1. There's a sucker born every minute.
2. I'd like to sound like Bernard Cribbins. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7Bvd33V9dQ
3. Sorry bout that...........I just couldn't help it.
4.
this one has the nail to add attack at around 3:50
Bass face alert! Check out face at 1.06 harrrr, harrrr.
5. I'll take that as a no then....
6. I'm always swapping necks on my Jazz and it does make a big difference to the sound. I think I prefer the warmer sound rosewood gives me but I prefer the look of maple. Catch 22
7. Can you get an effect that makes a sound like a bass guitar plugged into an amp? If you can, I recommend you get one of those.
8. Hmmmmm, I do like these basses. I have a 60s classic player Stratocaster in sonic blue which has hardly been out of it's case since I bought it in 2006 when they originally came out. Very nice guitar made with US custom shop parts assembled in Mexico (a bit like the road worns). I could be persuaded to part with it if you wanted to trade (with some cash from my side). This is a link to loads of videos about them And part 2
9. You need to find a band with some 'hungry' band members. Either hungry for money or people who love to play. Don't get bogged down by musicians who like to 'dabble' and endlessly procrastinate. I play in one band where the members play primarily for money another for the love of playing and the 3rd is full of lawyers, doctors and financial advisers and which is a band in nothing but name, as nobody has a window in their busy schedules to actually get in a room together and play. Which is very frustrating (there's also been 19 members since it was formed 5 years ago in which time we've done about 10 gigs, which tells it's own story).
10. When I fitted my preamp I initially fitted the wires the wrong way round which resulted in a weak sound from the pickups. I realised I must have done something wrong and then swopped them around and got a much stronger punchier sound. Maybe your front pickup is wired up wrongly............just a suggestion.
11. I don't have a great love of bass amps either. I only care if it sounds good. Most of them are anonymous black boxes.I've had peaveys, hartkes, marshalls, tc electronics, fenders and ashdowns but I don't care if the black box has a prestigious name on it or not and I've played through many amps from 'uncool' manufacturers which sounded great (a Laney and a line 6 LD300 comes to mind). The only amp I ever grew attached to was my Fender TV15 which was a gorgeous looking, big tweed covered, modern reworking of the original Fender Bassman. In the end it was just too heavy for me so it had to go.
12. Citizen Cope. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c08X4vGOTBQ&feature=related
13. I know a guy who has one of these...............what a sound!
14. I friend of mine was quoted £1,000 for an acoustic duo to play at her wedding - and amazingly she was prepared to pay it!!! In the end her fiance, who was having to stump up the money, put his foot down and booked a 5 piece covers band for a lot less than a grand. Having played in duos and trios it really does depend on the occasion and the venue (and how good you are). Anything from £150 to £300 would be the going rate. But if it's a wedding or a corporate event the skys the limit.
15. Although I normally don't have much time for bass solos, Taj's solo actually makes this Jeff Beck tune even better. Don't be put off by John Mayer at the beginning of this video, he doesn't stay around for long. 16. I had the TV15 which is the modern equivalent for bass. Great sound and looks but heavy, heavy, heavy. 17. I'm still waiting for my Fender custom shop pickups to be delivered after waiting almost a month. The shop has to order them from Fender and, supposedly, they are taking their time to deliver, although I suspect that cash flow problems may be the issue.
18. There's a video on youtube with a precision with wizard trads...........what a sound! Or they may be wizard thumpers bit confusing? And this is it
19. Here's some pics Neck in good condition a but there is a small nick on the G string side of the neck at the 7th fret. I'd never actually realised it was there until I took the photo. It doesn't affect playability at all.
20.
Ha ha, i dont care if thats not true its brilliant
It's true...
21. Hmmmm? I have a 57 MIJ re-issue Precision from 96-97 with a maple fretboard neck. It's very slim front to back (no baseball bat) and in good condition. Is that the kind of neck you're looking for?
22. I have a 2011 Classic 60s Jazz Bass neck, with a rosewood fingerboard, to trade for your Geddy neck if you want it. Although made in Mexico they are very high quality with access to the trussrod at the body end of the neck. The same necks are also used on the excellent Road Worn series of Jazz Basses Fender make and my neck is marked RW on the heel where it is screwed to the body. This is the Classic 60s Jazz Bass http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_guitars_detail.asp?stock=08103117215838
23. I had DR hi-beams on my P and now I have elderly rotosound roundwounds for a flatwound-ish sound but with a bit more presence. Flatwounds can sound good if you are playing through your own amp on stage but if you ever go through a PA be aware the sound engineer will more than likely EQ them like roundwounds and make them sound woolly and indistinct.
