  1. I know a singer who is the quintessential "ageing rocker" - long, thinning grey hair, beads, denim etc, zero people skills, terrible singer, yet he is always getting gigs and always puts on a good show. I only realised how bad he was when I heard him without seeing him.

Help me good people.[/quote] Looks like you're already answering your own question - you fully intend to leave the door open, so keep the gear. In the grand scheme of things the money you'll make on the rig will not exactly kick off a pension fund but on the other hand, when you need to find the money for new gear that will be really hard.

If you're not lloking for a quick sale, I'd stick £1200 on it and look for offers (although not from Skylark ). Good luck with the sale, excellent basses, yet another bump.

I worked for a while for the company that released teh DVD's and did the TV sales for this series - they had to go for really populist stuff to make the TV sales and to make the money work, hence stuff like the Nightfly, where the main appeal was to us muso types, and probably out gigging when the series airs, didn't get a look in.
  5. Chris Rea regularly uses an Italia guitar - not because he was given one - he played one in a shop, loved it and bought and recorded/toured with it . Also, Trev Wilkinson was involved with them - despite his involvement with the Vintage firewood brand (must make some very good money from that deal) he certainly knows a thing or two about guitars/basses.

Plastic skin as a last resort. Need to re-apply during breaks but helped me out once.

  11. With Shuker's reputation, and a really nice looking BB 1500 on sale here for £450 (nothing to do with me BTW), how about selling the fretless and buying the fretted - you may even make a few quid!

  13. PRS are now allied to MCPS - PRS do the live stuff, MCPS the mechanical copyright. BMI will collect for you but via MCPS. You could also investigate the European agencies - it really depends where the music is going to sell - they all end up working together, so it is probably easiest to go with the UK company. The rates may vary slightly but not enough to make a huge difference unless you are selling vast amounts! Also, if you do have a deal, it may be worth talking to publishers, especially some of the better indies, who actually work the music for you to ad agencies, film companies etc. Publishing deals are a lot better than the used to be.
  14. The combo should be fine - I play mine through a Yamaha BBT head and 110 cab - sounds good to me! I'm still using the stock strings and am happy with them for plucking - haven't tried using a bow for over 30 years so couldn't comment on that aspect. Pretty sure they would be set up for jazz/pop/acoustic rather than classical anyway. Hope you enjoy it when it arrives. Mike

  16. Wow, that was so good! Decent little music pub in a village just outside Guildford, great bunch of players, just basically winged a whole load of rock & roll and blues - audience loved us, some amazing comments, and we've been booked again for better money!
  17. I'm sure most of you know what it is like - work for ages on one thing then someone leaves or the whole band implodes. Well that's been the score for me for at least 18 months since the covers band I was in went all wobbly! Got a stand in pub gig tomorrow night, little place, miles away, terrible money, won't even know what the set is until we all get there, but I'm soooooo happy. Time to try out the funky little Alucab I swapped with Thornybank ages ago in anticipation of the gigs happening a little sooner! Might stick a pick in my pocket in case the fingers aren't as tough as they used to be!

  19. Anthony at Maccaris on Denmark St - old established shop - was on Charing X Rd for years, seems a decent bloke, well into his vintage amps. Also on Denmark St, Wunjo - they like unusual stuff, and have dealt with them a couple of times - good prices and no hassle. Alternatively, the guys in the Guitarist office in Bath may be able to help?

Cheers Chris[/quote] As the Rev says, this is for the magnetic neck pick-up - I guess it is cheaper to use one set of electronics and just have the spare socket. Might be worth giving Aria a call - Gareth, James or Martin all really nice guys, if there is something available they'll be able to tell you.
  21. A new band has done it for me - just loving learning a whole bunch of stuff - even the root/fifth country stuff Oh, and the VMJ fretless that I NEEDED for a couple of songs helps too!
  22. Like that a lot - not only great use of technology but also highly musical IMHO. I also like the way he has juxtaposed all the hi-tech wizzardry with a really nicely mojo'ed bass.
