I think really with bass necks you don't want one that is so thin you can see it's ribs but also at the same time not so fat that you start getting folds and orange peel skin. Thanks to great purchases from Chris (Beedster) and Mike (Zephead) and a couple of hours of perseverance, I am now the owner of a lovely sounding rig. A relatively lightweight (well I have to lift a far heavier mower in and out of the car on a daily basis for my work) Peavey Classic 120 watt valve power amp, and a Digitech PB8 valve preamp/multi-effects, going through my Purple Chilli 1x12. The perseverance was due to my very luddite leanings, I really wanted knobs to twiddle, but eventually got a nice sound out of the parametric eq on the Digitech. The sound is very full and rich but also exceptionally articulate - can really hear the bass being played (which means I'm going to have to brush up on my technique)! Seriously though, the definition and character of the notes is quite an ear opener. Looking forward to hearing it in a band setting and also getting adventurous enough to try a few more settings!

Just bought Mike's Digitech BP8. Easy transaction, fabulous packaging (must have shares in the bubblewrap company)!!

Just bought a Peavey valve power amp from Chris - lovely piece of kit (and the Peavey's not bad either) Seriously though, great guy to deal with.

Not 100% sure they fit the label but my favourite in that funky/soulful jazzy style was Working Week.

Band I'm in is adding the Jerry Garcia version of Dylan's "Señor" to our repertoire. I'm used to being a full on driving rhythm player and this is all odd little runs and fills. Looking forward to the challenge. Will post a YouTube link to the track when I'm not on iPhone (Luddite hasn't worked that bit out yet)!

So, now I'm nicely established in my current band I've decided to go retro (well, I'm retro already - just thought the gear should catch up)!! so have just just relieved Beedster of his Peavy Classic Valve Power amp and Zephead of his Digitech PB8 valve pre-amp/multieffect. Looking forward to putting this together with my Purple Chilli and hoping for a lovely vintage vibe! P Bass build to follow very shortly!

People may well be contributing without us realising it - don't forget, we need people to read the posts - the stats show a lot more people get involved this way than by actually posting. Not everyone feels comfortable putting their views out there, and some may feel intimidated by some of the responses - I asked once for some help with a song, just couldn't hear the changes properly and said so in the post. First response "listen to the record"! Yeah, thanks!! Fortunately faith was soon restored by a perfect notation by ChrisB. It is a shame that those that use the site but don't post are not seen as participating and therefore remain newbies for years!

Got to be without, although the one with isn't as bad as I was expecting on such a strong (and lovely) top.
