1. now have my barefaced midget t and compact Roqsolid covered. Good service, excellent product, reasonable price. Very happy.
  2.
Had a fun day with this today. I've programmed the FCB to output Note-On messages, triggering the MicroKorg and using the expression pedals to manipulate the sound whilst playing guitar into the M13 with my hands. Like Geddy Lee but 'sick'.
I've read that 4 times now and still dont know what it means but it sounds cool. I sometimes sneak a couple of mouthfuls of my pint during slow bits on our songs, I've often thought that's not far off Geddy's multi tasking.
  3. If Dave's got what you need make sure you come back and tell us about it. UNless it's brilliant then dont cause I will get put out my misery if I try to buy another thing.
I just looked on multi map and found that DHA are about a 90 minuite drive from my house ya learn something new every day . . . . . . . what a plomker
4. I haven't tried any of DAve's rack gear but do have a few of his pedals on my board including the VT2 valve OD. I love his stuff, the sound, the look, the whole thing, although understand it's not to everyone's taste. Given everything I have heard about the VT3 including the review on here (assume you've checked out?) I would say it is essential to try it. Dave's based in Devon; you are in Devon. SUrely you dont need anyone other than Dave to let you try a VT3 (assuming he has one)?
  5. Bought Wayne's DI. good price, easy transaction and pedal arrived as promised well packaged. Great guy to deal with. Rich
  6. Gaf mate - you and your midget t's!! Have a bump on me for passing your driving test. I bought Gaf's last midget t and never looked back. Great super light cab, perfect for most small gigs. Combined with my compact becomes immense. Gaf is obviously a top guy to do business with.
  7. Nice piece of kit. I would be interested but am looking for a one box solution at maybe a lower price. Hence my interest in the X&M, which is still theoretical anyway.
  8. To be honest the older I have got the more I have realised I have been compromising. On some things that's unavoidable and actually probably not really an issue (that's just to say I don't play alembics through gold leads). However on things like this I am not so sure compromise is acceptable for want of spending £150 on something like this. As you say we expect this in the studio so given it's cheapish why not add to your own set up?
No problem. I am actually surprised there are not more solutions like this available, this is the only one I know of in pedal format. When I worked in a studio it was pretty common practice, when a track had bass alternating between clean and distorted, to only distort a high-passed version of the bass track, leaving the low-end untouched to keep the bottom end consistent on the record. I suppose the same is achieved live by big touring acts by having a second amp engaged by a pedal for overdriven sounds, but this is a lot simpler/cheaper. There is very little point in distorting the signal under 150hz in a lot of situations IMO.
9. thanks for such a good review of a great product. I currently use a double looper without X-over or mix and while I can just about get away with loss of low end definition (using EQ), this has just shown me that I could be getting something real interesting. Given how you've done it, it's right that it's a difference in tone/sound and not just frequency. Very interested in this. THAnks again.
  10. the streamliner 900 and 600 and tonehammer 500 will be the flavour of 2011. Unfortunately cant wait until Spring 2012 till they start to appear on the "for sale" board. I need an amp now. A decent 2nd hand Markbass is a serious option given it's half the price of the new GB and aggie stuff. I cant help but think the streamliner despite its recent PR nightmare on TB is a good evolution in that SVT in a micro head market.
  11. I am not missing the chance to give John the praise he deserves. I fitted a Marcus Retro into my Fender MM Jazz and it is a revelation. Fantastic product. But beyond that I had one or two issues, not John's fault and he was patient with me (I am a moron when it comes to electronics) and sorted things out without fuss. True gentleman. Funkygreega - dont hesitate to fit the Marcus Retro into your Fender MM. I didn't have the kind of horrendous reaction that some have to the stock pre but soon as you get access to the tonal and sonic options provided by the Retro you will think you have a new boutique bass.
  12.
If it were the Ripper...which colour, black or natural? Black Natural
I would struggle to choose. I tend to go natural but that black looks really good.
  13. what a beautiful bass and they sound awesome on clips I have heard. Must resist, need new amp, must resist.
  14.
Another HUGE recommendation for these strings from me. I've used them for years with no complaints and found I prefer them to branded roto's. They seem to last longer! Wish they weren't quite so long, although they have got shorter than they were. Very classy indeed for the price, and I've used them on some VERY big stages. When I can't afford elixirs these are my next choice.
total murder wrapping my low B but amazing strings for the price.
