Another HUGE recommendation for these strings from me. I've used them for years with no complaints and found I prefer them to branded roto's. They seem to last longer! Wish they weren't quite so long, although they have got shorter than they were. Very classy indeed for the price, and I've used them on some VERY big stages. When I can't afford elixirs these are my next choice.
total murder wrapping my low B but amazing strings for the price.
just got to jump in and mention i use a polytune for bass (4 string tuned to BEAD) i needed something that handles a low B accurately and FAST and the polytune delivers, the speed in which it can detect is the fastest in any tuner ive ever seen and that was a high priority for me. its so fast you can play a scale quite quickly and it will wizz through the notes, not seen anything else that can do this so well, Yes the poly mode is pretty useless for bass, but as a general chromatic style tuner in needle or strobe mode its by far the best on the market - its a no brainer !
no way want to be competitive - so whatever pedal does it for you then great - but the Polytune has been a revelation for me. I love its speed and accuracy for separate string tuning and I have grown to love the polytuning for quick check and tweak. Very good for low B as well.
you'd have alot more credibility if you turned the caps off
really, i can read english and so understand this perfectly well? Am I missing yet another unspoken rule? Seems perfectly credible, though photos would be nice. Good luck with the sale, whether in lower or upper case.

conversation at work the other day. Person X: "what are you doing with all the money you're saving on your mortgage with the low interest rates? I am still paying it in to pay it off 2 years early" Person Y: "I am building up some shares, and my brother's buying silver" Me: "I've blown it all on bass gear, takeaways for me and the wife and toys for the kids" Persons X & Y: " " My advice to you, buy it. As Clarky says, you only live once.
I'm a big fan of the DHA stuff. You can have simple (VT1) or with added EQ (VT1 EQ) or have two channels, one more subtle and one filthy (VT2EQ) You can also swap valves for different tones. The DI is pretty good too. I don't think there's a battery option though, so you'll need to lug a mains adaptor around with you, and the look is quite marmite.
My VT2EQ doesn't quite get me "fuzz". I'd like to try the Fuzzy Feeling.
Hey folks, Just thought I'd share with you a little info/review of my current rig as it's been a bit of a quest to get to this point! First off, some background info on myself: I'm a pro bass player who has moved to Melbourne from Glasgow 4 months ago and have been gradually getting more and more involved in the scene here, which is awesome! I had to sell my rig back home to fund my travels, which was an Aguilar DB750 and an Epifani UL410, which was tough but worth it! I purchased both the Genz Benz Shuttle 6 and the Eden 112XLT from the Ozbass forum (like basschat but not as active) and recently added a brand new Eden EX112 courtesy of the guys at Bass Centre, Melbourne. Coming from an all valve beast I was sceptical about this small and lightweight setup, but I have been thouroughly impressed so far. I've used it on a coupla gigs and a reh so far and it's filled each room with ease. You don't get the 'wall of thunder' you get with a massive head and a power hungry 410, but it's not far away. I run the head pretty much flat with the exception of the 'smiley face' eq curve button depressed and do any tonal adjustments from the bass. Having recently restrung courtesy of Naked Strings the bottom end is thick and strong, while I find myself have to attenuate the highs but turning down the tweeter on the XLT. I can recommend this rig for people who have issues with space and money but still need a high powered, flexible and toneworthy rig. here are some pics, if you're interested I will try and do some recording for you guys to hear the capabilities. Cheers! Craig
Hi from rainy Scotland! Very nice looking rig - would be really interested in hearing how it sounds. Cheers, Rich
Having a record out is no indicator of quality. If these guys are so hot, why are they spending their time at open mic nights? If I may say so, and I do so with absolute respect, your self talk is atrocious You are talking yourself into believing everyone else is wonderfully talented and you are s***. If your singer songwriter friend is as good as you say he is, why would he work with you if you couldn't cut it? You need to trust that he knows what he wants from you and that, as he doesn't kick you into touch, you must be delivering at at least an acceptable level. Give yourself a break. Its not paranoia; its low self esteem. Trust me; they are MANY guys out there that can't play for toffee who are making a living at it. Don't keep beating yourself up.
listen to the wise man cause it's good advice. All I'll add in terms of looking like a dick, other than completely going over the top (acting like an actual dick) the way to come over worst is to be worrying about how others see you - people can smell fear and self-consciousness a mile off (wee bit of nerves, no problem).. Take the advice about equipment if you need it but then just be confident in your material. if they are decent musicians (and not dicks) they will appreciate original tunes; they wont be worried about your combo or anything else.
DHA makes great valve overdrive pedals that give a VERY authentic 60s / 70s sound...
+1 There are lots of options out there but Dave's valve ODs are real nice. I have the VT2 twin which gives me the flexibility I need with just a bit of grit on channel 1 and then full-on drive on channel 2, great control with EQ for both channels etc. Pricey but good. THere are simpler and cheaper DHA options.
Great work gp ,i just had a go at it but cant get it fast enough but will keep trying. keep posting the vids i and from what i can see many others enjoy watching them
gee whizz reading through this thread, that's 45 mins I'll never get back. Grey parrot - well done mate, too much chat on this site sometimes and not enough action ( I know it's basschat and not bass action). Too many guys with a ready critcial opinion with no balls to get their playing up for all to see. Keep your vids coming, rough, smooth, whatever. P.S. not accusing anyone on this particular thread of lacking balls - I am sure every single poster on this thread has balls the size of grapefruits.

