It is very pretty but if you can play your bass with those pickup covers on you're a better man than me. I fitted a set and had to take them right back off again because I couldn't get anywhere near the strings.

I should also have added that there's no craftsmanship in making a Fender either. It's just a factory process like making kitchen units or whatever. The cost of the finished guitar is dependant on where in the world it's made. Costs are higher in California and lower in Indonesia/China/Thailand etc. Don't get me started on globalisation I'm not a big fan.

I don't want to rain on anybody's parade but £25 per performance is pretty naff. The standard pro touring rate rate is around £1,000 a week. But on the other hand............ it sure sounds like a lot of fun.

So if you had the choice of a loan ,to record an album, of a 62 P bass that sounded awful or a Squier that sounded great, most would go for the Squier. Put a Wizard thumper in a Squier bass and you'll get it sounding like a 62 P.

I played tainted love at a wedding once. I think it may have been a request by the happy couple. I got paid a lot of money to do it though.

1. MM more twangy less thump 2. 58 Very thumpy with what I would say was the perfect woody P bass sound 3. 71 Also very thumpy and P bass sounding... very nice. They are all good in their own way. But I like the vintage sound of No 2 best.

Oh well looks like it's kosher then. I'd buy it if I didn't live 600 miles away.

I've used the 300 watt Line6 combo and even though most of the settings were a waste of time it was plenty loud enough with a decent speaker fitted and I could get a decent sound out of it without too much twiddling. But if something is being discounted as much as those Line6 400 watt combos are it's probably for a good reason so I would stay well clear if I were you. I second the idea of buying 2nd hand as you get much more bang for your buck.

As I type it's sitting at £375 but I'm not sure of it's pedigree? I do know that mid to late eighties was a transition period for Fender and some of the basses were made up of parts from different years. This may be the reason it has an early eighties 'American Standard' scratch plate, a 1990 serial number and a Mex style truss rod adjuster on the headstock. Very strange but a bargain if it's the real deal.
