1. Just sold Stuart some strings, great comms, exceptionally quick payment, great person to do business with - thanks Stuart. Mike
2. Just imported Easy Star All-Stars and Pink Floyd into I-tunes and am listening to Dark Side of the Moon v Dub Side of the Moon back to back - 'fraid to say it's 1-0 up to the All-Stars
3. A Dressing of Luthiers (but then again some of them refer to it as stoning which wouldn't work)!
4.
Fender "close enough" does'nt have the same ring to it.
Surely that'll be the Close Enough for Jazz?
5.
I checked these out - there's a (not very good) clip on youtube of someone demonstrating one. And there's one for sale on ebay (or there was t'other day anyway). I'd be very interested if I could afford one in addition to buying something more conventional, but for now I'm only in a position to get one instrument. And I'm a bit put off by the thought of not being able to play it standing up! But I'd love to try one, so if anyone knows of one in the Leeds/North Yorkshire area I'd love to know... Thanks.
Shame the clip is no good - one of the loudest basses acoustically, and, although I never heard it in a gig setting, the pickup sounded fine in the shop. Is it worth trying Hobgoblin in Leeds?
6.
Texas Twister - Little Feat (a couple of AWFUL edits) We Hold On - Rush (an apalling edit) Both quite rotten, but I think Texas Twister was a limitiation of the technology available at the time. Rush have no exuse for theirs, though...!
If you are including edits, Stereophonics/Jools Holland - the single version of Handbags and Gladrags where they edit the brass part to only play once, feels like the rest of the record is tripping up on itself.
7. I've had these left over from when I had my guitar shop - been using them up slowly but have discovered I prefer nickel over stainless steel and also have been playing mainly EUB for the last 9 months. So, they're not factory fresh but they are still in very good condition, all boxed, looking to sell in one go for £24 posted or individually at £7 posted. Thanks, Mike
8.
Although theoretically true........ ok, I'll just stop right there
Yes, sorry, should have put theoretically somewhere in my post - I know it doen't happen with me on my EUB
9. Surely a player has the capability of being more precise on a fretless instrument as they are not impeded by the tempered tuning of a fretted instrument?
10. Have a look here and click on the some examples - this outlaws exactly what your seller is asking you to do. Report them! http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/feed...-extortion.html
11. Nice - quite a different vibe from what I'm more used to - The Bottle, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised etc, almost got a (and I use this term respectfully) pop leaning to it. Thanks for posting.
12. You should never be asked for feedback until you have received the goods - this should set your alarm bells ringing - check all the safety/fraud stuff on ebay and get an e mail off to them a.s.a.p. Did you use Paypal?
13. Wild outsider, but what about an Ozark Resonator Bass - had one when I had my shop - everyone loved it as it was so unusual. It had a lipstick pickup and was very bright and metallic. Full brass body so very heavy - you wouldn't (possibly couldn't) play it standing up!!
14. Just drove home and Trevor Nelson on Radio Two played this: followed by this: Always loved that period of Crusaders on their own, with Randy Crawford, BB King etc, but this sounded particularly nice tonight. The Esther Phillips version of this Gil Scott Heron track is a new one on me - a very funky discovery. Must try and catch Mr Nelson more often.
15. Welcome to the forum I think the tone/quality thing comes with age and wealth - which is why I've only half caught it Plenty of people on here to share your obsession with. Have fun, Mike
16. I love Gibson's TV Yellow but I don't think anyone's ever done a bass in it.
17. Love my Cort GB75 - terrific build quality, only moan is the over-complicated (for a luddite like me) active electronics. +1 on everything Doddy says - your Yamaha is a good bass and a set up may well be the answer (unless you have succumbed to GAS of course)
18. Getting you to pay PRS is very naughty. They pay an annual fee based on the size of their venue. Every act that plays there will then fill out a PRS form - most will claim all the songs they played are their own but that's another issue. PRS will then work out percentages of the venues licence fee to pay the writers. This will all depend on how many acts perform and how many songs they do so the venue doesn't really know how much your individual performance is worth. Not sure about the VAT, could be legit, having owned a VAT registered company there are some very complicated rules out there.
19.
Wunjo appear to have an Ox bass - a strange Fender neck/Charvel body Precision (second one down). Not sure if he ever played it though.
Thought they could've spelt Entwistle
20.
I agree with the above sentiments entirely ... Is there? or will this be some sort of "Pimp my bass?" thread.
Careful, I may have upset someone with such a suggestion...... 21.
There is one drummer in Suffolk who is legendary amongst other drummers for his technical skills
Who be that, boy? (in my best Ipswich accent)! I saw a drummer working with a device called the Beat Bug - it registered his snare beats and let him know if he was wandering. The guy was scarily accurate. Would strongly reccomend them to anyone who is fanatical about time keeping.
22. My friend's shop has a Squier 5 string P Bass in - new but probably been around for a while. As per a previous post, the neck looks enormous! If you are interested though, drop me a PM and I'll put you in touch. It's about an hour and a half from Southampton to here. Mike
23. Looks like soemone left their Danelectro in the "Pimp My Ride" studio
24. Just corrected a very silly error on the weight - may have put some people off - messed up imperial and metric - I put it down to age - the bass weighs 4.4Kg not 9 as previously stated.
