I got mine almost a year ago. -

If you finish it in nitro then it will age relatively quickly, especially if you only give it a thin coat but you have to be careful when working with it -

Being asked to turn down by management
Delberthot replied to Dave Vader's topic in General Discussion
I have to agree that there are a lot of bands that play over loudly but round my way there are a couple of hotels that have sold part of their land. The developers come in, houses are built and then the hotel gets complaints from the neighbours for loud noise. There are 2 pubs in my area where we were the last band to play the venues. The first was the first time they'd had a band- - Vocal PA, I think at the time I had my Trace V-type combo so 150w at my disposal if I needed it and a guitarist without an ego which is a nice change. We were very quiet compared to bands in other venues in town but the pub still got complaints from the old dear upstairs. The second was quite a big pub so I had the same combo and a Trace 2x10". By the second song we were being asked to turn down so i disconnected the extension cab, we played quieter, the drummer played with brushes but it still wasn't quiet enough. The smoking ban has been great as far as I am concerned but it has increased volume levels outside late at night by a hell of a lot. Especially pubs in residential areas and that has been a factor in incresed complaints to pubs as well. I do have experience of overkill as well though: boxing day last year I depped for a rock band. The pub was so small that we took up about a quarter of it between 2 guitars, drums and keyboards and a 3k rig! Absolutely no need for anything like that. I struggled to hear my monitor which was right next to me pointing right up at me for the sheer volume coming from the PA -
I'm sure we've done this before but there's only one currently and that's my Riverhead Jupiter with Badass. Last seen in Sound Control Dunfermline in 1994 after I traded it and a Boss ME-6 for a Bass Collection SB305

I once went out to buy Robocop on DVD and came home with a brand new car

If you know that the dep is good then I'd keep it going. A good dep and indeed a good musician will keep their ears open and maintain eye contact at crucial parts of songs for an indication of what's happening In previous cases where we've had a dep drummer at short notice that might not know certain parts of the song, I would modify what i was playing so that the song still sounded right whereas if I hadn't then it would've sounded completely wrong

There's an option in the advanced settings under the general tab for Firefox to warn you when you are about to be redirected to another page. I've just unchecked it and the message has gone. Solved it for this but what if I visit what appears to be a legitimate site and it turns out that it redirects me to something dodgy? I'm using comodo and use hijackthis from time to time so I should be alright but there's something different about this version of the site than the old one

Nearly every time I click on a thread or subforum this message comes up with the option to either allow or click the X to get rid of it. Every time I click to allow it but it still keeps happening. Its at the top of my web page right now Any ideas how to get rid of it cos I've never had this message before
