  1. Yup, I know - that was the point I was trying to make. Doesn't that make these Status prices all the more reasonable, then? They're handmade in low volumes by a legendary maker in an expensive manufacturing location. For only a few hundred quid more than a Combustion. Seems reasonable to me, anyway Maybe my idea of good value has being skewed ever since my appointment as a lawyer-dentist
  2. Take away the £600 markup for the LEDs*, and you're in the Dingwall Combustion ballpark. That's another CNC+assembly wood bass... and that somehow gets away without sticker shock outrage. The new Status VMan Signature is £2675 inc VAT. The Dingwall John Taylor Signature was/is £2500 inc VAT. I don't think we're talking outrageous opportunistic price gouging here. Personally, I'm glad that Rob is well enough to be making basses again, and that the door has reopened for me to own a Status that I'd want [headed, phenolic board, awesome colour]. * Admittedly, there's more of an argument about the £600 cost of LEDs. Seems very steep... but I don't know what that entails. Maybe he has to send them to Sims and absorb their markup. [EDIT: Sims LED fitting prices start at £500ish, according to their site. So that would explain that!]
  3. An update: I'd be wary of ordering from Banzai Music. It turns out that they're one of those companies who will happily give the impression of having items in stock, with "Delivery in 4-5 days" in order to seal the deal and get your money. Only when pushed will they admit that they're waiting on their supplier, apologise profusely etc. I've been waiting a month thus far; the only timescale I've been given was "hopefully in the coming days", which was over 2 weeks ago. Thankfully I'm not in a rush for them, but still: not particularly impressed with Banzai
  4. [EDIT: putting my response in my original thread is neater. Go read if you're thinking of getting those 4/6mm knobs quickly from Banzai Music ]
  5. Their filtering is very last-gen at the moment, yeah As well as dedicated landing pages for brands, they could do with using a faceted search instead [e.g. John Lewis]. But these are all things that can be added as the platform matures
  6. Yay - finally Well, yeah - it's better than the old one. But I think we all know how low that bar was. If you're reading this, BassDirect guys: it's probably a good idea to change your login URL from the default Wordpress one
  7. I need gold ones, but yeah, here they are too: https://www.banzaimusic.com/gotoh-dome-knob-cc-gold.html These look perfect - cheers, Nige While I'm waiting for them to be delivered, I'm going to book myself in on a Google refresher course [ 2024 Edit: Looks like Banzai have changed the description/spec of these to 6/8mm since I ordered them ]
  8. No, I've got a bass with a Noll preamp which has these 4mm/6mm Warwick knobs. They're good quality, but externally chunky, so when you have 4 of them on a Jazz control plate it doesn't leave much room for fingers. To improve the user experience for fat-fingered me, I was hoping that I'd be able to find some narrower replacements - like the John East ones on my ACGs, for example. But all I can find are ones that use the 6mm/8mm 'standard' inner measurements.
  9. Does anyone know of any aftermarket stacked/concentric knobs which could be used to replace some Warwick/Framus/MEC knobs? To fit 4mm upper / 6mm lower pots. That's not standard, apparently. EDIT for latecomers: they also need to be gold and metal.
  10. The WL-T transmitter has 2 standby modes: Motion Sensing and Signal Sensing. Maybe it's in Motion Sensing mode and you're not moving around enough to tickle the motion sensor? You can change it in the absolute awesome and definitely not stinky poo app. Whoever put a motion sensor on a device targeted at bassists was... let's say 'optimistic'
  11. Judging by this thread, I'd say it was a Tony Revell bass. edit: further evidence here - https://www.soundaffects.com/acoustic-guitars-c96/tony-revell-1997-blues-legend-in-natural-pre-owned-p18237
  12. I'm guessing they don't read to the end of a sentence where you come from. Also, the post you responded to was April 15. If you're going to be humourlessly pedantic about it, as a minimum you need to be accurate. See page 27 of the Pedants' Handbook (3rd Edition, paragraph 11, second sentence). *offers spectacles as peace offering to Physics Daddy 🤓*
  13. Apparently, responding to a ten year old post... a decade old post... a post that is a TENTH OF A CENTURY old... with "they rushed it" is too dry for some 😜 Anyway, joke time over. Physics guys are here now. Serious business.
  14. If you're worried about having your OCD nerve twanged, then for gawd's sake don't look up at the pointy end. The angle between the nut and stem of the "R" - and the fact that they've chosen to position the slab-serifed "R" so that it looks more like a "B" - will be playing that OCD nerve like a Ranjo string. Anyway, I didn't buy mine for the album cover similarities or the parallelism of the racing stripes, I've bought it because it's a Dingwall with an ebony board and an unusual cranberry finish 😜 And the trading card, obv. [Edit: I should point out that JT was my first bass hero, Duran posters adorned all available bedroom wall space. So that's the non-material reason for getting one. I honestly don't care about the RN preamp, mind. ]
  15. Oh come on, people, this was a steal even at the original asking price! Look at those red knob marker dots for attention to detail 😈 If I didn't already have the Cort equivalent*, I'd have snapped this up long ago. Hope you find a buyer soon. Man, this market...
  16. Perhaps worth keeping in mind that they're probably kinda running TWO websites in parallel right now. And it's NAMM week, so I guess that may have some impact too. Let's not lose sight of the fact that BD are more of a two-man operation than a Tho-mann operation [waits for applause].
  17. And possibly the macassar ebony fretboard? Because otherwise, yeah: not much difference. Though newer Combustions are coming without a pickguard, I notice. So maybe that'll be a further differentiation going forward. EDIT: Oh, hang on: different body wood too. So it's all adding up, bit by bit.
  18. I dunno. I'm sceptical. I think they may have rushed it to market.
  19. Blimey, that really didn't take long! Ah, they could be, yeah; I just skim-read. I shall reposition my yawns to be Schrodinger's Yawns for now, then. It does look like it, yes. Pau Ferro, perhaps? To be honest, I'm glad - considering the black hardware, ebony makes for a much more cohesive and therefore pleasant experience, imo. I thought the redness of the fingerboard clashed with the Cranberry Pearl (TM). Aye, these are "Combustion" class MiChi/SiCan Dingwalls. Which I'm very happy about, as a fully Canadian JT Signature would be out of my budget. And yeah: 20Hz IS low! That can't be right... unless it's got a Q the width of the Thames, so it's almost like a shelf. In my experience Neve EQ has always been more about broad brush-strokes, rather than scalpel precision. Hmm... 🤔
  20. 6 of the 10 reserved already, as of an hour ago Better get your skates on if you want a piece of this hotter-than-the-video-for-Girls-On-Film Cranberry Pearl action. Also, I've seen screenshots on Talkbass that suggest the black/white/seafoam finishes will maintain the stripes and therefore not be quite so bland. So I retract my earlier yawns
  21. I contacted BD earlier, and yeah... make that "at least two of them are spoken for"
  22. So the interesting and distinctive colour will be only available to a few lucky pre-purchAND THEY'RE GONE. Great. Yawn. Antique yawn. Le yawn du jour. No doubt there'll also be a tobacco sunburst finish later down the line, just to completely razz me off.
  23. Oh, great... I just about clear off my credit card debt, and then I watch this. They've even made it look like a prop from the TV show Severance. Peak Want. EDIT: Even more so, now I've learned that these rotaries use magnetic magic, not electrical servos or what have you. 😍
  24. Could a Hipshot Kickass bridge have been specced originally? They have a 5-hole mounting.
  25. Oh man, don't get me started on Maru/Mensinger naming
