If you're worried about having your OCD nerve twanged, then for gawd's sake don't look up at the pointy end. The angle between the nut and stem of the "R" - and the fact that they've chosen to position the slab-serifed "R" so that it looks more like a "B" - will be playing that OCD nerve like a Ranjo string. Anyway, I didn't buy mine for the album cover similarities or the parallelism of the racing stripes, I've bought it because it's a Dingwall with an ebony board and an unusual cranberry finish 😜 And the trading card, obv. [Edit: I should point out that JT was my first bass hero, Duran posters adorned all available bedroom wall space. So that's the non-material reason for getting one. I honestly don't care about the RN preamp, mind. ]

Schecter omen elite 5 string £300.00 - *SOLD*

Perhaps worth keeping in mind that they're probably kinda running TWO websites in parallel right now. And it's NAMM week, so I guess that may have some impact too. Let's not lose sight of the fact that BD are more of a two-man operation than a Tho-mann operation [waits for applause].

And possibly the macassar ebony fretboard? Because otherwise, yeah: not much difference. Though newer Combustions are coming without a pickguard, I notice. So maybe that'll be a further differentiation going forward. EDIT: Oh, hang on: different body wood too. So it's all adding up, bit by bit.

The next "big thing" in bass development?
simisker replied to Ghosts Over Japan's topic in Bass Guitars
I dunno. I'm sceptical. I think they may have rushed it to market. -
Blimey, that really didn't take long! Ah, they could be, yeah; I just skim-read. I shall reposition my yawns to be Schrodinger's Yawns for now, then. It does look like it, yes. Pau Ferro, perhaps? To be honest, I'm glad - considering the black hardware, ebony makes for a much more cohesive and therefore pleasant experience, imo. I thought the redness of the fingerboard clashed with the Cranberry Pearl (TM). Aye, these are "Combustion" class MiChi/SiCan Dingwalls. Which I'm very happy about, as a fully Canadian JT Signature would be out of my budget. And yeah: 20Hz IS low! That can't be right... unless it's got a Q the width of the Thames, so it's almost like a shelf. In my experience Neve EQ has always been more about broad brush-strokes, rather than scalpel precision. Hmm... 🤔

6 of the 10 reserved already, as of an hour ago Better get your skates on if you want a piece of this hotter-than-the-video-for-Girls-On-Film Cranberry Pearl action. Also, I've seen screenshots on Talkbass that suggest the black/white/seafoam finishes will maintain the stripes and therefore not be quite so bland. So I retract my earlier yawns

I contacted BD earlier, and yeah... make that "at least two of them are spoken for"

So the interesting and distinctive colour will be only available to a few lucky pre-purchAND THEY'RE GONE. Great. Yawn. Antique yawn. Le yawn du jour. No doubt there'll also be a tobacco sunburst finish later down the line, just to completely razz me off.

Melbourne Instruments NINA - synth with motorised knobs
simisker replied to Quatschmacher's topic in Other Instruments
Oh, great... I just about clear off my credit card debt, and then I watch this. They've even made it look like a prop from the TV show Severance. Peak Want. EDIT: Even more so, now I've learned that these rotaries use magnetic magic, not electrical servos or what have you. 😍 -
Could a Hipshot Kickass bridge have been specced originally? They have a 5-hole mounting.

Oh man, don't get me started on Maru/Mensinger naming

Love that It's odd, but having now spent the last 2-3 years looking at Maruszczyks [including having one made], I think they are at their most handsome in "plain old" Ash with a trans finish. I don't know whether it's because they have access to particularly nicely grained Ash, or that it's bookmatched or what... but I prefer the look of them over their more exotic-faced burls etc. Particularly when it comes to their F-style models.

Good lord - the chatoyance of that shedua! 😲😍 Absolutely gorgeous; a grail bass if ever there was one. Makes me pine for my old one. Congratulations!

Did he not suggest a set of Oz's custom pickups [like the ones he uses in the JJB sig]? I would have thought Oz would wind them to your spec/requirements. (And if you've been to the workshop, you'll know that supply/delivery wouldn't be a problem )

NBD - Shocking stuff from PMT, pre dinged and missing backplate

I'm pretty sure "wrong time of the month" was a droll reference to the retailer's name . -
Trying to build an entire mature ecommerce system using a glorified brochure site builder? Let's give it a positive spin and call it 'brave'.

Lots of prep, but worth every second spent on it. Absolutely gorgeous 😍 I've got a Bass VI project in the pipeline that will be having a similar refin job soon. Not nitro, though - I don't have the patience Seeing this is confirmation that it's going to be well worth doing.

Home studio monitors & practice speakers
simisker replied to Salt on your Bass?'s topic in Recording
As an owner of some IN-5s, I can't see how any other monitor in that price bracket comes anywhere close. In fact, I was about to sing their praises based on the mistaken memory that I paid about £800 for a pair. To discover that I must have paid only £560 - going by Thomann's current prices - just makes them even more of a steal. They can be extended with a Kali subwoofer too, if required. They're a bit bulky, mind, so check desk space first. -
Maurszczyk Paddock 5a truss rod snapped!
simisker replied to radcliff43123's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yes, it is mentioned. I don't think it's mentioned strenuously enough, of course. "Who reads the manual for a BASS?!" etc. Also, used ones don't always come with all the paperwork. I wonder if the reversed truss rod has its roots in Eastern European traditional instrument making? I can't think of much else it could be for it to be a consistent feature of Maruszczyks. -
As an owner of an MK1-equipped Cort 5er that came with a proper Bartolini NTMB-F preamp, I'd suggest trying the MK1s with a preamp upgrade first. They're not as "cheap made in China copy" as you may be led to believe If new pickups are definitely going to happen no matter what, then I'd consider Delano SBC 5 HE/S Drivers or Times Squares: https://www.delano.de/pickup_overview/sbc_5/sbc_5_listing.html Not only are they top class drop-in replacements that are string-spacing agnostic, but their German origin means you'll probably be able to get your hands on them much more quickly than most US pickups in the current supply climate.

I received mine yesterday. It's insane, the quality that £180 gets you. Other than needing a setup [and decent strings], all the fundamentals are pretty solid. Nice straight satin neck, no sharp frets Which is quite handy, as I bought it to see if it's a good platform for serious modification. And yeah, I'd say it definitely is. It's not light - certainly not basswood, if my memories of a Precision Lyte in the 90s are anything to go by - but other than that, I couldn't be happier. Let the modding begin! 😁