Evening. This is the beginning of a pedal board odyssey for me. Basically taken a few pedals I've had, bought a couple off here and constructing something that I plan to play about with and evolve for a new project. Got the biggest board I could find cheap and off I went. Initial set up: Bass>polytune>micro-thumpinator>modded Bassballs>DHA VT1 comp>WOBO double looper (1)> [fuzz/OD] DHA VT2 Twin; (2)> [modulation etc] MXR bass octave deluxe> Fromel modded Boss CE2B>Fromel modded BF2B;WOBO>Amp So I am going for a double loop set up - one loop fuzz/distortion/OD and the other octave and modulation effects. The VT2 (along with the VT1) was basically my only pedal in use in last band; now I need a more 80s, new wave vibe so added in my old chorus etc. Not sure the VT2 works in this set up - I may want to explore other fuzz etc options. i really like the WOBO esp with the INV function allowing me to reverse whatever state it's in. Anyway, lots of swapping round to try out. More space available and so looking at new options and appreciating all the insight I get on here to help me.

wow, great it turned out OK. I benefit the whole time from cowboy couriers delivering to any number of neighbours on my street without the required explicit agreement to do so. I wouldn't want a £1200 bass left with them but it's pretty convenient when it comes to the usual strings, pedals etc. I need to think twice about this practice. Enjoy your beautiful bass.

for some reason each page of Basschat is repeated so that when you go to the bottom of the page, the page starts again from the top and repeats. THis isn't happening with any other website. Just me or some other issue with the site?

yet more superlative service. Questions posed, questions answered. Products delivered in what seemed like hours rather than days. I am not looking anywhere else for my cables. Rich

Totally agree with those recommending starting with the best pure (passive) tone possible then making an assessment of what dimensions you want to (de)emphasise. I don't have a massively sophisticated "ear" so I started with bass tones equivalent to "robust new world red" in the wine tasting world. For me those tones were "jazz growl", "Warwick growl" and "precision punch" (or whatever). I get the precision tone pretty much straight off but prefer active so got some EMGs with built in preamp wired to original circuit. On the Warwick, the stock 3 band active preamp does all I need. The Jazz was a bit different cause I wanted more flexibility and control esp over mids so I looked for a replacement preamp with what I needed and went with reputation and experience (John East). If I didn't have to use so many different amps etc in so many different rooms I might have preferred to depend on outboard and amp eq. Don't quite understand the desire always to upgrade preamps pretty much whatever. I have played some cheap basses with decent basic tone that needed nothing changed and some £1000+ basses that were ruined by unnecessary electronics.