  15. bought some cables from Shep. Very easy to deal with, immediate dispatch and all as described. Cheers, Rich
  16.
just got to jump in and mention i use a polytune for bass (4 string tuned to BEAD) i needed something that handles a low B accurately and FAST and the polytune delivers, the speed in which it can detect is the fastest in any tuner ive ever seen and that was a high priority for me. its so fast you can play a scale quite quickly and it will wizz through the notes, not seen anything else that can do this so well, Yes the poly mode is pretty useless for bass, but as a general chromatic style tuner in needle or strobe mode its by far the best on the market - its a no brainer !
no way want to be competitive - so whatever pedal does it for you then great - but the Polytune has been a revelation for me. I love its speed and accuracy for separate string tuning and I have grown to love the polytuning for quick check and tweak. Very good for low B as well.
  17.
you'd have alot more credibility if you turned the caps off
really, i can read english and so understand this perfectly well? Am I missing yet another unspoken rule? Seems perfectly credible, though photos would be nice. Good luck with the sale, whether in lower or upper case.
  18.
Old, broken and now entirely useless?
cheeky - no, big, well built and you could use it to retake the Falklands. THis pedal board is not for wimps.
  19. conversation at work the other day. Person X: "what are you doing with all the money you're saving on your mortgage with the low interest rates? I am still paying it in to pay it off 2 years early" Person Y: "I am building up some shares, and my brother's buying silver" Me: "I've blown it all on bass gear, takeaways for me and the wife and toys for the kids" Persons X & Y: " " My advice to you, buy it. As Clarky says, you only live once.
  20. did a deal for one of Phil's own personal cabs. Top guy. Very straighforward; speedy, safe delivery of cab etc. 100% confidence.

    Too much fuzz?
I'm a big fan of the DHA stuff. You can have simple (VT1) or with added EQ (VT1 EQ) or have two channels, one more subtle and one filthy (VT2EQ) You can also swap valves for different tones. The DI is pretty good too. I don't think there's a battery option though, so you'll need to lug a mains adaptor around with you, and the look is quite marmite.
My VT2EQ doesn't quite get me "fuzz". I'd like to try the Fuzzy Feeling.
  22.
Hey folks, Just thought I'd share with you a little info/review of my current rig as it's been a bit of a quest to get to this point! First off, some background info on myself: I'm a pro bass player who has moved to Melbourne from Glasgow 4 months ago and have been gradually getting more and more involved in the scene here, which is awesome! I had to sell my rig back home to fund my travels, which was an Aguilar DB750 and an Epifani UL410, which was tough but worth it! I purchased both the Genz Benz Shuttle 6 and the Eden 112XLT from the Ozbass forum (like basschat but not as active) and recently added a brand new Eden EX112 courtesy of the guys at Bass Centre, Melbourne. Coming from an all valve beast I was sceptical about this small and lightweight setup, but I have been thouroughly impressed so far. I've used it on a coupla gigs and a reh so far and it's filled each room with ease. You don't get the 'wall of thunder' you get with a massive head and a power hungry 410, but it's not far away. I run the head pretty much flat with the exception of the 'smiley face' eq curve button depressed and do any tonal adjustments from the bass. Having recently restrung courtesy of Naked Strings the bottom end is thick and strong, while I find myself have to attenuate the highs but turning down the tweeter on the XLT. I can recommend this rig for people who have issues with space and money but still need a high powered, flexible and toneworthy rig. here are some pics, if you're interested I will try and do some recording for you guys to hear the capabilities. Cheers! Craig
Hi from rainy Scotland! Very nice looking rig - would be really interested in hearing how it sounds. Cheers, Rich
  23.
Having a record out is no indicator of quality. If these guys are so hot, why are they spending their time at open mic nights? If I may say so, and I do so with absolute respect, your self talk is atrocious You are talking yourself into believing everyone else is wonderfully talented and you are s***. If your singer songwriter friend is as good as you say he is, why would he work with you if you couldn't cut it? You need to trust that he knows what he wants from you and that, as he doesn't kick you into touch, you must be delivering at at least an acceptable level. Give yourself a break. Its not paranoia; its low self esteem. Trust me; they are MANY guys out there that can't play for toffee who are making a living at it. Don't keep beating yourself up.
listen to the wise man cause it's good advice. All I'll add in terms of looking like a dick, other than completely going over the top (acting like an actual dick) the way to come over worst is to be worrying about how others see you - people can smell fear and self-consciousness a mile off (wee bit of nerves, no problem).. Take the advice about equipment if you need it but then just be confident in your material. if they are decent musicians (and not dicks) they will appreciate original tunes; they wont be worried about your combo or anything else.
