On the surface, that seems reasonable. But what about when you're not performing? Are you okay with having to either crouch to the floor to make changes, or put the unit on a hands-friendly raised surface where you can no longer use the footswitches/expression controllers? Wouldn't it be better to be able to program the floor-mounted controller while it's... I don't know... on the floor? Anyway, I don't want to drag this off topic. I'm going to be interested to see how the Anagram UI holds up to real-world user feedback.

Yeah, after watching a couple of YouTube reviews, it seems like there are some real UX compromises in order to keep to a small form factor. Or maybe it's simply been under-designed. I was so amazed at the "trying to paint the hallway through the letterbox" touchscreen that the knobs being above the screen didn't even register with me. On a related note, why are all multiFX param controls knobs that can only be operated by hands? Why hasn't someone come up with one that uses rollers that can be operated with the feet?
  3. Love that Olive top! Such an overlooked wood. Welcome to the "ACG 33-inch singlecut with an R-Type lower horn" Club! 🙂 EDIT: Oh hang on, you already have NINE ACGs?! You're probably already in the club, then. Hell, you may even be the president 😄
  4. Many, many bass manufacturers give no thought to their instruments' user interface, and sadly Dingwall are no exception. Congratulations on solving a problem that Dingwall couldn't be arsed to solve for themselves 👍🙂
  5. I may have slightly mocked the name early in the thread, but I ended up buying a Soloking Meteora-style guitar from Andertons last year, and it's a brilliant guitar for the money. I was extremely surprised/impressed by what I got for £250 [iirc]. £150 for one of those basses is just mental. Alder body, stainless steel frets, rosewood fretboard... what a ridiculous bargain. Go grab!!
  6. There are also the Yamaha YH-WL500 wireless headphones, that are specifically targeted for musicians, and have latency on a par with the Waza Airs. I use them for monitoring my non-critical DAW/hardware synth jams, and they're more than up to the task.
  7. Wow, that looks positively Soviet-era 😲 I remember when I was researching for my own Maruszczyk build, it became apparent from other owners' testimonies that carbon rods were an unspoken must-have. So would this explain why Maru truss rods work in the opposite direction to most other truss rods? Is that a symptom of the shonky ghetto nature of their truss rods?
  8. That's a brilliant idea! Do this!
  9. When I bought my custom Elwood three years ago, I ended up having to pay import duty some months afterwards. I didn't have to pay to 'release' the bass from customs or anything; it was shipped to me by PP once ready. The duty came afterwards in the shape of an invoice from DHL, if I remember rightly - 150 quid or so [I wonder if Adrian declared a lower than accurate value... 🤔]
  10. I guess I'm seeing something different to you guys. All I'm seeing is something that's Cort quality* - including the clearly misnomered premium** gig bag - for TWICE the price. Or, for the same price, you could get an actual MTD Kingston. Oh, hang on, wait: 3 free months of lessons in the Gibson App? Fair enough, then 😛 * Not that I'm being disparaging about Cort quality; quite the opposite! It's just that they don't slap £1.5k-2k price tags on their instruments. ** IMO, if a gig bag doesn't have a proper padded handle, it's not premium. End of.
  11. Nerdiest bass: any 'coffee table' single-cut bass*. Ultranerd points for when you reel off all the exotic woods involved. 'Cos you sure as hell ain't buying one for the cool rock 'n' roll looks * for the record, I have one**. ** Wenge, Walnut and Flamed Maple.
  12. Yes, it's possible - Alan fitted my ACG Salace with a P-Retro and a battery box. It's a great preamp.
  13. Heh - no, true... because they're aware of the fragility of egos. Or if they aren't, they soon would be made aware Maybe it's because I come from the indie/rock/alternative side of the tracks, but I've interpreted a 'band' as an artistic collaboration between all members [in variable proportions, obviously/famously]. And maybe I'm being presumptuous, but it's this collaborative definition that, I think, is what OP/Beato/Richard Osman et al have all been all been implying when they refer to a 'band'. Beck wasn't a band. CMat isn't a band. Idles ARE a band. At least, that's how I'm interpreting it. Just don't ask me what The Fall were
  14. True, but then you're not a band member, you're a hired hand.
  15. I think that's fair and a level-headed approach. The elephant in the room, as alluded to by the OP, is that bands as we maybe knew them are either dead or hibernating, and us bassists... well, we're supporting band members. With a few remarkable outre exceptions, we kinda need a band. (As much as I'd love the idea of solo bass guitar becoming 'culturally ascendent'! :D)
  16. I'd never thought of it as gravid, but now it's obvious and I'll never be able to unsee it
  17. From the late Chris Cross' collection auction? I was tempted myself, it's an iconic bass - I thought the all grey look was cool AF. Congratulations! Of course, the pressure is now on to also acquire Midge's Ibanez
  18. That's the fella! Right, time for this old dog to learn a new trick. Thank you
  19. Here is just one of the many brilliant tracks from the greatest computer game soundtrack of all time. Yes: in retrospect, I found out it's a Thunderthumbs Johnson homage. But my question is: How is he doing that triplet/rapid-fire staccato percussive thing from approx 2:50 ? ['he' being Arion Salazar from Third Eye Blind, it turns out!]
  20. Well, that was worth the wait 😍 What a sensational* collection you have there, @ziggydolphinboy ! * you won't believe the inner conflict that had to happen in order to stop me from saying "Sei-nsational" or "Sen-sei-tional". Ah, goddammit!
  21. Yeah, I'd say it was a Vantage that has seen enthusiastic sanding. The hexagonal-ish tuners line up, as do the controls on the bloaty body: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8XFw90ns-Y
  22. That would have been me, Ruarl - I was wondering if it would turn up in this thread. This was literally my dream bass - as in the one I first coveted in my copy of Guitarist as a teenager in a small Welsh village in the early 90s. So to have eventually managed to own it many years later was just mind-blowing. I'm really pleased you've still got it and loving it - it still looks a beauty! I can't remember if I ever fitted new strings on it, though, so I'm dodging that one [I think I was in my DR Fat Beams chapter at that point, for what it's worth!] For those that asked about the body shape comparison: I also had a six-string Flamboyant headless fretless [edit: see following image] and of the two shapes, I felt this Original was better ergonomically. Though the Flamboyant arguably looked even cooler/meaner! Also, these two proved beyond any doubt that headless is the way to go if you want to go down the 6-string path. The complete absence of neck dive was an epiphany EDIT: Ah, here you go:
  23. No, sorry, I didn't realise it was a manual. I just assumed it was one human's flight of peril-based fantasy based on pulp sci-fi
  24. "... it will still not be able to physically stop all humans from reaching the power switches".
